Goda Chathusloki

(I saw a pretty Sanskrit  stotra called  Godha Chathusloki  in the web .I wanted to translate it and I was searching  for a commentary on this great  stotra  all over the web .I could not get it .Then  as per directions of God  I approached Sri Vasu Iyengar , my scholarly  friend in face book. He promised  to search his archives  for the stotra  and its Tamil commentary,and within a few hours  he posted it in face book. For past several hours , I was struggling  to  write  the meaning  of the great prayer in my own words  and in my own style .I have taken the stotra in Sanskrit lipi from on line  , in tamil Lipi   from Sri  Vasu Iyengar’s posting.I am greatly indebted  to Sri Vasu Iyengar   for my this contribution .May God bless him)

अखिलात्म गुणावासम् अज्ञानतिमिरापहम् ।
आश्रितानांसुसरणम् वन्दे अनन्तार्यदेशिकम् ॥

அகிலாத்ம குணாவாஸம் அஜ்ஞாநதிமிராபஹம்|

ஆச்ரிதாநாம் ஸுசரணம் வந்தே அநந்தார்யதேசிகம்||

Akhilatmagunavasam ajnanatimirpaham

Asritanam susaranam vande Anantharyadesikam”

Repository  of all good qualities, who removes  the cataract of  ignorance

One who protects   his  disciples, I salute  that Guru  Ananthazhvan

Normally  this prayer  is chanted  before chanting  Godha Chathu sloki

चक्रे गोधा चतु श्लोकीं  यो वेदार्थ प्रकर्पिथं ,

श्री वेङ्कटेश सद् भक्थं  तं अनन्त गुरुं भजे 

 சக்ரே கோதாசதுச்லோகீம் யோ வேதார்த்த ப்ரகர்ப்பிதம்|

ஸ்ரீவேங்கடேச ஸத்பக்தம் தம் அநந்தகுரும் பஜே||

  

Chakre  Godha  Chathu slokim  yo vedartha  prakarpitham

Sri  Venkatesa  Sad Bhaktham tham  Anantha  Gurum Bhaje

I  salute  Anantha Guru, who was  a true devotee of  Lord Venkatesa

And who gave  us Godha Chathusloki, which has  with it  meaning of all Vedas

नित्याभूषा निगमशिरसां निस्समोत्तुङ्गवार्ता,

कान्तो यस्याः कचलुलितैःकामुको माल्यरत्नैः।

सूक्त्या यस्याः श्रुतिसुभगया सुप्रभाता धरित्री,

सैषा देवी सकलजननी सिञ्चतां मामपाङ्गैः ॥१॥

நித்யா பூஷா நிகம ஶிரஸாம் நிஸ் ஸமோத்துங்க வார்த்தா

காந்தோ யஸ்யா: கசவிலு லிதை: காமுகோ மால்ய ரத்நை: |

ஸூக்த்யா யஸ்யா: ஶ்ருதி ஸூபகயா ஸூப்ரபாதா தரித்ரீ

ஸைஷா தேவீ ஸகல ஜனனீ ஸிஞ்சதாம் மாமபாங்கை

Nithyabooshaa , nigama sirasaa nissamothunga  vaarthaa

Kantho yasyaa kacha lulithao kamuko malya rathnai

Sookthyaa  yasyaa sruthi subhagayaa suprabathaa darithri

Saishaa  devi  sakala janani sinchathaam mamapangai 

Her work which has  no comparison is  the Ornament forever and the  top of the Vedas  

Her  consort  is cloud like  , pleasing,  and is a  lover of  garland  of gems,

Her poems  are the pleasing  and  make a pleasing  morning  to  the earth,

That   goddess  is the  mother of us all , should  make me wet  by her rain of nectar.

माता चेत्तुलसी पिता यदि तव श्रीविष्णुचित्तो महान्,

भ्राता चेद्यतिशेखरः प्रियतमः श्रीरङ्गधामा यदि।

ज्ञातारस्तनयाः त्वदुक्तिसरसस्तन्येन संवर्धिताः,

गोदा देवि! कथं त्वमन्यसुलभा साधारणा श्रीरसि ॥२॥

மாதா சேத் துலஸீ பிதாயதி தவ ஸ்ரீ விஷ்ணு சித்தோ மஹாந்

ப்ராத சேத் யதி ஶேகர ப்ரியதம ஸ்ரீரங்க தாமா யதி |

ஜ்ஞாதார ஸ்தனயாஸ் த்வதுக்தி ஸரஸ ஸ்தன்யேன ஸம்வர்த்திதா:

