Prayer  to Lord  Ganapathi

நற்றவம் செய்தே நங்கையாய்ப் பிறந்தேன்
கற்றவர் பலருள் கருவியாய் இயங்கியே
பற்றற்று இருந்து ( சிவ)சக்தியைப் பாடிட
நற்றுணையாய் வா நர்த்தன கணபதி

 

Nathavam  cheithe  nangayai  piranthen

Kathravar   palarul  karuviyai  iyangiye

Pathru atthu  irunthu  Shiva sakthiyai  paadida

Nathrunaai vaa  Narthana  Ganapathi

 

By doing great penance, I was  born as a girl,

By working   as a  tool  within very many learned people,

I lived   without attachments to sing about  Shiva Sakthi

Oh  Dancing Ganesa  , please  come to help me.

மனமெலாம் உந்தன் நினைவிலே இருந்தவென்
கனவிலே தோன்றி நீ பாடவே பணித்தாய்
இனமிலா இன்பமே அடைந்த என் உள்ளத்தில்
நனவிலும் நின்றிடு அருள் சிவ கலையே

 

Manamellam  undhan  ninaivile  irunthaven

Kanavile  thondri  nee padave  panithaai

Inayilaa  inbame  adaintha  yen ullathil

Nanavilum nindridu, arul  shiva kalaye

 

When  my mind was  full  of thoughts  about you.

You appeared in my dream and ordered  me to sing,

In my mind which attained  limitless  joy,

Oh crescent of Shiva  please  stand in my realty  also

கலைமகள் அலைமகள் சாமரம் வீசிட
மலைமகள் லலிதை நீ நளினமாய் அமர்ந்திட
மலையுறை ஈசனும் மலருறை அயனும்
அலைகடல் அரங்கனும் களிப்பினில் மூழ்கவே 1

 

Kalaimagal  , alaimagal chamaram veesida

Malai magal  lalithai nee  nalinamai amrnthida

Malayurai  eesanum , malar urai  ayanum

Alai kadal  aranganumkalippinil  moozhkave

With   Goddess  saraswathi   and goddess Lakshmi  waving  the fan,

With you Lalitha daughter of mountain  sitting  elegantly

The god who lives  on mountain  and the Brahma  living on flower

And  Lord Vishnu  of the ocean of waves   drowning  in joy.1

மூழ்கிய மலைதனை முதுகினில் தாங்கிய
ஆழ்கடல் அனந்தனின் அழகிய சோதரி
ஏழ்கடல் நடுங்கிடச்செய்திட்ட அசுரரை
வீழ்ந்திடச்செய்த ஸ்ரீ லலிதா தேவியே 2

 

Moozhkiya  malai  thanai  muthukinil  thaangiya

Aazhkadal   ananthanin   azhakiya  sodhari

Yezkadal  nadankida cheithitta   asurarai

Veezhnthida  cheitha  sri  Lalitha   deviye

 

The pretty sister of  the God Vishnu  of deep sea,

Who lifted on his back , the mountain which  drowned

Oh  Goddess Lalitha who made  fall    the  Rakshasas,

Who made   the seven oceans   shiver

தேவி நின் திருவடி அடைந்தே இப்பார்
மேவிய தேவரும் நலம் பல பெற்றனர்
காவியத்தளைவியாம் காமாட்சி அம்மையே
ஓவியந்தனிலே உமையே படைத்தேன் 3

 

Devi  nin  thiruvadi   adainthe  yippar

Meviya devarum  nalam pala  pethranar

Kaviya  thalaiviyaam  kamakshi  ammaye

Oviyam thanile   umaye padaithen

 

Oh Goddess  , only by attaining your   feet , all,

Devas of this world got very many  good things

Oh mother Kamakshi  , who is the lady of the epics

I only drew you  in that  painting

படைக்கும் பிரமனுக்கும் காக்கும் மாலுக்கும்
கிடைக்காச்சோதியாய் மலைதனில் ஒளிர்ந்து
விடைக்கண் மேவிய விமலன் தேவி நின்
கடைக்கண் அருளை அடைந்தனர் பலரே 4

 

Padaikkum  brahmanukkum  kaakkum maalukkum

Kidaikkaa chothiyai , malai   thanil olirnthu

Vidaikkan  kan meviya  vimalan devi  , nin

Kadaikkan  arulai   adainthanar  palare

 

Oh   wife   of the pure one   who shined  ,

As a mountain, the answers of question ,

Were not got by  the  Lord Brahma,

Who crates and  Lord Vishnu   who protects

பலவாகி ஒன்றாகி ஒன்றுக்குள் அணுவாகி
அலகிலா அழகுடை அபிராமி வல்லியே
நிலமிசை வாழ்ந்திட்ட அபிராமி பட்டர்க்கு
நிலவிலா நாளிலே நிலவினைக்காட்டினாய் 5

