*ஸ்ரீ முக்தார்யாஷ்டகம்*

 (This is a prayer  addressed  to God  Sorimuthu  Ayyanar )

Sorimuthu Ayyanar   temple is supposed to be the first  temple dedicated tto him, when he went  to learn archery  in that place

 

*பாபநாஶ வனாவாஸம்ʼ பா⁴ண-தீர்தா²ஸ்பத³ம்ʼ விபு⁴ம்*

*ஸர்வாபீ³ஷ்ட-ப்ரதா³தாரம்ʼ முக்தார்யேஶம்ʼ நமாம்யஹம் .. 1..*

 

Papa nasa  vana  vasam  , bhana  theerthaspadham  vibhum

Sarvabheeshta pradhaa dharam  , muktharyesam   Namamyaham

(the sorimuthu Ayyanar  temple  is near Papanasam ,Tirunelveli)

 

I salute  Muthayya , who lives  in the forest  of papa nasam,

Who keeps  Bana theertha as his dear place and who  fulfills  all desires of devotees

 

*மலயபர்வத -கூடஸ்த²ம்ʼ மஹாலிங்க ஸமீபகம்*

*மங்களோபாத்த-வபுஷம்ʼ முக்தார்யேஶம்ʼ நமாம்யஹம் 2*

 

Malaya  parvatha kootastham  , mahalinga  sameepakam

Mangalopatha  vapusham  , muktharyesam  namamyaham

 

I salute  Muthayya, who lives  on Malaya(podhigai)  mountain

Who is near  God Mahalinga , who has form which is auspicious

(the temple  of sorimuthu Ayyanar  is situated on Podhigai malai and lord Mahalinga is the main god)

 

*மூலாதா⁴ரநிலயஸ்தம் கலௌ பா³ஷண தை³வதம்*

*வஸுத³ம் வரத³ம் தே³வம் முக்தார்யேஶம்ʼ நமாம்யஹம் 3*

(Sorimuthu Ayyanar  temple is believed  to be  first temple of Lord Ayyappa and is referred  as his moola dhara temple)

Mooladhara  nilayastham  , kalou  bashana  daivatham

Vasudham  varadham  devam  mutharyeham namamyaham

 

I salute  Muthayya, who is in  Mooladhaea,

Who is  God who talks  in kali age, and  who is god who grants  wealth as boon

 

*ஶுபா⁴ஷாடே³ ஹ்யமாவாஸ்யாம் பக்தாக³ஸ்த்ய வரப்ரத³ம்*

*கல்பத்ரு மூல ஸம்தீ³ப்தம் முக்தார்யேஶம்ʼ நமாம்யஹம் 4*

 

Shubha  aashaade  , hyamavasyam  , bhakthaka  sathya vara  pradham

Kalpa thau  moola samdheeptham, muktharyesam  namamyaham

(The main festival in sori muthu Ayyanar temple  is on Aadi Amavasya)

 

I salute  Muthayya, who  gave  boons to  Agasthya ,

Who was his devotee and who sits below  the wish giving tree

 

*இந்த்³ராதி³தே³வதாவ்ருʼந்தை³ர் இஷ்ட காமப்ரபூர்த்தயே*

*ஸ்வர்ண வர்ஷாபி⁴ஷிக்தம் தம் முக்தார்யேஶம்ʼ நமாம்யஹம் 5*

 

Indhradhi devatha  vrundair ishta  kama  prapoorthaye

Swarna varshabhishiktham  , Muktharyesam  namamyaham

 

I salute  Muthayya, who fulfilled all wishes  of Indra,

And other devas  who caused   a rain  of gold

(Sori muthu Ayyanar  is supposed  to have showered  gold and is also called “Pon sori muthu Ayyanar”

 

*ஶ்ருங்க²லபூ⁴தநாதா²தி ஸர்வபூ⁴த க³ணாவ்ருதம்*

*ஸர்வாஶ்சர்யமயம்ʼ தே³வம் முக்தார்யேஶம்ʼ நமாம்யஹம் 6*

 

Srungala  bhootha nadhadhi sarva  bhootha  ganavrutham

Sarva  ascharya  mayam  devam  , muktharyesam  namamyaham

 

I salute  Muthayya, who is surrounded   lord of  chain(sangili) bhootha

And is surrounded by other  BHoothas  and who does very many  wonderful sports

(One of the important  upa devathas  of Sori muthu ayyanar is SAngili Bhootham)

 

*ராஜராஜம் மிதாசாரம்ʼ தீர்தாதி³ப வரப்ரத³ம் .*

*ரேவதம் அச்வமாரூடம் முக்தார்யேஶம்ʼ நமாம்யஹம் 7*

 

Raja Rajam  mithacharam  , theerthadhipa  vara  pradham

Revatham  aswamaroodam , muktharyesam namamyaham

 

I salute  Muthayya, who is king of kings, who carries out  sports  beyond thoughts

Who gave boons  to Theerthapadhi king and who rides on a horse   called  Revatha

 

*பூ⁴தபா³தா⁴ ரோக³தாப ஸர்வ க்லேஶாதி³ நாஶனம்*

*பு⁴த³பாமர ஸேவ்யம் தம் முக்தார்யேஶம்ʼ நமாம்யஹம் 8*

 

Bhooths badhaa roga  thapa sarva  klesadhi  nasanam

Budha  pamara  sevyam  , tham  muktharyesam  namamyaham

 

I salute  Muthayya,  who destroys   all  sufferings  , due to,

Trouble caused by bhoothas like disease and  worries  and serves wise and ordinary people

 

*முக்தார்யாஷ்டகம் ஸ்தோத்ரம்ʼ தா³ஸாரவிந்த³ நிர்மிதம்*

*ஸர்வ தாப ஹரம் சைவ ஶாஸ்த்ரு ப⁴க்தி ப்ரத³ம் ஶுப⁴ம்*

 

Muktharyashtakam  stotram  dasaravindha  nirmitham

SArva thapa haram   , saiva  sasthru  bakthi  pradham shubham

 

The eight verse prayer addressed  to Muthaya was composed by his  devotee  Aravinda

Destroys all troubles and grants  special  devotion  to Sastha and does all good

 

ஸ்வாமியே சரணம் ஐயப்பா! சொரிமுத்தய்யனே சரணம் ஐயப்பா!
