THiavathira  Pattu

Thiruvathirakali or Kaikottikali is a popular dance form performed in Kerala. It was initially a ritual dance performed by women, in order to attain marital bliss, on the Thiruvathira day of the Malayalam month of
Thiruvathira  Kali

       Thiruvathira  is celebrated in a  great way  in Kerala . Most  of the houses  tie  a rope  swing  and children  keep  on swinging in that  .Women observe  it as a penance  not taking rice. They make a dish called  Kali with arrowroot, Orthodox ladies   eat  hundred  betel leaves  on that day

 

Young ladies engage  themselves  in a celebratory art  form called  THiruvathira kali .   In this art form, women dance around a lit lamp, Nilavilakku, clapping their hands in what is regarded as a celebration of womanhood. Groups of up to eight or ten women participate in the dance which is known for its grace and femininity.THiruvathira  Pattu  is sung  in the  back ground.

This is one such song  which describes the story  of Krishna  , Radha  and Gopies .When they  all were all playing  Krishna  vanishes with Radha ,The gopis  start   searching for them. Meanwhile after  some play Radha  requests  Krishna to carry  her on his shoulders .Krishna vanishes .Radha  comes back to the gopis .They all search together and find Krishna .

  This song  starts  with a prayer  to the  God  of Shukhapura which was  the native place  of Kunjan Nambiar. Enjoy the song

Kaattu mrigangale  Kandu  virachu , kaattil uzhannu nadakkum neram

Ningale  kaanmaanum sangathi vannu, ingane yennude vaarthakal yellam

After  seeing  the  cloud  coloured one  gopis  joined and celebrated with drums

And  danced Rasa  Kreeda ,and lived  day and night with perfect tune
