Naraayaneeya Mahathmyam - The greatness of Narayaneeyam

Naraayaneeya Mahathmyam - The greatness of Narayaneeyam

Translated by

P.R. Ramachander

(The photos of all pages of this great book with malayalam meaning was forwarded to me by Smt Kalamalini Sundararajan who has posted the entire Narayaneeyam in Sanskrit and English in her web site https://www.bhaktisulabham.com/ with a request to translate it into English.

This book was given to her through Ms Bharathi Mahadevan, by her teacher Smt Indira Pillai. She received this book on Narayaneeyam Mahathmyam through Mr. Mithanapalli, friend of her brother-in-law Mr Shankara pillai aka Vijayan, who used to give Bhagawatham discourse in Sri Padmanabhaswamy temple.

Ever since she has been teaching her students the Mahathmyam and passing it on to more audiences. My humble pranams to Indira Pillai.

I would make special mention of thanks   to Smt.Kalamalini  Sundararajan forediting it  and making it without  mistakes

You can also hear it https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLnaI_o8vg7AuNIIQZqaDLn3K2xEOn0ut-

In the opening page of the book, below the title, it is written:

Goloka nadham, natha parijatham

Go gopa gopi nayanabja suram

Nana vibhooshaa pari bhooshithangam

Namami Krishnam, karuna payodhim

The lord of Goloka, the divine flower of devotees

The god of cows, cow herds and cowherd women

He who has decorated all his limbs in various ways

I salute that Krishna, the milky ocean of mercy.

There are three chapters in the book. In the first chapter Lord Narayana tells sage vyasa that a summarized bhagawatham is needed, so that people can read with in a day. The next chapter deals in detail how this new work should be taught, third chapter tells us how to chant it.

The manuscript of this book was located by Venkata Achuthan Nambudhiri. Later, it was read and reread. This is supposed to be originally written by sage Kausthsa. He wanted to know how people in kali yuga would be able to hear Maha Bhagawatham and asked his guru Angeeras and wanted to know whether there was any possibility of reading Maha Bhagawatham in one day. Then Angeeeras told him that same question was asked by some sages to Sage Sutha and he told them that answer was given by Lord Vishnu himself to sage Vyasa.
