(The iyers  who have settled  in palakkad   showed  very great  devotion to  Lord of Pazhani. Naturally the community  further split in to Malabar also  . Few weeks before The Thai  Poosam in Pazhani  , a few  Brahmins  living in Taliprambu  would perform a pooja  to Lord Subrhmanya. They  will sing lot of songs on Muruga , offer  Panakam to god   and start walking  towards Pazhani . In ever Brahmin village   , they will celebrate  panaka pooja  and collect food articles  for doing Anna dhanam in Pazhani  in a sathram called  Kozhuman yajamanan  sathram

   The songs of Panaka pooja  would be in palakkad  tamil , and celebrating like that  before  Thai poosam  they will reach Pazhani . Daily  they will cook  food articles  they have collected and feed the devotees of Muruga .with small changes  this custom still   continues  in Palakkad

   There is a small Malayalam book  giving  list  of Panaka  pooja songs.With great  difficulty  I have translated a few songs

Adhithya Varam- sunday

 

Vaadhitha soorarai vadivel  yeduthu, vaal iynthu  kondu

Saashithu vendra  dhayaa parane, yenthan  chanchalathai

Sodhithu paarthu, thuar thanai  neekki nar thogayudan

AAdhithya  varam  varuvai  pazhani  nallandavane

 

Oh merciful one  , youPunished  Soora   who argued  taking 

Your staff like Vel  as well   as five swords and  you won,

Please  examine  my restlessness, remove my sorrow

And come  on Sunday, Oh  Aandava (God)  of Pazhani.

 

Soma varam-monday

Ungal thagappan kai  kanikkai, ulagu  yezhum chuthri

Kankal   sivanthida   vanthu nindraai antha kai pazham  poal

Yengal mel  kuthram yaathirunthaalum, irangu , manam

THingat kizhamai  varuvai  pazhani nal  desikane

 

For the sake   of the fruit  in hand of your father, you went round the seven worlds,

And came back  with eyes    as red as   that  fruit  in his hand

Whatever may be our mistake , please  pardon us

And come on Monday, Oh good Guru of Pazhani

 

Mangala vaaram -Tuesday

 

Kovvai  ithazh unnum  valli  devayanaithan    kandha  guhne

Than vvai  akappetta pampathu  poal un thamizh  marayon

Avvayil chikki alaya padaathu  adiyaarkalukku  irangi

Chevvai   kizhamayil   varuvai pazhani  nal sevakane

 

Oh Skanda  , Oh Guha  who is of Valli  and Devayani  with red mouth

Just  like the snake  caught  in the mouth of the peacock  ,  the tamizh  people

Should  not get caught  in that mouth and taking mercy  on the devotees

Please   come on Tuesday , oh  good service  provider  of Pazhani

 

Saumya  vaaram-Wednesday

 

Sathamenum veda  mudhal  yezhuthu otha , thalayil  katti

Thavamena   kettu arul  velane, yenthan  vinai  akala

Padham athu paada , kali thurai chollavum  panpu  thanthu

Budhan yenum  vaaram  pazhani  nal punniyane

 

For telling  Satha  , the first  letter of Vedas, after   tying on head,

Hearing it as penance and bless us Oh Vela, for  my fate  to go away

Please grant me  power to  sing a stanza and To chant  Kali thurai

Come on the  Wednesday  , the  blessed  God  of Pazhani

 

Guru vaaram-Thursday

 

Karuvai yezhunthirunthu, kai kaal mulaithu kazhintha  pinupu

Uruvai pirappitha uthamane  , oru  unmai   thanai

Thiruvai malarnthu  mun nindriduvai , nar   chevaludan

Guru vaara  naalil  varuvai Pazhani nar  guru  parane

 

Getting up as foetus , when the hands    and legs  have grown,

Oh Great man  who made  it born with a form, Please tell,

One truth by your divine mouth and stand before me along with  the good cock

On the Thursday please come , the divine   Guru of  Pazhani

 

Shukra vaaram-Friday

 

Ullil karuthi nindru , anjali  cheivorkku uganthu   vanthu

Alli  vibhoothiyidum  ayyane ,   Adiyaarkku   irangi

Valli  devanayudan mayileri  manam  uganthu

Velli  kizhamai  varumai pazhani  nal velavane

 

For those who think of you in the mind and salute  you , coming pleased

And picking  up the sacred ash   and applying to them, taking pity on devotees

Along with valli   devayanai climb on the   peaock and with pleased mind

Come  on Friday, Oh   good god with Vel  of Pazhani

 

Sani   vaaram-Saturday

 

Saniyaana paapi  ilamayile yenai thaan oduthaan

Iniyaagilum  chathru  irangalaye, un  manathu  yeppadiyo

Paniyaanathai  vanthu kathiron, vilakkidum    bhavanai poal

SAni vaara naalil varuvai , pazhani nal    shanmukhane

 

The sinner  called SAni, troubled me a lot in my youth
