The Go Savitri Stotram

The Go Savitri Stotram

TRanslated by
Sri .K.V.Ananthanarayanan

==================
in praise of Cows whom we revere as Divine beings walking on earth..
This is also called Go Savitri Mantram
==========================
If we chant this stotram and then smear our bodies with the dust from the places where the hooves of the cow was placed, then we would attain the punyam of having bath in all the theerthas anywhere , and we would be relieved of all sins.
This stotram, if chanted or listened to by pregnant ladies, would help them in safe delivery and begetting the male child too.
This stotram, if chanted or listened to by unmarried girls (or perhaps boys too) would result in their being blessed with suitable matches in marriage.
==========================
This Go Savitri Mantram is presented as rendered by Bheeshmacharya to Dharmaputra or Yudhistira during a discussion between the two..
It is said to be part of Mahabhartham..

FREE TRANSLATION..
------------------
1.After paying humble prostrations to Narayana and Goddess Devi who is the Controller of the three worlds, the Gosavitri Stotram is rendered here.. This mantram is eternal and it has been composed by Sage Vyasa Himself.
2.Immediately even on a casual hearing of this stotram, a person would get relieved of all sin.
Even the breath of the cow is Veda, with all its metrical and verbal representaion having the six distinctve features or Angas ( the six angas of Veda are Shiksha, Niruktham, Kalpa, Jyothisha, Chandas, and Vyakaranam)
3.The cow is verily Veda itself with its components, Shikshaa, Vyakaranam, Chandas, Niruktham and Jyothisha
Indra and Vishnu are present at the tips of the horns of the Cow.
4.Brahmadeva is present in the head of the cow,
the preceptor of Devas, Brihaspati is present in the neck of the Cow,
and Lord Shiva, who has a bull as insignia in his flag, is present on the forehead of the cow.
The twin gods Ashvins are present in the ears of the cow.
Her eyes house the Moon and the Sun
5.The gods of wind Maruts are present in the teeth of the cow.
In her tongue is present the goddess of speech and knowledge, mother Sarasvathi.
Her throat houses Varuna and in her heart is present Agni the god of Fire, who carries the oblations offered in yajnas to the gods.
6.Her abdomen is the earth itself with all her mountains, jungles and forests.
The hump on her back represents the sky with all its stars. Her rear portion is the seat of Yama, the Vaivasvata.
7.Her thighs house the gods Vasus. Her knees accommodate the god of winds, Vayu
Aditya, the Sun god, is present in her tail. Sadhyas occupy all her body joints.
8.All the holy waters are present in her rear excretory organs.. and in Her urine river Ganga, the daughter of sage Jahnu hereself is present.
The Goddess of wealth, sublimity, and growth, Laksmi is present ever in the dung of the cow.
9.In addition, the Goddess of wealth Shree and the powerful Jyeshtaa are present in the two nostrils of the cow.
The four teats in her Udders ( the organ which give milk) are the ever full four oceans..
10. In the middle of Her hooves, the Gandharvas are present.. The tips of the hooves house the reptiles and snakes.
The beautiful damsels of the Heaven, the Apsaras, can be seen in the western side of the hooves of the cow.
11.The deities representing the departed souls, the pitrs are found in the hanging hairs on the body of the cows, and the hair found in the tip of Her tail too. The sages are found in the roots of Her hair.. and her Skin houses the Prajapati.
12.The mooing of the cow would give out the Vedas, and every in every sound made by her, the Prajapathi himself is present.
Thus Her whole body is just the embodiment of Lord Vishnu and Her protector is none other than Lord Krishna with beautiful hair..
13.When a person who, when he sees a cow, goes round her in the clockwise, pradakshina way with reverence, is actually doing the pradashinam of the mother Earth, the Vasundhara, with all her seven continents or Islands.
14.Each cow who is present on the earth is capable of fulfilling all our desires, each cow is verily the Kamadhenu Herself who blesses all with whatever they want.
When one offer cooked food or fodder to the cow which is held in his hand to its fullest capacity, would gain untold and special beinefits.
15.Bheeshmas tells Yudhistira.. “Yudhistira, the one who recites this stotram or who hears this being recited, with great attention, gains the benefits one would derive by feeding hundred brahmins.
16.The brahmin who recites this attains great knowledge.
The warrior would gain kingdom
The business man would have great profits
And the rest of the people and the working class would get releived of all their sins.
17 A pregant woman reciting or hearing this stotra would give birth to a bright male child.
A young girl, reading or hearing it read would be blessed with suitable bridegroom.
Whoever recites this every morning and evening would attain peace of mind and great welfare.
18.Chanting this stotra even once would relieve a person of all the sins committed by him day in and day out. The effect of chanting this stotram is praised by learned people as bestower of the same benefits of making gifts of thousands of cows.
19.May the cows be present in front of me..
May the cows be present behind me
May the cows be present in my hear.. may they be so dear to me
May I be permitted to live in the midst of many cows.
20 May the morsel of food and fodder offered by me to every cow be received with great happines by mother Surabhi, the Divind Kamadhenu, who has stationed herself at the Lotus feet of Lord Vishnu Himself.
21.All the cows anywhere are my mothers, and every Vrishabha or Bull is my father..
May this morself of grain and fodder offered to the cow be received by Surabhi, the Kamadhenu Herself.
22.The chanting of this stotram and offering of grasam.. or balls of cooked grain and fodder to a cow would bestow on us the same benefits that would arise to one who gives as gift thousand cows to the best of learned persons and brahmins.
Thus is complete the Gosavitri Stotram, that occurs in Sree Mahabharatham as a discussionn between Bheeshma Pitamaha and Yudhistira..
