எள்ளுப்பூ மூக்கு எழிற்குவளையம் பூக்கண்கள்
இயல்பான அழகு வடிவம்
இனிய முகம் தாமரை இருசெவிகள் செந்தாழை
இறைவிநிறம் நல்ல பவளம்

 

Ellu poo mookku  , yezhir kuvalayam poo  kankal

Iyalpana azhaku  vadivam

Iniya  mukam  thamarai, iru chevikal chenthazhai

Iraivi  niram  nalla pavalam

 

Nose like flower of gingelly, eyes like pretty flowers of water lily

Natural  form of beauty

Sweet face  like  lotus, two ears like   red pandanus

The  colour  of the goddess  is like coral

கள்ளிருக்கும் ரோஜாப்பூக் கன்னங்கள் அல்லியில்
கடைந்ததோர் இரண்டு கால்கள்
கைகளும் விரல்களும் கனகாம்பரம் மல்லி
கற்பகப் பூவில் தோள்கள்

 

Kallirukkum  rojapoo  kannanmkal, alliyil

Kadainthathor irandu  kalkal

Kaikalumviralkalum  , kanakambaram , malli

Karpaka  poovil  tholkal

 

The cheeks like rose flowers with alchohol,

The two feet  are churned out of  lily flowers

The hands and fingers are  like skin ,

Of flowers like Kanakambaram, jasmine and Karpakam

புள்ளிருக்கும் வேளூர் பூவையுன்அங்கமெல்லாம்
பூக்களாய் மலர்ந்திருக்க
பூவுடல் கொண்டவுனை வர்ணித்துப் பாமாலை
பூமாலையோடு தந்தேன்

 

Pullirukku   velur  poovai  un  angamellam

Pookalai malarnthirukka

Poovudal konda  unai  varnithu  paamalai

Oh lady of Vaitheeswaran koil, all  your limbs,

Are  like fully open flowers

Describing you who has  a flowery  body, I  came

With   garland of poems as well  as  garland of flowers

பால் கேட்டு அழுததோர் பிள்ளைக்குச் சீர்காழிப்
படித்துறையில் பால் கொடுத்தாய்
பச்சை வெற்றிலைதுப்பிக் கவிகாள மேகத்தைப்
பாட்டரசன் ஆக்கி வைத்தாய்

 

Pal kettu   azhuthathor  pillaikku  Cheerkazhi

Padi thurayil   pal  koduthai

Pachai  vatrilai  thuppi  kavi kala  mekathai

Pattarasan  aakki vaithai

 

To a child   which cried  for milk in Cheerkazhi

You gave  milk in the bathing  ghats

By spitting green betal leaf, you made poet kala Megham

The   king of  all poets

வேல்கேட்ட பிள்ளைக்குச் செந்தூரில் சமர்செய்ய
விருப்பமுடன் வேல் கொடுத்தாய்
விளையாடும் ஏழரைச் சனியோடு கிரகங்கள்
விலகிடும் வழி அமைத்தாய்

Viruppamudan vel koduthai

Vilayaadum ezharai saniyodu grahangal

Vilagidum  vazhi amaithai

 

To the boy who asked for  vel in thiruchendur  to fight the war

You gave  the vel  with desire

To the seven and half year Saturn which plays

You made the way for  tor other planets   to move away

நூல்கேட்ட ஞானத்தில் நூறுகவி பாடுமெனை
நோக்கி நீ எது கொடுத்தாய்
நொடிப்பொழுதில் என்வாழ்வில் படிப்படியாய் துயரங்கள்
கிழைவதற்கு ஏன் விடுத்தாய்

Sing  hundred poems and gave him  hint word

In a second  why did you allow sorrows  ,

To  grow  step by step  in my life

தலைமகளுன் சந்நிதியில் கலைமகளின் அருளாலே
தமிழ் பாடி வரங்கள் பெற்றார்

Because  you give  when one  asks to give

Withoout hearing  the wailing of a baby  in front of you

Should you close  your ears and stand there

Are you not the goddess , who pardons,

Small mistakes and shower your blessings

ஆயகலை அத்தனையும் அறிந்தவனை நோய்நொடிகள்
அணுகவிடல் முறையாகுமோ
அரியதொரு செல்வத்தை உரியமகன் ஏற்காமல்
அனுதினமும் வாட லாமோ?

