வன்தாளி னிணைவணங்கி வளநகரம் தொழுதேத்த மன்ன னாவான்
நின்றாயை அரியணைமே லிருந்தாயை நெடுங்கானம் படரப் போகு
என்றாள்,எம் இராமாவோ உனைப்பயந்த கைகேசி தஞ்சொற் கேட்டு
நன்றாக நானிலத்தை யாள்வித்தேன்  நன்மகனே உன்னை நானே. 1

 

Van thalinai  vanangi vaLa  nagaram  thozhuthetha  manannavaan

Nidrayai  ariyanai  melirunthayai nedumkanam  padara poku

Yendraal , yem ramavo unai bhayantha  kaikesi  thanchor  kettu

Nandraaka   naanilathai yaalvithen yen magane , unnai naane

 

After  saluting  the   great  twin feet of lord Narayana,  you would have , become a king

Saluted and praised  by this great city , but you are to    go  to the forest which is difficult   to enter

She said, , Oh Good son  , I (dasaratha)   heard  the words  of Kaikeyi  who used to like you ,

Though  I made you  practice to  rule   this  country   in a very proper   way

வெவ்வாயேன் வெவ்வுரைகேட் டிரு நிலத்தை வேண்டாதே விரைந்து வென்றி
மைவாய களிறொழிந்து தேரொழிந்து மாவொழிந்து வனமே மேவி
நெய்வாய வேல்நெடுங்கண் நேரிழையும்இளங்கோவும் பின்பு போக
எவ்வாறு நடந்தனையெம் இரமாவோ எம்பெருமான் எஞ்செய் கேனே. 2

 

Vevvayen  vevurai kettu   iru nilathai   vendathew virainthu  vendri

Mailaya kalir ozhinthu  therozhinthu  maavozhinthu  vaname  mevi

Nei vaya vel  nedum kan nerizhayum  ilankovum   pinbu poka

Yevvaru nadanthanai  , yemmiramavo, yem peruman    yen cheithene

 

Obeying   the harsh words   from my cruel mouth  , without wishing  for this big kingdom

And leaving it , Leaving the big mouthed  elephant  , leaving the great  chariot  , leaving the  horses

You reached the forest   along with  Sita with long pointed eyes which is   like the  spear with  ghee  applied tips

Wearing  ornaments  , followed by  your young brother ,  how  did you walk, oh Rama, Oh  God what  shall I do?

கொல்லணைவேல் வரிநெடுங்கண் கோசலைதன் குலமதலாய் குனிவில் லேந்தும்
மல்லணைந்த வரைத்தோளா வல்வினையேன் மனமுருக்கும் வகையே கற்றாய்
மெல்லணைமேல் முன்துயின்றாய் இன்றினிப்போய் வியன்கான மரத்தின் நீழல்
கல்லணைமேல் கண்டுயிலக் கற்றனையோ  காகுத்தா கரிய கோவே. 3

 

Kollanai vel  varu  nedumkan  kosalai than  kula madalaao , kuni villendhum

Mallanaintha varaintholaa  , val vinayyen   manamurukum  vakaye  kathrai

Mellanai mel  mun thuyindrai   indrini poi viyan kana  marathon  neezhal

Kallanai mel   kanduyila  kathranayo   kakutha  kari  Kove!

 

Oh baby of the clan of Kauasalya,  who has  broad long eyes like  the killing spear, oh Lord,

Who wears  the  curved bow  , who has  strong mountain like shoulders  , you learnt  only to melt the mind of great sinner  like me

You slept on soft bed earlier but from today  going to forest you would sleep  below leafless  trees in the cruel forest

Oh Kakustha , oh black king , did you learn to sleep  and close your eyes on the   bed  of rocks

வேய்போலு மெழில்தோளி தன்பொருட்டா விடையோன்றன் வில்லைச் செற்றாய்
மாபோகு நெடுங்கானம் வல்வினையேன் மனமுருக்கும் மகனே இன்று
நீபோக என்னெஞ்ச மிருபிளவாய்ப்  போகாதே நிற்கு மாறே. 4

 

Vaa poku vaa innam   oru kalkandu po malarial  koonthal

Vei polum  yezhil  thil ithan  porutta vidayon than  villai   chethrai

Maapoku  nedumkanam  vallinayen  manamurukkum makane  , indru

Neee poka   yen enjam  iru pilavai  pokaathe  nirku mare

 

