Yoga Lakshmi Narasimha Suprabatham

Yoga Lakshmi Narasimha Suprabatham

By
Saint Doddacharya of SholaVandan

Translated by
P.R.Ramachander

(This Suprabatham is addressed to Lord Narasimha of Gadikachala , which is in Sholavandan of Tamil Nadu. After the killing Hiranya Kasipu , Lord couldnt contain his anger and there are several stories as to how his anger was controlled. Later to make Prahaladahappy, Yoga Narasimhar gave his seva for 1 Gadika in yogic pose. Because of this, the temple of Yoga Narasimha is also called as "Gadikachalam.". Goddess Lakshmi and Bhoodevi are with him./ Lord Anjaneya again in a yogic pose has a sepearate temple in an adjoining hill again in the yogic pose. This prayer is composed by Saint Doddacharya(believed to be an incarnation of Narasimha) who lived in Sholavandan. A detailed write up of the temple is given in http://kannansevel.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html
The stotra in sanskrit alphabets(Deva Nagari) is available in http://prapatti.com/slokas/sanskrit/yogalakshmiinarasimhasuprabhaatam.pdf )
This holy place (Divyadesam) has legendary association with Ramayana. When Lord Rama was preparing to end his avatara, he asked Anjaneyar (Hanuman) who was beside him, to reside at Sholingur and protect the seven rishis who were doing a penance. Hanuman slayed two demons who were trying to disrupt the sages. The sages (rishis) were praying to gain a glimpse of Lord Narasimhar, who appeared before them within a Katigai (24 minutes). Also sage Vishwamtirar earned his title Brahmarishi upon praying at this site for a Katigai. The Lord also gave salvation to Prahlada in this location. The belief is that praying at the temple for a Katigai would relieve a human being from the cycle of rebirth

Varadaraja Panchakam

Varadaraja Panchakam
By
Saint Doddacharya

(These five verses are also known as Deva Raja Panchakam. They were composed by Doddacharya of Sholingur who was not able to attend the annual festival oF Kanchi on the day when the Lord is carried on The Garuda Vahanam. It seems he sung these five great verses and the Lord appeared before him. In remembrance of this great event, every year during the annual festival The Lord Varada of Kanchi riding on Garuda during this procession is hidden for a minute by the great Umbrellas (Known as Doddacharya Sevai) and then the Aarthi performed. The very devotional commentary on this great prayer is available in
http://www.ahobilavalli.org/sri_varadaraja_panchakam.pdf )

1.Prathyushe Varada prasanna vadhana prapthabhi mukhyaan janaan,
Aabadha anjali masthakani vimalan aabaalam aanandayan.
Mandhod dayitha chamaro mani maya swetha thapthrassanai ,
Anthar gopura mavirasa Bhagawan aaroda paksha Easwara.

In the very early morning , Varada who is very pleased will arrive at the inner gate,
Riding on Garuda , where the important people would assemble saluting him,
Holding their clasped hands above their head, making the pure as well as ,
The ones, without any support very happy and then along with the fans ,
The white umbrellas decorated by pearls would move slowly hither and thither.

2.Mukthadha pithra yugalopaya chamarantha,
Vidhyothamana vinadha thanayadhi aaroodam,
Bhaktha abhaya pradha karambhujam ambujaksham,
Nithyam namani Varadam Ramaneeya vesham.

I daily salute the Varada with a pretty mien,
Who with great luster rides on the back of the son of Vinatha(Garuda),
Flanked on either side by two fans made of deer tail and
White umbrellas decorated by pearls,
Along with his lotus like eyes and his lotus like hands
Providing blessing to all his devotes.

3.Yad veda mouli gana vedhya mavedhya manyai,
Yad Brahma Rudra Sura Nayaka mouli vandhyam,
Thath Padmanabha pada Padma yugmam manushyai,
SEvyam bhavadbhirithi darsa yatheeva tharkshya

That lotus like feet of the God who has a lotus flower on his belly,
Whose greatness can only be described by the head of the Vedas,
And is not known to the other people who have mastered learning,
Which is saluted by Brahma, Rudra , Indra and others,
And which are being held by Lord Garuda,
Are only fit to be worshiped by human beings.