Anuka  vidal murayaakumaa

Ariyathoru chelvathai , uriya makan  yerkkamal

Anu dhinamum   vaadalaamo?

 

Is is not  proper to allow  the approach of diseases and sufferings

To the one who knows   all the arts   there is?

Shuld the propoer  son not accept  the rare  wealth

And daily   suffer   and fade?

Matharasi  unnamulai   azhaku shivakami

Mangai meenakshi  pothri?

 

She who grants  necklaces  to ladies   and jobs to the kings

With joy, Oh queen  I praise you

Oh queen among ladies unnamulai goddess  , oh pretty  shivakami

Oh maid meenakshi  I praise you

பொங்கி வரும் துயரத்தைப் பொடியாக்க வரும் அன்ன
பூரணி கல்யாணி போற்றி
யோகமுடன் வாழ்வுதரும் பூங்கொடியாம் விசாலாட்சி
புனித உமாதேவி போற்றி

 

Pongi varum thuyarathai  podiyaakka  varum   anna

Poorani  , Kalyani  pothri

Yogamudan  vaazhvu tharum poonkodiyaam  visalakshi

Punitha  umadevi  Pothri

 

Oh  Goddess annapurni who comes  to powder  my ebbing sorrows

Oh  Kalayani  , I praise  you

Oh flowering climber  like  Goddess  Visalakshi who grants  life with luck

Oh Holy  Goddess  Uma Devi  , I praise  you

All auspiciousness  to our house

Oh Thayal Nayaki who is in Vaitheeswaran koil

The Uma who makes   us see  prosperity

மலைபோன்ற செல்வத்தை குவித்து வைத்திருந்து நான்
மற்றவர்க்கு உதவ வேண்டும்
மழலையின் குணத்தோடு முதுமையிலும் இளமையாய்
மகிழ்வோடு வாழ வேண்டும்.

I should  heap my mountain like    wealth
And    I should   help  others

I should live happily   with character  of a baby

In my old age    and youth

கவிபாடும் எனதுகுரல் கேட்டவுடன் தெய்வமெலாம்

In all stages  filled  with arts  , wearing  a garland

I should  get  honour

When all gods hear  my voice  reciting  poems

They should  appear  before me  and bless me

நிலையான புகழ்தந்து உற்றாரும் மற்றாரும்
நேசிக்கும் உறவு வேண்டும்.
நீ எனது துணையாகி நான் செல்லும் பாதைக்கு
நேர் வழிகள் காட்டவேண்டும்

Nesikkum  uravu   vendum

Nee yenakku thunayaaki , naan chellum  pathaikku

Ner vazhikal   Kaatta  vendum

 

BY giving  me constant  fame , relatives and friends

Should have a loving  relation with me

By becoming my companion, you should show  me,

The direct path  to the roads I go

வளையாடும் கரத்தழகி பகை வென்று எந்நாளும்
மறுக்காமல் காக்க வருவாய் - அம்மா

Oh pretty one  with  pretty hands  with jingling bangles, after winning  my enemeies,

Without saying “no” , come to protect me             , oh mother

சிறுவயதில் உன்பெருமை தெரிந்திருந்தால் உன்னைச்
சேவித்து மகிழ்ந்தி ருப்பேன்!
தெரியாமல் செய்த பிழை அத்தனையும் மன்னிக்கத்
தேடி வந்த ழுதிருப்பேன்!

Had I known your greatness   at very young age

I would   have served you and lived  happily

To pardon  all  the mistakes  done without knowledge

போகத்தை அளந்தி ருந்தேன்!

