Sri Kumara Upanishad

ஸ்ரீ குமாரோபநிஷத்

(Śrī Kumāra Upanishad)

(Here is a prayer  called  Kumara Upanishad, which consists  of 12 verses. I got the text in  Tamil   as well as English.  There  is slight  differences  in the text here   and there.Since I could not get   the Sanskrit version,  I do not know   which is correct.I have tried to translate it. “This upanishad is used for namaskara behind the Kodi maram in Thiruchendur t emple every day at 5:45 am.”

அம்போதி மத்யே ரவிகோட்யனேக ப்ரபாம்
ததாத்யாஸ்ரித ஜீவமத்யே
ஓம் ஹும்ஸ ஓம் தஸ்மை குமாராய நமோ அஸ்து . . . (1)

Ambodhi Madhye Ravi kotyaneka prabhaam,

THadathyaasritha  Jeeva  Madhye,

Om Hum   Om THasmai Kumaraya  Namosthu     1

Like    the luster of crores of sun   in the middle of the ocean,

In between the lives   greatly  depanding on it,

Om Hum Om, salutation    to  this  Lord  Kumara,

விராஜ யோகஸ்ய பலேன ஸாக்ஷfயம் ததாதி நம
குமாராய தஸ்மை
ஓம் ஹும்ஸ ஓம் தஸ்மை குமாராய நமோ அஸ்து . . . (2)

 Viraja  yogasya  phalena saakshyam   dadathi  nama,

Kumaraya   Thasmai,

Om Hum   Om THasmai Kumaraya  Namosthu          2

He   grants  proof   of  Shining Yoga,

Salutations to this lord Kumara

Om Hum Om, salutation    to  this  Lord  Kumara,

யோதீ தகாலே ஸ்வமாத் க்ருஹீத்வா ச்ருதிம்
கரோத்யன்ய ஜீவான் ஸ்வகோலே
ஓம் ஹும்ஸ ஓம் தஸ்மை குமாராய நமோ அஸ்து . . . (3)

Yo atheetha kale swamath   graheethwaa   srutheem,

Karaoth anya jeevaan swakole,

Om Hum   Om THasmai Kumaraya  Namosthu         

Who in the past   period caught the    sound of Vedas,

And made   the other beings as his own,

Om Hum Om, salutation    to  this  Lord  Kumara,

யஸ்யாம்ச ஜீவேன ஸம்ப்ராப்னுவந்தி த்விபாக
ஜீவாஸ்ச ஸமைககாலே
ஓம் ஹும்ஸ ஓம் தஸ்மை குமாராய நமோ அஸ்து . . . (4)

Yasyaamscha jeevena   sapraapnuvanthi dwibhaga,

Jeevaascha   samaika  Kaale,

Om Hum   Om THasmai Kumaraya  Namosthu         

He   who   got    the two  parts   of the beings,

At the time  of the joining of the beings  ,

Om Hum Om, salutation    to  this  Lord  Kumara,

ப்ரசோத யாந்நாத ஹுfருஸ்திதேன மந்த்ரான்ய
ஜீவம் ப்ரகடீ கரோதி
ஓம் ஹும்ஸ ஓம் தஸ்மை குமாராய நமோ அஸ்து . . . (5)

Pracodha yannadhahrusthithena manthraanya,

Jeevam  prakati  karothi,

Om Hum   Om THasmai Kumaraya  Namosthu     

Instigating that sound of the chant   which is in the mind,

He   reveals   the being,

Om Hum Om, salutation    to  this  Lord  Kumara,

   

பாந்த்வ்ய கல்லோலஹுfருத்வாரி தூரே விமான
மகார்க்கஸ்ய ச ய கரோதி
ஓம் ஹும்ஸ ஓம் தஸ்மை குமாராய நமோ அஸ்து . . . (6)

Bandhavya kallola hrudwari dhoore  vimana,

Makarkasya cha  Ya karothi,

Om Hum   Om THasmai Kumaraya  Namosthu   

That  is the joy of the heart of relationship  which will make,

The distance  to the sun to a near place

Om Hum Om, salutation    to  this  Lord  Kumara,

ஸத்தீக்ஷயாசாஸ்த்ர ஸ்ப்த ஸம்ருதிர் ஹுfருத்
வாதாம்ச சின்னாதனு பூதிரூபம்
ஓம் ஹும்ஸ ஓம் தஸ்மை குமாராய நமோ அஸ்து . . . (7)