 

Palavaaki  , ondraaki , ondrukkul   anu vaaki

Alakilaa azhagudai    Abhirami  valliye

Nilamisai  vaazhnthitta Abhirama bhattarkku

Nilavilaa naalile  nilavai  kaattinai

 

Oh  Goddess  Abhirami  who was one  , who was many

Who was atom inside one and who had  incomparable  beauty

To Abhirama Bhattar   who lived  on this earth,

You showed the moon on a  day when moon  was not there.

காட்டிய மதியினை ஒத்த முகத்தினள்
தீட்டிடும் மையினை ஒத்த குழலினள்
ஊட்டிய அமுதை உண்ட சம்பந்தர்
ஈட்டினர் இறையருள் இசைந்து பாடவே 6

 

Kaattiya  madhiyinai  otha mukhathinal

Theettidum  mayyinai   otha  kuzhalinal

OOttiya  amuthai  unda   sambandar

Eettinaar  irai arul isainthu  paadave

 

She who has  face like  the moon she showed

She who has hair of the black colur of the ochre  she applies

Sambandar   who drank  the nectar  given by her

Managed to get  God’s blessing   to compose  and sing

கூடல் மாநகர் கோவின் பாவாய்
கோடல் முத்தினைக் குருபரர்க்கு அளித்த
ஆடல் அழகியே அங்கயர்க் கண்ணியே 7

 

Padal vallavar  koodum  moothoor

Koodal maanagar   kovin paavaai

Kodal muthinai  guru parakku  alitha

Aaadal  azhakiye  , angayar   kanniye

 

The very old city where  great poets join together

Oh daughter of king  of the  city of that Madurai

Oh pretty queen who gave  the pure gem                                                       

To kumara gurupara, oh pretty dancer, oh one with fish like eyes

கண்ணின் மணியே மணியின் ஒளியே
விண்ணில் பறந்த வீரமாகாளியே
மண்ணை உண்ட கண்ணனின் சோதரி
எண்ணும்போதே என்னுள் உறைவாய் 8

 

Kannin maniye  , maniyin oliye

Vinnil parantha  veera  maakaliye

Mannai unda   kannanin  sodhari

Yennum pothe   yennul uraivai

 

Oh gem of my eye, Oh light of that gem ,

Oh valorous  Maha Kali  who flew  on the sky

Oh sister  of lord   Krishna  who ate  the mud,

Please  come and live in me , when I think about you

உறைபனி நிறைந்திடும் மலைதனில் உறையும்
பிறைமதி அணிந்த பெம்மான் தேவியே
நிறைமணி விழாவினை விரும்பிடும் அன்னையே
குறைதனைத்தீர்த்திடும் குமரி நங்கையே 9

 

Urai pani   nirainthidum   malai   thanil  urayum

Pirai  mathi anintha  pemman  deviye

Nirai  mani   vizhavinai virumbidum   annaye

Kurai  thanai   theerthidum  kumari nangaye

 

Oh  wife  of our great god  who wore  the moon’s crescent

And lived  on the mountain  which was  covered  with snow

Oh mother who liked  celebrations of completing of  years

Oh  lady who was a maid who   fulfills  our wants

நங்கையின் நயனங்கள் நல்கும் அன்பினால்
பொங்கிடும் மங்களம் எங்கும் திண்ணமே
கங்கையைத்தரித்திடும் ஈசனின் சிவையே
பங்கயச்செல்வி நின் பதமலர் பணிந்தேன் 10

 

Nangayin nayanangal  nalgum   anbinaal

Pongidum   mangalam    yengum thinname

Gangayai darithidum   eesanin   sivaye

Pangaya  chelvi  nin pada malar  paninthen

 

Due to the love that  ebbs  out of love  from eyes of a lady

Auspiciousness  would overflow and this is definite

Oh Sivaa  of the God who wears  ganges on his head

Oh  lotus  girl, I am saluting your feet

பணிந்தே பெற்றனன் மந்திர உபதேசம்
துணிந்தே உண்டனன் ஆலால விடந்தனை
தணிந்தே நிறுத்தினை விடந்தனைக்கண்டத்தில்
பணிந்தே ஏத்துவர் பலரும் நின் அடியினை 11

 

Panintha pethranan  manthira  upadesam

Thuninthe  undanan  aallala   vidam   thannai

Thaninthe niruthinai   vidam thanai  kandathil

Paninthe  yethuvar  palarum  nin adiyinai

 

