The  octet  of praise  of Datha

 

1.Bhootha  pretha pisachaadhyaa  yasya  smarana mathradha

Dhooradheva  palayanthe, Dathathreyam   namami  tham

 

Just by   remembering his name  ghosts  , prethas   and devils

Run far away  , I salute   such  a  Dathathreya

 

2.Kan nama smarannadh dainyam  , paapam thapam   cha nasyathi,

BHeethi grahadhi duswapnam, Dathathreyam namami  tham

 

By  remembering whose  name  poverty  , sin   and suffering gets destroyed,

Along with fear   of planets and bad dreams , I salute   such a  Dathathreya

 

 

3. thadru sphota kushtaadhi, maha maari vishoochikaa

Nasyanthi anyeyi rogascha  , Dathathreyam  namami tham

 

He by whom  thebody eruptions  , leprosy , great  epidemics, cholera,

And all other diseases  get destroyed, I salute  such a Dathathreya

 

4.Sangajaa  desa kalodhaa abhi saankramikaa  kadhaa

Saamyanthi  yath   smarantho  , Dathathreyam  namami tham

 

Thoseinfectious diseases  which spread  in groups, or wplaces  or in countries

Would get pacified   by rememberinghim  ,I salute   such a   Dathathreya

 

5.Sarpa Vruschika  Dushtaanaam  Vishar  dhana  sareeraanaam

Yannama  santhitham  seegram, Dathathreyam   namami  tham

 

Those   evil poisonous beings like  Serpent and scorpion  which  gifts  poison to the body,

Would be pacified   swiftly  by remembering his name  , I    salute such a Dathathreya

 

6.Tryaitho  utpadha   samanam, vidhi dharishta  nasanam

Yannam kroora  bheethignam , Dathathreyam namami  tham

 

That  which reduces  the heat  from sun , Which destroys the famines  by fate

Get scared   by his name  , I salute   such a Dathathreya

 

7.Yath sishya   smaranaatham , sathyo  gatha  nashtaadhi  labhyathe

Ya eesa  sarvatha  thraathaa  , Dathathreyam   namami  tham

 

He , remembering of whose name, That which is truly  lost  is recovered,

That God who  always   saves us,  I salute such a Dathathreya

 

8.Jaya laabha yasha  kama dathu  , dathasya  ya   sthavam

Boga  moksha pradhasyemam padeth   Datha  priyo  bhaveth

 

This prayer  of Dathathreya   which beings victory,and fame  and fulfills   your desires,

If read   grants   joy in life   as well as salvation and will make him   dear  to dathathreya

 

Ithi   Sri vasu devananda Saraswathi  virachitha

Sri datha sthavanaashtakam    sampoornam
