(on 27^th june 2019, I brought out a compilation of  “ stotras composed by  Poonthanam” http://stotrarathna.blogspot.com/2019/06/translation-of-complete-works-of.html

 

Among them  there  is Vasudeva Sthuthi in Malayalam (https://stotrarathna.blogspot.com/2013/02/ponthanams-vasudeva-sthuthi-tamil.html )  and so when in face book I read about  a Vasudeva Pattu  by Poonthanam, I was  greatly interested. I contacted  dr.Ganga Ramachandran , a  very great  scholar , a Ph.D in music and an acknowledged  digital creatr and she was kind enough   to tell me that  it was  that taken from a grantha and she  has read and typed it out(https://geetanjaliglobalgurukulam.blogspot.com/2023/08/vasudeva-pattu-malayalm.html) and that   she has takan a video of the grantha   and also recited ihttps://youtu.be/ku7tBOvQEII . She also sent them to me 

My  google search also  revealed that https://english.mathrubhumi.com/features/books/rare-work-penned-by-poonthanam-in-tamil-manipravalam-recovered-1.5488773, which mentioned that the grantha was in Manipravalam( Mixture of Malayalam and Tamil)  and the The work was recovered by Polish research fellow Dr Maciej Karasinski who arrived in Kerala for research purposes and Kozhikode Chalappuram native Dr ... Dr G Sudev Krishna Sharma, a Sanskrit teacher at Wandoor GVMC School who obtained doctorate in Sanskrit from University of Calicut.......

.My first reaction was to translate it in to english .Only after  I did it I came to know she has already done  the translation which is great) I am presenting my translation :-

I salute the Lord of Radha,
Who is worshipped by Brahma and other devas,
Who is always worshipped by good people,
And who is accompanied by Bala Rama and others.

Bhakadhi daithya kalakam, sagopagopipalakam,
Manoharasi thalakam, namami Radhikadhipam. 2

I salute the lord of Radha,
Who killed asuras like Baka,
Who looked after gopas and gopis,
And who had pretty black lock of hair.

Surendra garva banjanam, virinchi moha banjanam,
Vrujanga nanu ranjanam, namami Radhikadhipam. 3

I salute the lord of Radha,
Who broke the pride of Devendra,
Who cured the illusion of Lord Brahma,
And who pacified the gopis.

Mayura pincha mandanam, gajendra danda gandanam,

Who decorates himself with feather of peacock,
Who broke the tusks of the elephant,

Who gave back the children of the Brahmin,
Who removed poverty of Sudhama,

Who removed the defeats of Arjuna,
Who destroyed huge army of enemies,

Who was the cause of the curse of sages,
Which destroyed the people of Yadu clan,

ஜோதி ரூபம் கண்டேனப்பா உன்னை 

தொழுதிடவே வந்தேனய்யா

மலையழகும் நதியழகும் மணிகண்டன் தேர் அழகும் 

மனமெல்லாம் நிறைந்ததைய்யா - அந்த 

மகிமை சொல்லப் பிறந்தேனய்யா.   (மலைகண்டு).

ललितचंद्रनिभाननसुस्मितं शिवपदं शिवपदं स्मरता शिवम् ।
विशदकोटितटित्प्रभया युतं शिवजया शिवया युतम् ॥ १ ॥

 

Lalitha Chandra nibhanana  susmitham ,

shivapadam shivapadham  smaratha shivam

Visadha koti thathith prabhayaa yutham 

shivajayaa  shivayaa  yutham.

 

I  think of  Lord Shiva with pleasing  moon like face

 The lord   Shiva, who is giver  of peace

Who  is spotless, shines like  one crore lightnings

And  who is Shiva   along  with  Goddess  Parvathi

 

नटननाट्यनटं नटगायकं जनमुदं जलजायतलोचनम् ।
भुजगभूषणभूषितविग्रहं प्रणम हे जनते जनवल्लभम् ॥ २ ॥

 

Nata natya  natam nata  gayakam

Janamudham  jalajaayutha  lochanam

BHujaga  bhooshan bhooshitha  vigraham

Pranama   Hey janathe  Jana vallabham

 

I  salute   the  actor   who dances , sings   while  dancing

Makes  people happy has     eyes like  lotus

Has a form wearing   snake    as ornament

Who loves  people  and  is the lord  of people

 

श्रुतिशतप्रभया प्रभया युतं हरिपदाब्जभवां शिरसा धृतम् ।
शिव शिवेति शिवेति शिवेति वै भव भवेति भवेति भवेति वा ।
मृड मृडेति मृडेति मृडेति वै भजति यः सततं प्रणतामियात् ॥ ३ ॥

 

SRuthi  satha  prabhayaa yutham

Hari padabja bhavaam sirasaa  drutham

Shiva  Shivethi  Shivethi  Shivethi

Vai bhava  bhavethi  Bhavethi   bhavethi vaa

Mruda  mrudethi mrudethi mrudethi vai

Bhajathi   ya sathatham pranathaamiyaath

 

He who has  a luster  of hundred Vedas

Who always  keeps  lord  vishnu’s lotus  feet on his head

And to those  who chant Shiva , Shiva , Shiva, Shiiva

He  who ensures bright future and    prosperity  to happen to them

He who makes  those who say Mruda   delighted  , delighted   and delighted

I pray to him always  and  I  bow to him
