What does  “Swami  Saranam”  indicate?

I normally used to translate “ Swami  Saranam “  to denote  “I surrender  to you god”.Today  in a malayalam write up I saw  this great verse  indicating    the meaning  of “Swami  Saranam”.I have given it in english     and translated it too.  At the end  the sloka says  , this cry   would induce  humility  in you. I felt sad    that   I did not know   this till now.-  “Swami  Saranam”

''സ്വാ'' കാരോച്ചാര മാത്രേണ

സ്വാകാരം ദീപ്യതേ മുഖേ

മകാരാന്ത ശിവം പ്രോക്തം

ഇകാരം ശക്തി രൂപ്യതേ

''ശം'' ബീജം ശത്രുസംഹാരം

രേഷം ജ്ഞാനാഗ്നനി വാചകം

ണകാരം സിദ്ധിതം ശാന്തം

മുദ്രാ വിനയ സാധനം.

“Swa”  karo uchara   maathrena,

Swakaram  dheepyathe   mukhe,

Makarantha   Shivam  proktham,

Yi kaaram    sakthi    roopyathe,

“Sam” bheejam  sathru    samharam,

Resham  jnanagni   vachakam,

Na  kaaram  sidhitham  saantham

Mudhraa   vinaya  saadhanam

As soon as   you say  “swa” of “Swami  Saranam”

Your face  lightens   up with self   awareness,

The  letter  “ma”   indicates   Lord Shiva,

The  letter”e” of Swami  gives  the form  of  Goddess,

The  letter  “sa” of Saranam, destroys  all your enemies

The letter “ra”  indicates  fire of knowledge  burning  all ignorance,

The letter “na”   makes   you get  peace,

And this seal of god  brings  humility  in you