4.Kechit Thathwa visodane pasupathou paaramya mahu pare,
Vyajahu kamalasane naya vidho apya anye harou sadharam,
Ithyevam chala chethasaam thanu bratham Padaravindhamm hare,
Thath sandarsayatheeva samparthi nrunaam sruthinaam nidhi.

Many people after examining the Vedas wrongly conclude that Shiva is the greatest,
And some others by their new methods conclude that Lord Brahma is the greatest,
And these people with wavering mind are not considering the lotus feet of Hari,
Which is the treasure of Vedas which has been found by the learned Men.

5.Prathya gopura sammukhe dinamukhe paksheendra samvahitham,
Nrutha chamara korakam nirupama cchathra dwayi bhasuram,
SAnandam dwija mandalam vidadhatham sannaha chihwaravai,
Kantham punya krutho bhajanthi varadam Kanchyaam thritheeyothsave.

Those blessed people only can worship on the third day of festival of Kanchi, The great Varada,
In front of the temple towers at the break of morn , when he is carried by the king of birds,
Along with the two fans which seem to be dancing and along with two unmatched shining umbrellas,
And along with the prayers sung as a prelude by the groups of elated Brahmins who are blessed with knowledge.

Translated by

(Here is yet another prayer to be chanted by the childless couple, It is addrssed to Sashti devi, who was the wife of Lord Subramanya called Devayani (Deva Sena) . She accoring to legend is the daughter of Lord Vishnu but brought up by Devendra as his foster daughter.Sashti devi is a Hindu folk goddess,(six headed) the benefactor and protector of children. She is also the deity of vegetation and reproduction and is believed to bestow children and assist during childbirth. She is often pictured as a motherly figure, riding a cat and nursing one or more infants. She is symbolically represented in a variety of forms, including an earthenware pitcher, a banyan tree or part of it or a red stone beneath such a tree. The worship of Sashti is prescribed to be done on the sixth day of each lunar month of the Hindu calendar as well as on the sixth day after a child's birth. Barren women desiring to conceive and mothers seeking to ensure the protection of their children will worship Sashti and request her blessings and aid. She is especially venerated in eastern India. Mayureswara Stotram

Mayureswara Stotram
(From Ganesa Puranam)