He saluted  her and learnt  the chanting  of manthras

And with great  courage he ate   the halahala  poison

And she became cool and stopped  that poison on his neck,

Your feet would be bowed to ,  to be praised  by very many

அடியேன் துயருறும் நேரத்தில் எல்லாம்
கடிதினில் வந்தெமைக்காத்திடும் ஈஸ்வரி
இடியென இன்னல்கள் வந்திடும் போழ்திலும்
வடிவுடை நாயகி காத்தே அருள்வாய் 12

 

Adiyen thuyar urum  nerathil  yellam

Kadithinil   vanthu yemai  kaathidum   easwari

Idiyena   innalkal  vanthidum  pozhthilum

Vadi vudai  nayaki  , kaathe   arulvaai

 

At all times   when I get  in to sorrow

Oh goddess  who rushes  there  and protects me

Even troubles   come  like  thunder

Oh Vadivudai nayaki(pretty goddess) , please  protect

அருள்மழை பொழிந்திடும் அகிலாண்ட நாயகி
கருணைமழை பொழிந்திடும் காமாட்சி தேவியே
ஞானமழை பொழிந்திடும் சரஸ்வதி தேவியே
கனகமழை பொழிந்திடும் லட்சுமியும் நீயே 13

 

Arul  mazhai  pozhinthidum  akhilanda  nayaki

Karunai  pozhinthidum   kamakshi  deviye

Jnana  mazhai  pozhinthidum saraswathi   deviye

Kanaka mazhai  pozhinthidum  Lakshmiyum neeye

 

Oh goddess of universe  who rains  blessings

Oh Goddess  Kamakshi   who showers  mercy

Oh Goddess  Saraswathi who rains  knowledge

You are also  goddess Lakshmi  who rains Gold

நீயே கதியென நினைத்திடும்போதே
தாயே வந்து நீ தயைபுரிந்திடுவாய்
சேயேன் எனை நீ மறந்தே விடினும்
ஓயேன் உந்தன் மலரடி துதிப்பதை 14

 

Neeye gathiyena  ninaithidum  pothe

Thaaye   vanthu   nee  dhayai  purinthiduvai

Seyen  yenai   nee  maranthu vidinum

Oyen undhan  malaradi  thudhippathai

 

When I think you are  my only   support

Oh mother you will come and show your kindness

Even when you forget  that  this your son,

I will not cease to praise your  flower like feet

துதி செய்திடவே (குரு) சங்கரர் அமைத்த
பதியாம் கொல்லூர் அதனில் பாயும்
நதியாம் சௌபர்ணிகைக் கரையில்
மதியென ஒளிர் மூகாம்பிகைத்தாயே 15

 

Thuthi cheithidave  (guru)  sankarar  amaitha,

Pathiyaam kollur , athanil  paayum

Nadhiyaam sauparnikai  karayil

Mathiyena   olir  Mookambikai  thaaye

 

Kollur is the town established by guru  Sankara

To pray and on the shore  of Sauparnika  river,

Which flows   through that city

Oh mother  Mookambika  ,  shine  like moon

தாயாய் வந்தே தரிசனம் தந்தாய்
மாயாப்பிறவியை மாய்த்திடச்ச்செய்வாய்
சேயாய்ப்பிறந்தாய் இமயமலையிலே
பேயாய்த்திரிவோரை அடக்கிடவேன்றே 16

 

Thaayai vanthe  darisanam   thanthai

Maayaa  piraviyai ,, mainthida  cheivai

Cheyai  piranthai  imaya  malayile

Peyai   thirivorai  adakkida  vendre

 

You came as mother and showed yourself

You would   make  this birth of illusion   to disappear

You were born as a baby  in Himalayas

For subduing    those  who were wandering as ghosts

 

வென்றிடும் எண்ணத்தில் வந்த அசுரரைக்
கொன்றே குவித்தாய் குவலயந்தனிலே
நன்றியாய் தேவரும் பூமாரி பொழிந்திட
குன்றினில் அமர்ந்தாய் சாமுண்டி அன்னையே 17

 

Vendridum yennathil   vantha  asurarai

Kondre kuvithai   kuvalayam   thanile

Nandriyai   devarun  poomaari  pozhinthida

Kundrinil   amarnthai   Chamundi  deviye

 

In the world, you killed   and heaped ,

Those Rakshasas  who came   with hope of winning

When the devas with gratefulness caused a rain of flowers

Oh Goddess  Chamundi  , you sat  on the  hill

அன்னை பராசக்தி அருளுள்ளம் கொண்டுநீ
தென்னைகமுகு நிறை தஞ்சை நகரிலே
புன்னை நல்லுரிலே பொலிவுடன் அமர்ந்தே
என்னை ரட்சிப்பாய் முத்து மாரியே 18