SAdheekshayaa sasthra saptha   smruthir   hrud,

Vaathamscha china dhanu    bhoothi roopam

Om Hum   Om THasmai Kumaraya  Namosthu                   

Along with penance makingthe seven sastras  in to the mind,

And having a form which broke the   bow of the enemy,

Om Hum Om, salutation    to  this  Lord  Kumara,

தீக்ஷa விதிக்ஞான சதுர்விதான்ய ப்ரசோத யான்
மந்த்ர தைவாத்வரஸ்ய
ஓம் ஹும்ஸ ஓம் தஸ்மை குமாராய நமோ அஸ்து . . . (8)

Dheekshaa  vidhi jnana  chathur vidha  anya  prachodhayan,

Manthra deivathrayasya

Om Hum   Om THasmai Kumaraya  Namosthu                   

Encpuragement    by  the  rules of penance and four types  of wisdom,

Is the Manthra of the trinity,

Om Hum Om, salutation    to  this  Lord  Kumara,

கோட்யத்ப தத்வாஸHகம் கச்சிதி யஸ்யபாதம்
ஓம் ஹும்ஸ ஓம் தஸ்மை குமாராய நமோ அஸ்து . . . (9)

Kodyathbuthe   sapathabhireva  manthrai,

Hathwaa  sukham   kachith  yasya  padham,

Om Hum   Om THasmai Kumaraya  Namosthu    

Crores of wonderful      seven fold   chants,

Would grant pleasure  equal to his feet,

Om Hum Om, salutation    to  this  Lord  Kumara,

        

ஸ்வஸ்லாதிகாராச்ச விமுக்கதேவா சீர்ஷேண
ஸம்யோகயேத் யஸ்யபாதம்
ஓம் ஹும்ஸ ஓம் தஸ்மை குமாராய நமோ அஸ்து . . . (10)

Swasthathikaramscha vimuktha deva seershena,

SAmyoga  yeth   yasya  padham,

Om Hum   Om THasmai Kumaraya  Namosthu    

Freed   from the control of health along  with  ,

Union  with his feet,

Om Hum Om, salutation    to  this  Lord  Kumara,

ஹுHம்கார சப்தேன ஸ்ருஷ்டிப்பாவம் ஜீவஸ்ய
தத்தம் ஸ்வவரேண யேன
ஓம் ஹும்ஸ ஓம் தஸ்மை குமாராய நமோ அஸ்து . . . (11)

Humkara   sabdhena srushti  bhavam ,

Jeevasya    datham swa varena yena,

Om Hum   Om THasmai Kumaraya  Namosthu    

The beings get spirit of creation by sound Hum,

And he grants to him  his boons,

Om Hum Om, salutation    to  this  Lord  Kumara,

விராஜபத்ரஸ்த்த குமார பூதிம் யோ பக்தஹுஸ்தேன
ஸம்ஸ்வீகரோதி, ஸஸர்வஸம்பத் ஸமவாப்திபூர்ண
பவேத்தி ஸம்யாதி தம் தீர்க்கமாயு ஏதாத்ருசா நுக்ரஹு
பாஸிதாய ஸாகல்ய கோலாய வை ஷண்முகாய
ஓம் ஹும்ஸ ஓம் தஸ்மை ஷண்முகாய நமோ அஸ்து . . . (12)

Viraja pathrastha kumara  bhoothim, yo bhaktha hasthena  samsveekarothi,

SA sarva   sampath samavapthi poorna bhaveddhi samyathi tham  DEerghamayuh

That  shining sacred ash of Kumara  that is received in  hands of devotees,

Would bring   all type of prosperity, which would become full and grant long life span

Ethad disanugraha bhasithaaya sakalya  kolaya vai  Shanmukhasya,

Om Hum   Om THasmai Kumaraya  Namosthu    

That   which shines  with  blessings   of all forms  of Lord  Shanumukha,