Come here and now go ,once again  see me and go oh Lord   who for sake of,

Lady  who decorated her hairs with flowers and had pretty shoulders  like a bamboo

Broke the  bow  of the lord Shiva  , oh son who melts my  mind  , today   when you,

Go to huge forests where elephants wander, how come my mind  is not splitting in two pieces

விரும்பாத கான்விரும்பி வெயிலுறைப்ப வெம்பசிநோய் கூர இன்று
பெரும்பாவி யேன்மகனே போகின்றாய் கேகயர்கோன் மகளாய்ப் பெற்ற
அரும்பாவி சொற்கேட்ட அருவினையேன் எஞ்செய்கேன் அந்தோ யானே. 5

 

POrunthar kai   vel nuthi poall paral paaya  melladikal   kuruthi chora

Virumbatha   kaan virumbi  veyilurai ppa  vem pasi  noi koora  indru

Perumpaviyen makane  pokindrai , kekayar  kon makalai  pethra

Arumpavi  chor   ketta   aru  vinayen  yenchiken   antho yaane

 

Similar to the sharp spear of SAthrugna  which pierces his enemies, when white stones pierce  your soft feet,

Making blood  to ooze  , with heat  of sun drying you  from top   ,  with  cruel hunger piercing your stomach

Oh son of this great sinner , you are going to  the  most disliked forest   with liking  , obeying me  And I am the great  sinner

Who obeyed  tha words of  the great sinner who is  daughter of king of Kekaya, What  shall I do now?

அம்மாவென் றுகந்தழைக்கு மார்வச்சொல் கேளாதே அணிசேர் மார்வம்
என்மார்வத் திடையழுந்தத் தழுவாதே முழுசாதே மோவா துச்சி
கைம்மாவின் நடையன்ன மென்னடையும் கமலம்போல் முகமும் காணாது
எம்மானை யென்மகனை யிழந்திட்ட இழிதகையே னிருக்கின் றேனே. 6

 

Amma  verdru  uganthu  azhaikum  aarva chol kelaathe, ani cher  marvam

Yen mrvathidai yazhuntha thazhuvaathe  muzhsaathe  movaa thuchi

Kaimmavin nadayanna mennadayum  kamalam poal mukamum  kaaanaathu
Yemmanai  , yen makanai  yizhanthitta izhi thakayen irukkindrene

 

With out hearing the  affectionate call “Oh mother” , without  the  tight hug,

By him with his ornamented  chest pressing me  , without  drowning in that  ocean of joy

Without smelling his head  , Without seeing his  elephant like  swan like walk  , without seeing his  lotus like face

Loosing my son  , who attacted  me by his walk  ., This person doing lowly  jobs is there

பூமருவு நறுங்குஞ்சி புஞ்சடையாய்ப் புனைந்துபூந் துகில்சே ரல்குல்
காமரெழில் விழலுடுத்துக் கலனணியா  தங்கங்க ளழகு மாறி
ஏமருதோ ளென்புதல்வன் யானின்று செலத்தக்க வனந்தான் சேர்தல்
தூமறையீர் இதுதகவோ சுமந்திரனே விசிட்டனே சொல்லீர் நீரே. 7

 

Poo maruvu  narunkunchi  pun chadayaa  punainthu , poon thukil cheral kul

Kamarezhil  vizhaluduthu  kalananiyaa thangangal  azhaku maari

Yemarutho len puthalvan yaanindru chelathakka vanamthaan cherthal

Thoo marayeer, ithu thakavo , sumanthirane   visittane   cholleer neere

 

The  flowers without changing their sweet smell, making it in to braid, , with hips tied  with silk cloths

Tied  with thread , making passionate people  fall in love, without wearing the   ornaments

Without any artificial beauty and also  My son who has shoulders making  enemies get scared,

Is it proper for him to go to forest  where  I should go? Oh very holy  Sumanthra  and  Vaishta please tell?

