Panniru  vizhi Azhagai  Muruga

Courtsey  Alli Malar

Translated by
P.R.Ramachander

(I came across   this great Tamil song   from the posting  of  my face book friend Alli Malar. The song is   steeped  in devotion  .According to her this song is being sung   at the Arul migu  SEnthil Murugan  Thirukovil  (Also called Acha Kovil)  in Taman Perling  , Johor , Malaysia  . From Kaumaram  web site  I understand that  this temple was built in 1924 by Sri  Baskaran Pillai(originally from Kerala)  and his wife Smt.Kupu (Read more about the temple in   http://www.kaumaram.com/aalayam/index_tamanperling.html ). You can hear it  sung with  deep drenched emotion in https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7YDA3mweuSo.  )

Pallavi/refrain

Oh Muruga, if we   see  the  beauty  of your twelve eyes,
Would we ever get  hungry.

Charanam

Oh Muruga  if we hear  the  cool tamil from your mouth,
Would we ever   feel sad?

Oh Muruga  if we hear  the  cool tamil from your mouth,
Would we ever   feel sad?

What is the use  of having two eyes?
Without being able to see  the beauty of your Kadhir Vel.

What if we have  two legs?
Without being able to reach your hill.

What is the use of gold and wealth?
Without the sweetness  of your smile.

What is the need of my soul ,
Without being able to worship your twin feet.

What t is the  use sound?
Without  being able to sing “Om”, “Om”  once

What is the  use  of desire ?
Without  being able  to follow the path  of your grace.

Oh Muruga, if we   see  the  beauty  of your twelve eyes,
Would we ever get  hungry.

Go Grasa Slokam (Prayer to feed grass to the cow.)

Go Grasa  Slokam
(Prayer   to feed  grass  to the cow.)

Hindu religion believes that Cow  is the most scared  animal , which  protects us  .

The Dharma Sastras tell us that  if we are  not  able to perform Sradha  to our ancestors due  to   reasons  beyond our control  , we can on that   day , feed  fresh grass  to feed    the cow  and please  our  ancestors.

Also  When in The horoscope  Shukra(Venus)   is in Kanya Rasi   where  it is Neecha   or   when it is in the house  of Sun(Simha rasI)  or  when it is in   the house  of moon (Karkidaka  Rasi) ,  which positions  indicate the Curse  of Cow  and  evil  effects like  great delay in marriage ,  sorrowful family  life due to domestic quarrels  etc would be felt.  , These  bad effects can be got rid of by feeding   Green grass  to a cow. There  is a simple procedure   for this.

1.Pray the cow   chanting this prayer  and offer it grass  to eat.

Saurameyya  , sarva hithaa ,
Pavithra punyarasaya,
Prathigrhnam  thwimam ,
Gava  sthrilokhya  Mathara

Meaning
Let  the cow  , which is the  mother  of three  worlds,
Who  is   from divine  cow Kamadhenu,
Who  does   good to all  , who is pure,
And who  is the  personification  of blessed deeds,
Accept   this   grass  from me.

2.Go   Round the cow  and salute the cow  by chanting   this stotra:-

Gavaam angeshu   thishtanthi   bhuvanaani    chathurdasa,
Yasmath thasmath  chivam   may  syatha   yiha loke   parathra  cha.

Meaning.
Since all  the fourteen worlds   are  inside  the limbs  of the cow,
Let it grant me   joy  in this   world and   in heavens.

Vedas   also  assert that  all the five great sins   would   go away  by doing this.

Adhi Sankara's Brahamaramba Ashtakam

Brahamaramba  Ashtakam

By
Adhi sankaracharya

Translated  by
P.R.Ramachander

(This is a  prayer addressed to the Goddess Brahmarambika of the   temple at Sri Sailam in  Kurnool district of  Andhra Pradesh. “ There are several legends associated with Bhramaramba Devi and one of the most popular one is she releasing thousands of bees to annihilate a demon.
Legend has it that a demon named Arunasura after strict austerities and penance pleased God Brahma and gained the boon that he will not be killed by any living being with two or four legs.
After acquiring the boon, he started troubling devas, saints and humans. Due to the boon, Devas were unable to defeat him. Finally, all living beings approached Goddess Durga and requested to save them from Arunasura. Goddess Durga then released thousands of bees, which had six legs, from her body. They stung the Asura to death. Goddess Durga remained in the form of Bramarambika at Srisailam.
At Srisailam Temple, Bhramaramba Devi is depicted as having eight arms and is adorned with silk sari. Married women perform different pujas for a happy and prosperous family life.” (Reference:- http://www.hindu-blog.com/2010/10/goddess-bramarambika-story-of.html