திருநாளில் உன் பெருமை தெரிந்ததும் தொடர்ந்துநான்
செவ்வாயில் விரதம் வைத்தேன்!
தித்திக்கும் அருள்தன்னை சித்திக்க வரம்வேண்டி
சிங்காரப் பாட்டி சைத்தேன்!

Knowing well your gretness  on   holy  days

I kept  the penance on  tuesdaty

Asking for a boon for  geiing  your sweet grace

I sang   a very  pretty song

After pardoning me for mistakes in the ebbing youth

Oh Lady please come to protect me , oh mother

Oh Thayyal Nayagi   who lives in Vaitheeswaran koil

Who is Uma  who will make you see prosperity

திருக்கழுக் குன்றத்தில் கழுகுக்கும் மதியத்தில்
தினந்தோறும் சோறு உண்டு!
திருநாளாம் பொங்கலில் நந்தியெனும் மாட்டுக்கும்
தித்திக்கும் பொங்கல் உண்டு!

 

Thiru  kazhu  kundrathil  kazhukukkum  mathiyathil

Dhinam thorum   choru   undu

Thiru naalaam   pongalil  nandhiyennum   maattukkum

THittikkum  pongal undu

 

At noon even for the hawks  , there  is  ,

Boiled    rice in Thirukazhu kundram

On the  festival day of Pongal For the  bull called Nandi

There is pongal which is sweet

வருஷத்தில் ஒருநாளில் வடையோடு அன்னத்தை
வைரவரும் காண்ப துண்டு!
வளர்கின்ற புற்றுக்குள் ஒளிகின்ற பாம்புக்கும்
வார்க்கின்ற பாலு முண்டு!

 

Varushathil  oru naalil vadayodu  annathai

Vairavarum  kanpathundu

Valarkindra  puthrukkul  olikindra pambukkum

Vaarkkira  paalum undu

 

In the year once Lord Vairava would see  boiled  rice,

Along with vadai

To the snake which hides  in the growing ant hill

There is milk that  is poured

அர்ச்சித்து வழிபட்டு அன்னையே உனையெண்ணும்
அடியேனுக் கென்ன உண்டு!
அன்று தினம் அளந்தபடி என்றைக்கும் நடந்திடவே
அருள்புரிய வேண்டும் அம்மா!

 

Archithu  vazhipattu  annaye   unai yennum 

Adiyenukku   yenna undu

Andru  dhinam  alanthapadi yendraikkum  nadanthidave

Arul puriya  vendum  Amma

 

To me  who worships  and does  service  and thinks about  you

What is there  oh mother

That day what  is measured and fixed for me, please be kind,

And shower your grace  so that it happens always

மரம் வைத்த நீதானே தண்ணீரும் விடவேண்டும்
மறந்திடல் முறையாகுமோ - அம்மா
வைத்தீஸ்வரன் கோவில் வளர் தையல் நாயகியே!

7.Maram  vaitha  nee thaane  thannerum   vida  vendum

Maranthidal  murayaagumo Amma?

Vaitheeswaran  kovil  valar Thayyal   Nayakiye

Valam kana  vaikkum  Umaye

 

You who have planted  the tree should pour water  for it,

When needed, Is it proper  to forget this mother

Oh THayyal nayaki who is in  Vaitheeswaran koil

Oh Uma  makes one see prosperity

கழுதையெனும் பிறவியை எடுத்தாலோ நிச்சயம்
கழுத்திலே பொதி யிருக்கும்!
காளைமாடாகவே பிறந்திடின் நிச்சயம்
கழனியில் கால் இருக்கும்!

Kazhuthai yenum piraviyai  yeduthaalo , nischayam

Kazhuthile  pothi irukkum

Kalai  maadakave  piranthidin  nischayam

Kazhaniyil  Kaal   irukkum

 

If you take   the birth of a donkey, then definitely,

There  will  be burden on your neck

If you are  born as bull, definitely

Your legs will stand in crop  field

பழுதான பிறவியாம் நாயாகப் பிறந்தாலோ
பகலிரவு விழிக்க வேண்டும்!
பறவையாய்ப் பிறந்தாலும் மரங்களின் உச்சியில்
பதியங்கள் போட வேண்டும்!

