(Mathikkunnu is a village in Trikkur Desam, renowned for its tradition of customary rituals. This village, especially blessed by the Gods is on the eastern side of Trichur District, which is famed as the cultural capital of Kerala. From times immemorial, many holy men have chosen Mathikkunnu as the best place for their penance. Mathikkunnu Bhagavathy Temple is situated in a picturesque spot, below the enchanting mountain ranges, nestled under the spreading foliage of a peepul tree and adjacent to the temple pond. The benevolent Bhagavathy showers her blessings on all from this holy abode. The Mathikkunnu Bhagavathy is worshipped as the Goddess of the earth, ever ready to bless the devout and punish the sinners. Her temple is surrounded by the temples of Trikkoorappan, the presiding deity of Trikkoor, Veettikkunnu Shastaha, Maimbilly Thevar, Chochherikkunnu Subrahmanya Swamy, Variyathodi Maha Vishnu and Palathikkara Siva temple. Mathikkunnu Devi is the ultimate refuge of those who look for peace of mind and salvation. Ganapathy, Shastha, Vettekkaran, Veerabhadran, Subrahmanyan and the Navagrahas are consecrated as the minor deities within the temple premises. Outside the temple are Sree Muthappan, Nagam, Brahmarakshas and the Guruthithara. Mathikkunnu Temple has the unique distinction of considering any believer as a devotee. So, people belonging to all religions can enter this temple and worship the Goddess. It is a creditable fact that the main sanctum sanctorum and the idol of the Bhagavathy were dedicated by a devotee who belonged to the Christian community. Similarly, the sanctum of Lord Subrahmanya was dedicated to the Lord by a Muslim devotee. The power of the goddess becomes more and more pronounced with the customary rituals being performed at the appropriate time under the guidance of Tantri Brahmasri Puliyanoor Aniyan Namboothiripad. )
