Sri Sath Guru Panchakam-Acharya Panchakam(Tamil)
Five verses about Great Guru
Translated by
P.R.Ramachander
(It is written in difficult tamil. Though it does not say about whom , reference in fourth stanza indicates that it may be about Maha Periyava)
Maa thava kundre , marai oli alai veesum Kudale
Aathavan pol udhithu, aka irul neekum Kathire
Bodamaam amudhu alikkum Kama Dhenuve , Karpaka tharuve(nin)
Padha kamalangal panithu anbaai potrukindren
Oh Great mountain of penance, Ohliver which gives out sound of Vedas
Oh awn of grain which rises up like sun and removes darkness
Oh wish giving tree/cow which grants nectar of knowledge
I salute your lotus like feet and with love praise you
Arum chudar veesum vizhikalum, amaithiyai alikkum mozhikalum
Maruttirum maya peyai -virattidum abhaya karamum
Iruttinil uzhaluvorkku , irai oli kaattidum padhamum
Kuruttu iru vinaikal neekki kudi konda thennakathil
Punnakayudan amarnthu –bodhikkum arul mozhikalum
THannalamatra vaazhvum –Annayin adikalil thaazhvum
Chonna chor thavaraatha panpum –cernthavarkalidathil anbum
Yennavendru yeduthu solli potruven Punyamurthy
With eyes divinely shining, with words that give peace
With blessing hand that drive away ghost of illusion confusing us
The burning lamp which shows divine light to those confused in darkness (ignorance)
And in the south removing the blind dark beliefs
Who teaches us divine words , sitting with a smile
Having selfless life, who bends at mother’s feet
Who has culture of keeping his words, who has love towards those who join him
Oh great blessed form , With what words shall I praise you
Kayathai koyilaakki-Kamakshi devi thanai
Neyathodu ul vaithu-nitham poojikkum Guruve
Maayamaam thirai vilakki marai porul thanai kaattum
THooya nin thiru padhangal thuthithu anbai pothrukindren
Making your body in to temple, With culture keeping,
Goddess Kamakshi inside, Oh Guru who daily worships her
Keeping aside the curtain of illusion and you who show the meaning of Vedas
I pray and praise your very pure divine feet
Inaithu moo nenjuk thondri –nin arul vazhangukindraai
Anaithilum nirainthu ondrai agathinnul kaattukindrai
Ninaithu unai arivum illa pethaikkum Karunai cheithaai
Yenai thanthen mithiyadikalaai un iru thaal malakke
Appearing before we think about you you are giving your blessings
You are showing to your mind that which fills everything
Even to an innocent simpleton who thinks about you, you show your mercy
I have given myself to you as slippers to your two flower like feet