கோதா தேவி கதம் த்வம் அந்யஸூலபா ஸாதாரணா ஸ்ரீரஸி ||

Mathaa  chethulasi pithaa  yadhi  sri Vishnu  chitho mahan

Brathaa chedhyathi  shekara priyathama sri Ranga dhama  yadhi

Jnanthara  sthanayaa thwaf  ukthi    sarasa  sthanyena samavardhithaa

Goda  Devi   kadham  thwamanya  sulabhaa saadharana   sri rasi

கல்பாதௌ ஹரிணாஸ்வயம் ஜனஹிதம் த்ருஷ்ட்வைவ ஸர்வாத்மநாம்

ப்ரோக்தம் ஸ்வஸ்ய ச கீர்த்தனம் பிரபதனம் ஸ்வஸ்மை பிரஸூ நார்ப்பணம் |

ஸர்வேஷாம் ப்ரகடம் விதாது மனிஶம் ஸ்ரீதந்வி நவ்யே புரே

ஜாதாம் வைதிக விஷ்ணு சித்த தநயாம் கோதாம் உதாராம் ஸ்துமே: ||

Your mother is Goddess  Thulasi and father  the great Vishnu Chitha

Your brother the great sage Ramanuja and your darling  is Lord Ranga Nadha

Your works are   your sons, you grew up drinking  nectar  as breast milk,

Oh Goddess Godha, how can you be got easily by others, like the ordinary wealth

कल्पादौ हरिणा स्वयं जनहितं दृष्ट्वैव सर्वात्मनां,

प्रोक्तं स्वस्य च कीर्तनं प्रपदनं स्वस्मै प्रसूनार्पणम्।

सर्वेषां प्रकटं विधातुमनिशं श्रीधन्विनव्ये पुरे,

जातां वैदिकविष्णुचित्ततनयां गोदामुदारां स्तुमः ॥३॥

கல்பாதௌ ஹரிணாஸ்வயம் ஜனஹிதம் த்ருஷ்ட்வைவ ஸர்வாத்மநாம்

ப்ரோக்தம் ஸ்வஸ்ய ச கீர்த்தனம் பிரபதனம் ஸ்வஸ்மை பிரஸூ நார்ப்பணம் |

ஸர்வேஷாம் ப்ரகடம் விதாது மனிஶம் ஸ்ரீதந்வி நவ்யே புரே

ஜாதாம் வைதிக விஷ்ணு சித்த தநயாம் கோதாம் உதாராம் ஸ்துமே: ||

Kalpaadhou  harinaa swayam  janahitham drushtwaiya sarvathmanam,

Proktham swasya cha keerthanam  prapadhanam swasmai  prasoona aarpanam

Sarveshaam prakatam  vidathu manisam sri dhanvinavyaye pure

Jaathaam  vaidhika  Vishnu  Chitha  thanayaam  godhaam udharam   sthuma

Lord Vishnu taking in to  account  the welfare of people  at end of  Kalpa(eons)

Directed  people for worshipping him by  singing  , depending on him and offering  flowers to him,

And  for making  these  known to all  for all time , I  praise Godha   who was  born as  ,

Daughter   of the great vedic   scholar  of Vishnu  Chitha of  Srivilliputhur

आकूतस्य परिष्क्रियामनुपमामासेचनं चक्षुषोः,

आनन्दस्य परंपरामनुगुणामारामशैलेशितुः।

तद्दोर्मध्य किरीटकोटिघटित स्वोच्छिष्ट कस्तुरिका,

माल्यामोदसमेधितात्मविभवां गोदामुदारां स्तुमः॥४॥

ஆகூதஸ்ய பரிஷ்க்ரியாம் அநுபமாம் ஆசேஸநம் சக்ஷூஷோ:

ஆனந்தஸ்ய பரம்பராம் அநுகுணாம் ஆராம ஶைலேஶிது: |

தத்தோர்மத்ய க்ரீடகோடி கடித ஸ்வோச்சிஷ்ட கஸ்தூரிகா

மால்யாமோத ஸமேதிதாத்ம விபதாம் கோதாம் உதாராம் ஸ்துமே: ||

AAkoothasya   parishkriyaam anupamaam   aasechanam  chakshusho

Aanandasya   paramparaam   anugunaam  aaraama saile sithu

Thaddhor madhye kireeta  koti ghatitha swochishta  kasthoorikaa

Maalyaa modha samedithaathma vibhavaam godhaam udhaaram   sthuma

With a wish  to   improve his  incomparable  acts and  to grant happiness to his  eyes,

She  who was fit to his clan and  who offered  to  perfumed  garland , with musk  worn by her

To the lord  of  garden mountain   ,who was  wearing  crown with crores of gems

And made  him extremely  happy   with the  offering  of her  soul  and I pray  to that generous  Godha.
