  Because  it was  taught  by Sri Bheshma to  king Dharma  Puthra  when he requested  and because Adhi sankara   wrote a  commentary  on it

1 God  Guruvayurappa  is the only    god of Gods

2.He is the destination   where   all of us have to reach

3.Praying to  Him is equivalent   to worshipping him.

4.Chanting  Vishnu Sahasranama with devotion is   the greatest   Dharma

5,To do worship we   require   several materials .Chanting Vishnu   Sahasranama  is a combination of prayer    as well as worship.

It says 

Aeshame sarva dharmanam dharmadhika tamo matha,

Yad bhaktyo pundarikaksham Stuvyr-archanayr-nara sada, 13

Chanting the praises,
Worshipping and singing,
With devotion great,
Of the lotus eyed one ,
Who is partial to the Vedas,
Who is the only one , who knows the dharma,
Who increases the fame ,
Of those who live in this world,
Who is the master of the universe,
Who is the truth among all those who has life,
And who decides the life of all living,
Is the dharma that is great.

6.By chanting  Vishnu Sahasranama   we will get all we want in earth and later  we  will get salvation.

A,When Bheeshma    was teaching  Vishnu Sahasranama  to Yudishtra  , Lord Krishna   himself was    with them.

b.Veda Vyasa   has told that  after  finishing   Bhagawatha  Sapthaha, Vishnu  Sahasranama   should be chanted  (Padma  purana   62/63 slokas  in 6^th chapter), It says that  all deficiencies  in the Sapthaha would be reoved   by chanting  and there  is nothing   greater   than that  .

c.Adhi Sankara   has told that  the chanting of Vishnu Sahasranama  is the  greatest  dharma   and none of the   verses of Phala  Sruthi   are exaggerations.

d.Even when people do Yagna(fire sacrifice) , they   chant Vishnu Sahasranama   before ending it.

e.Adhi SAnkara   saya  that those   who surrender   to the  Saguna Brahma would be able to realize God   by chanting  Vishnu SAhasranama.

f. The 6^th sloka  of Phala sruthi   of the sahasra nama says

Yasa Prapnodhi vipulam yadi pradanya meva cha

Achalam sriyamapnodhi  sryaprapnothyanuttama, 6

Will get fame without fail ,
Will be first in what he does,
Will get riches that last,
Would attain salvation from these bonds,

g.The 8^th sloka says

Rogartho muchayade rogat , Bhaddo muchyathe Bandanath,

Bhayan muchyathe Bheedasthu, muchyadepanna apada, 8

And he who is ill will get cured,
He who is bound will be free,
He who is afraid , will get rid of fear,
He who is in danger , will be saf

If he chants it  632 times.

h.Durganyadarthyasu purusha purushottamam,

Stuvan nama sahasrena nityam bhakthi samanvid, 9

He who chants these holy thousand names,
With devotion to Purushottama,
Will cross the miseries ,
That cannot be crossed
Without fail. If you chant   it 538 times

i.Dharmarthi Prapnuyad Dharmam, Artharthi Cha Arthamapnuyad,

Kamanvapnuyad Kami, PrajarthiChapnuyad Praja, 4

He who seeks Dharma,
He who seeks wealth,
He who seeks pleasures,
He who seeks children,
Will all without fail,
Get what they want.

If we chant   it 782 times