 

Pazhuthana  piraviyaam  Naayaaka  piranthalo

Pakal iravu   vizhikka  vendum

Paravayai  piranthalum , marangalin uchiyil

Pathiyangal   poda   vendum

 

If you take birth as the spoiled  birth as  dog

You should be awake   day   and night

If you are born as a bird, on the tip of the  trees

You should put eggs for growth

அழுதாலும் தொழுதாலும் அன்னையே உனையன்றி
யாரெனக்கு தவுவார்கள்?
ஆறறிவு கொண்டதோர் மனிதனாய் என்னை நீ
அகிலத்தில் படைத்த பின்னால்

 

Azhuthaalum thozhuthaalum  annaye  unnayandri

Yaarenakku  udhavuvarkal

Aaaru arivu  kondathor manithanai yennai neee

Akhilail  padaitha pinnal

 

Even if  I   cry or salute  , oh mother ,

Who will help me?

After you    created me  as a human being,

With six separate  senses

வழிகாட்ட மறுப்பதும் நியாயமா? என் விழியில்
வடிந்து நீர் ஓடலாமா? - அம்மா
வைத்தீஸ்வரன் கோவில் வளர் தையல் நாயகியே
வளம் காண வைக்கும் உமையே. 8

 

8.Vazhi kaattta  maruppathum  nyayamaa? Yen viziyil

Vadinthu neer odalaamaa? Amma

Is it just to refuse   to show the way?.Should water  ,

Flow from my eyes? Oh mother

Oh THayyal Nayaki who is from Vaitheesaran koil

Oh Uma, who  shows  us prosperity

புல்லாகிப் பூடாகிப் புழுவாகி இருந்தாலோ
புலம்பியே தீர வேண்டும்!
பொன்னாக அணிகின்ற மனிதனாய்ப் பிறந்தநான்
புதுயுகம் காண வேண்டும்!

 

Pullaki  , poondaaki  , puzhuvaaki irunthaalo

Pulambiye  theera  venum

Ponnaka anikindra manithanai  pirantha naan

Puthu yugam   kana  vendum

 

If you are  grass  , weed or worm,

You  have  to weep loudly

I who has been born as  a man wearing gold

Should  see the  new   age

 

கல்லாகி நிற்கின்ற தெய்வம் நீ இல்லையெனக்
காட்டிட விரைந்து வருக
கனதனம் நீதந்து காசினியில் புகழ்தந்து
காவலாய் நின்று அருள்க!

Kaattida virainthu  varuka

Ghhana dhanam nee thanthu , kasiniyil  pugazh thanthu

Kaavalai nindru arulka

 

You are the God standing as stone, to show ,

That it  is wrong,

After giving gifts and money., giving  fame on this earth

You should stand as guard

முள்ளாக மலராக மோதிடும் வாழ்க்கையில்
முற்றும் நான் நம்பி வந்தே!
மோதகப் பிரியனின் தாயான உன்னிடம்
முறையீடு செய்யு கின்றேன்!

 

Mullaka  malaraaka  mothidum  vaazhkkayil

Muthrum  naan nambi vandhe,

Modhaka  priyanin  thaayana  unnidam

Murayeedu  cheikindren

 

In this life where we dash as  thorn and as flower

I came  completely believing in you,

With you who is mother of him who likes Modhaka,

I am making an appeal

பல்லக்கு பரிவாரம் பார்த்திடும் ராஜாங்க
பவனியை எனக்கு அருள்க - அம்மா

Oh mother  , please  grant me  procession with Palanquin,

So that  all people   around can see

எவருக்கு எதுவேண்டும் என்பதை அறிந்த நீ