பொன்பெற்றா ரெழில்வேதப் புதல்வனையும் தம்பியையும் பூவை போலும்
மின்பற்றா நுண்மருங்குல் மெல்லியலென் மருகிகையும் வனத்தில் போக்கி
நின்பற்றா நின்மகன்மேல் பழிவிளைத்திட்டென்னையும்நீள் வானில் போக்க
என்பெற்றாய் கைகேசீ இருநிலத்தில் இனிதாக விருக்கின் றாயே. 8

 

Pon pethorezhil veda pudhavanayum, thambiyayum  poovai poalum

Min pathraa  nun  marungul  melliyalen  marukikayum, vanathil pokki

Nin pathraa nin magan mel pazhi vilaithittennayum neel vaanil pokka

Yen pethrai kaikesi iru nilathil  inithaaka  virukkindraaye

 

By sending my  pretty son who has learned  Vedas  from learned people, his brothrer,my daughter in law

With soft nature who is like poovai bird, who has  hips as thin as   the  lightning to the forest,

And by making blame attached to your son who is dear to you and also making me to go to heaven

What did you get , Oh Kaikeyi who is very happily   staying on this good land ,

முன்னொருநாள் மழுவாளி சிலைவாங்கி  அவன்தவத்தை முற்றும் செற்றாய்
உன்னையுமுன் னருமையையு முன்மோயின் வருத்தமுமொன் றாகக்கொள்ளாது
என்னையும்என் மெய்யுரையும் மெய்யாகக் கொண்டுவனம் புக்க எந்தாய்
நின்னையே மகனாகப் பெறப்பெறுவேன் ஏழ்பிறப்பும் நெடுந்தோள் வேந்தே. 9

 

Munnoru naal  mazhuvaali  chilai vaangi  avan thavathai muthrum  cheththai

Unnayum  un arumayayum un moyin varuthamum   ondraaka  kollathu

Yennayum   yen meyyurayum  meyyaka kondu  vana,  pukkaventhai

Ninnaye  makanaaka  pera   peruven yezh pirapppum nedum thol  venthe

 

At one time  , getting the bow of  Parasurama , you completely   destroyed, the result of his  Thapas(meditation)

Without  bothering much about you, your dear qualities, and the sorrow  of your mother,

Thinking   me  and my habit of telling the truth as truth  , Oh son who went to forest

Oh king with  big shoulders, I will get  you as son in my next   seven births

தேன்நகுமா மலர்க்கூந்தல் கௌசலையும் சுமித்திரையும் சிந்தை நோவ
கூனுருவில் கொடுந்தொழுத்தை சொற்கேட்ட கொடியவள்தன் சொற்கொண்டு இன்று
கானகமே மிகவிரும்பி நீதுறந்த  வளநகரைத் துறந்து நானும்
வானகமே மிகவிரும்பிப் போகின்றேன்  மனுகுலத்தார் தங்கள் கோவே. 10

 

Then nagumaa   malar  koonthal  kausalayum   sumithrayum  chinthai nova

Koonuruvil   kodum thozhuthai chor ketta  kodiyaval  than chor kondu  indru

Kaanaka me  miga  virumbi   nee thurantha  vala nagarai  thuranthu naanum

Vaanakame  miga  virumbi pokindren manu kulathaar   thangal kove

 

Giving pain to mind of  Kausaya and Sumithra with pretty flowers dripping of honey
Obeying the cruel one  who  obeyed   the hunchback with a  crooked mind

You   left this great city   liking the   forest much   and I also am leaving

Desiring  greatly the heaven and going there oh king  of  the great Manu clan

ஏரார்ந்த கருநெடுமால் இராமனாய் வனம்புக்க அதனுக் காற்றா
தாரர்ந்த தடவரைத்தோள் தயரதன்றான் புலம்பியஅப் புலம்பல் தன்னை
கூரார்ந்த வேல்வலவன் கோழியர்கோன் குடைக்குலசே கரஞ்சொற் செய்த
சீரார்ந்த தமிழ்மாலை யிவைவல்லார்  தீநெறிக்கண் செல்லார் தாமே. 11

 

Yeraarnths  karu nedu maal   ramanai  vanam pukka athanukku  aaththaa

Thararntha thadavarai  thol  dayaradhan   thaan pulambiya appulambal thannai

Koorarntha vel vallavan  kozhiyar kon  kudai kula   sekaran chor   cheitha

Cheerarntha  thamizh maalai ivai  vallar thee neri kan cellar thaame

 

The black tall Vishnu took incarnation as Rama and went to forest, and unable to bear it

Dasaradha   wearing garland  of victory  and had mountain like shoulders lamented  and that lament

Has been described by Kulasekara  , the king of Urayur  having   white royal umbrella and an expert  in using spear,

In the form of a very pretty  garland of tamil words  and reading it , able  people would not go in wrong path
