Madana  Mohanashtakam

(My friend Sri Shivam Perinkulam  in his blog says

“Madana mohanastakam’ is really ‘mohanam’, a lovely prayer song. You can sing the melody and forget yourself, forget the world around, while at home or in a lonely forest or under a moonlit sky or in the pouring rain.

In the ‘karaavalamba stotram’, we seek Narasimha’s hands for our rescue,  whereas in Madana Mohanashtakam, we seek Sree Krishna’s feet. The eight slokas are simple, sincere and a heart -to heart appeal to the Divinity.”

 

But  since  the word  used is Padha , it could  mean also “position” and I have  preferred  to give  both  meaning.

जय शङ्खगदाधर नीलकलेवर
पीतपटाम्बर देहि पदम् ।
जय चन्दनचर्चित कुण्डलमण्डित
कौस्तुभशोभित देहि पदम् ॥१॥

 

Jaya   Sankha  gadhadhara , neela  kalevara
Peetha  patambara   dehi  padham

Jaya chandana  charchithaq kundala  manditha

Kausthubha  shobhitha dehi padham

 

Hail  he  holds conch  and mace  , who has  blue  body

Wears    an yellow silk , please  give me  salvation (your feet)

Hail he  who is smeared  with sandal , who shines   with ear   globes

Who  shines    with kausthubha  , give me  salvation  (your feet)

 

जय पङ्कजलोचन मारविमोहन
पापविखण्डन देहि पदम् ।
जय वेणुनिनादक रासविहारक
वङ्किम सुन्दर देहि पदम् ॥२॥

 

Jaya  Pankaja  lochana  , maara  vimohana

Papa  Vikhandana, dehi padham

Jaya  venu  ninadhaka   rasa  viharaka

Vangima  sundara   dehi  padam

 

Hail   he who has  lotus like eyes,who attracts  god of love

Who cuts  of  sins  , grant me  salvation(  Your feet)

Hail  he who plays  on flute  , who dances   Rasa

Who is pretty in bent pose  , grant me  salvation(Your feet)

जय धीरधुरन्धर अद्भुतसुन्दर
दैवतसेवित देहि पदम् ।
जय विश्वविमोहन मानसमोहन
संस्थितिकारण देहि पदम् ॥३॥

 

Jaya  dheera  durandhara  , adbutha  sundara

Daivatha  sevitha , dehi padham

Jaya   viswa  vimohana, manasa  mohana

SAmsthithi  karana , dehi padham

 

Hail brave   wise  one, who is miraculously  pretty

Who is  served  by Gods, grant me salvation  (Your feet)

Hail  he who  attracts  the universe, who has   a pretty  mind

Who is cause of our  existence, Grant me salvation(  your feet)

जय भक्तजनाश्रय नित्यसुखालय
अन्तिमबान्धव देहि पदम् ।
जय दुर्जनशासन केलिपरायण
कालियमर्दन देहि पदम् ॥४॥

Jaya  baktha  janasraya, nithya  sukhalaya

Anthima  Bandhava , dehi padham

Jaya   durjana sasana, keli parayana

Kaliya  mardhana  , dehi oadham

 

Hail one  depended by devotes, he who is abode  of permanent  pleasure

Who is our  lst  relative  ,  grant me salvation(  Your feet)

Hail he who punishes   evil people , who is forever  interested in play

Who danced   on head  of kaliya  , grant me  salvation(your feet)

जय नित्यनिरामय दीनदयामय
चिन्मय माधव देहि पदम् ।
जय पामरपावन धर्मपरायण
दानवसूदन देहि पदम् ॥५॥

 

Jaya  nithya  niramaya , dheena dhaya maya

Chinmaya  madhava  , dehi padham

Jaya  Pamara  pavana   , Dharma  parayana

Dhanava   sudhana , dehi padham

 

Hail to him who is forever whole  , Who is pervaded  with mercy  to the suffering

Who is madhava filled with   divinity  , Grant  me salvation (your feet)

Hail who purifies the poor , who is pervaded with charity

Who kills asuras  , Grant me  salvation(  your feet)

जय वेदविदांवर गोपवधूप्रिय
वृन्दावनधन देहि पदम् ।
जय सत्यसनातन दुर्गतिभञ्जन
सज्जनरञ्जन देहि पदम् ॥६॥

 

Jaya   veda  vidhamvara , gopa  vadhu  priya

Vrindhavana dhana  , dehi padham

Jaya  sathya   sanathana durgathi  banjana

Sajjana ranjana  dehi padham

 

Hail he who is pervaded  with wisdom of Vedas, he who likes  gopi young ladies

Who is wealth of Vrindhavans, Grant me salvation(your feet)

Hail he who is really  beginningless, he   who  smashes bad  fate

He who entertains good people  , grant me salvation  (your feet)

जय सेवकवत्सल करुणासागर
वाञ्छितपूरक देहि पदम् ।
जय पूतधरातल देवपरात्पर
सत्त्वगुणाकर देहि पदम् ॥७॥

 

Jaya   sevaka  vathsala , karuna sagara

Vaanchitha  pooraka, dehi padham

Jaya pootha dhara  thala, deva  parathpara

SAthva  gunakara dehi padham

 

Hail to him who is  dear to those who serve him , who is  ocen of mercy

Who fulfils   desires  grant me   salvation(your feet)

Hail to him who purifies  all he touches, He is most divine  among devas

Who  makes  everything soft conduct  , grant me   salvation (Your feet)

जय गोकुलभूषण कंसनिषूदन
सात्वतजीवन देहि पदम् ।
जय योगपरायण संसृतिवारण
ब्रह्मनिरञ्जन देहि पदम् ॥८॥

 

Jaya gokula  bhooshana , kamsa  nishoodhana

Saathvatha  jeevana   , dehi padham

Jaya   yoga parayana , samsmruthi  varana

Brahma  niranjana   dehi padham

 

Hail to theornament of gokula, who killed  Kamsa

Who  leads  to a soft life  , Grant me  salvation( Your feet)

Hail one who pervades in all yoga , who leads to unified life

Who is supreme being who creates  grant me  salvation( your feet)

॥ इति श्रीमदनमोहनाष्टकं सम्पूर्णम् ॥

Ithi  sri  madhana  Mohanashtakam  SAmpoornam