Translated by
P.R.Ramachander

(I am reproducing below an excellent write up on Mayureswara form of Ganesa from
https://theemerald.wordpress.com/2011/01/31/mayureshwar-1st-of-the-21-swayambu-ganesha-series/
Mayureswara is the first incarnation of Ganesha, as per the Ganesha Puran. Ganeshas incarnation was during Treta yuga. He was born to Shiva and Parvati. He had six arms and is sweta varna (white complexion). He incarnated for the purpose of killing the demon called Sindhu.
Story behind Mayureshwara
During Treta yuga, there was a king named Chakrapani living in Gandali Nagari of Mithila kingdom. His wife was Queen Ugra, she was a mahapativrata. The couple was blessed with all happiness except that they had no children. Both, the king and the queen started a penance asking Surya devata ( Lord Sun) to fulfill there wishes . With the blessing of Surya, Ugra conceived. The embryo was so bright and powerful, that she could not bear the brilliance of it so she released the embryo in the sea. From that embryo, a brilliant child was born. Samudra devata (Lord of Sea) disguised himself as a Brahmin, reached Chakrapanis court and gave the child back to him. As the child was born in the sea the king named him `Sindhu.
Days passed and Sindhu grew up, his teacher Shukracharya, directed him to worship Lord Surya inorder to become powerful. Accordingly, Sindu for two thousand years continuously meditated on Lord Surya, who finally was pleased with him and in return Sindhu asked for immortality. Lord Surya, gave Sindu Amrita and told him thus
Oh Sindu! take this Amrita. This will remain in your stomach (near navel). As long as this nectar is present in your body , you will not die.
Sindhu after drinking Amrita became more powerful. King Chakrapani realised that his son Sindhu became intelligent and powerful because of the boon and gave him the kingdom. The new ambitious king, Sindhu started on a universal quest. With his incomparable valiant he won many battles against Indra, Vishnu and other Gods. After winning the war, Sindhu imprisoned all the devas at Gandaki Nagari. Now King Sindhu turned towards Lord Shiva, and attacked Kailash.
The imprisioned devas started praying to Lord Ganesha. The gods and sages started worshipping Ganesha by performing the Yagna(worshipping with the fire). From the fumes of the yagnya a peacock emerged out with Omkar Ganesha. Ganesha was delighted and said
I will be born again. I, the son of Parvarti will kill Sindhu . During Krita Yuga everyone will know me as `Vinayaka, while in Treta yuga you will see me as Mayureshwara, in Dwapar yuga I will be called as Gajanana and in Kalyug I will be named as Dhumraketu. * (All the 4 avataras of Ganesha as per Ganesha Puran)
Lord Shiva and Parvati left Kailash and moved to Meru Parvat. Goddess Parvati commenced a 12 yearpenance of Lord Ganesha with Ek Akshar Mantra `OM . In the end she received a boon that Lord Ganesha will take a rebirth as her son on Bhadrapad Shuddha Chaturthi. Parvati made an idol of Lord Ganesha using the turmeric of her body and it turned into a live child. Shiva and Parvati named their son as Ganesh.
Days passed. Lord Ganesha was ten years old, Shiva & Parvati fed up of Sindus harassment decided to move from Meru Parvat, the demon Kamalasur came in their way. Lord Ganesha challenged Kamalasur and killed him. Now Lord Ganesha attacked Sindus Gandaki Nagar. Lord Ganesha killed Sindus two sons. A defeated Sindhu ran away from the battlefield. Sindhus father advised him to surrender to Lord Ganesha, but he denied and continued the battle.
Lord Ganesha attacked him with parashu(hatcher) and removed the nectar from the naval and killed Sindhu. Lord Ganesha was riding on the peacock during the battle , so he was named as `Mayureshwara or `Moreshwar. After Brahma requested Lord Ganesha to live in Morgaon forever for his devotees. Lord Ganesha accepted their request. Brahma prepared an idol of sand, clay and precious stones and installed at Morgaon on Bhadrapada Shuddha Chaturthi.
Lord Ganesha told them whoever lives and prays over here wont fear for any obstacle or danger. Lord Mayureshwara is very powerful, potent and awaked god. If you wish something holy at Morgaon then that wish will definitely become true. This is the belief of devotees of Lord Ganesha and they experience it. )

This octet praising Lord Kumara as taught by my teacher,
If read by the wise one daily would lead to destruction of all sins,
And in the end will grant salvation at the lotus feet of the six faced one,
And so please read always this and drink the nectar of the names of Subramanya.

Ganesa Sthavam

Ganesa Sthavam
(From Ganesa Puranam)

Translated by
P.R.Ramachander

( I could not find in the web this complete stotra , though I found several references to the first three stanzas of this great prayer addressed to Ganesa. In many places it is mentioned that the first three stanzas are to be recited during the pooja on Sankata Hara Chathuthi. Some people call it Ganesa sthavam and yet others as Ganesa stotram. In the Malayam stotra book called “Bruhath stotra rathnakaram “ published by R.S.Vadhyar and sons , Kalpathi, Palghat , it is referred to as Ganesa Bhujanga stotram. But since it is not in bhujanga meter and the real Ganesa Bhujangam written by Adhi Sankara is different , I presume the title is wrong. In some references authorship of adhi Sankara is ascribed to the first three stanzas but reference to his complete works shows that it is not composed by Adhi Sankara)

1.Ajam nirvikalpam nirakaramekam,
Nirathanga madvaitha mananda poornam,
Param nirgunam nirvisesham nireeham,