 

Annai parasakthi , arul ullam kondu nee,

Thennai , kamuku  nirai  thanjai  nagarile

Punnai nalloorile  polivudan amarnthe

Yennai   rakshippai   muthu maariye

 

Oh mother  Parasakthi  , taking merciful   heart towards us

In thanjavur town full  of coconut and arecanut trees

Sitting   majestically  in Punnainallur

Please protect me , Oh goddess Muthu mari

மாரியே பொய்ப்பினும் தான் என்றும் பொய்யாது
வாரியே வழங்கிடும் வண்டார் குழலியே
காரிருள் தன்னிலும் காத்திடும் நீயே
தேரினில் வருவாய் கருமாரி அம்மையே 19

 

Mariye poippinum thaan yendrum poyyathu

Vaariye  vazhankidum  vandaar  kuzhaliye

Kaarirul thhannilum  kaathidum  neeye

Therinil  varuvai  Karumari   ammaye

 

Oh goddess  over whose hair  bees fly, even if  rains fail

Without failing   , you  give  in heaps and heaps

Oh goddess  who protects us  even in pitch darkness

Oh  mother  Karumari, please come  in a chariot

அம்மையே என்று அழைத்திடும் போதிலே
வெம்மை நோயையும் தணிந்திடச்செய்வாய்
செம்மை நிறம் தனை விரும்பிடும் தேவியே
உம்மை என்றுமே உறுதியாய்ப் பற்றினேன் 20

Vemmai noyayum   thaninthida  cheivai

Chemmai niram   thanai  virumbidum   deviye

Ummai   yendrume   uruthiyai   pathrinen

 

When we   call you “Oh mother”

You would   cool down even diseases  of heat

Oh goddess  who likes  the   colour  red

I have caught  hold   of  you  tightly

பற்றிடும் வேளையில் பகலவனாய் வந்து
சுற்றமும் சுகமாய் வாழ்ந்த்திடச்செய்வாய்
கற்றிடும் யாவர்க்கும் கல்வியைக்கொடுத்திடு
நற்றமிழ் வாணியே லலித கலா மயிலே 21

 

Pathridum  velayil   pakalavanaai  vanthu

Chutramum  sukhamai  vaazhnthida   cheivai

Kathridum   yaavarkkum   kalviyai  koduthidu

Nathramizh vaaniye, Lalitha kalaa   mayile

 

When we  get tied  to you, you will come as sun

And make  us and our  relations live comfortably

Please grant education   to all those   who learn

Mayilapuri urai  Mangayarkkarasiye

Oyilai varuvai  Karpaka  valliye

 

After  being born as peacock and doing worship

You married   the God   who lives  in Kailasa

Oh queen among ladies of town of  Mylapore

Oh Karpakavalli  , please come  with majesty

வல்வினை நல்வினை ஆக்கிடும் தேவியே
மெல்லிடை மங்கையே தண்மதி அணிந்தே
கல்லினுட் தேரைக்கும் கனிவாய் அமுதூட்டும்
செல்வி நின் கருணைக்கு எல்லை இல்லையே 23

 

Valvinai  nalvinai    aakkidum  deviye

Mellidai  mangaye, than mathi aninthe

Kallinut   therikkum   kanivai  amudhu oottum

Chelvi   nin karunaikku    yellai  yillaye

 

Oh Goddess who converts  bad   fate in to   good fate

Oh Girl with thin hips,   wearing the cool moon

You ,who feed   the fungus inside  the stone with mercy

Oh lass, there  is no end to your  kindness

எல்லை இல்லாத எழில் மிகு ஈஸ்வரி
வில்லையொத்த புருவமுள்ளவள்
தில்லைக்கூத்தனின் சிவகாம சுந்தரி

Yellai  yillatha  yezhil  migu  Easwari

Villayotha  puruvamullaval

Thillai  koothanin  Shivakama Sundari

Nellayil  vaazh  kanthimathiye

 

Oh goddess  with a beauty that  does not have limit

You who have  eye brows  like  bows

Are  the  Shivakamasundari of he   who dances in Chidambaram

And  you the Kanthimathi  who lives  in Thirunelveli

மதியணி பிரானின் மனங்குளிர் நாயகி
பதியுடன் ரிடபத்தில் பவனி வரும் உனை
கதியென நினைக்கும் மானிடர் பலரின்
விதியினை வென்றிட வேகமாய் வருவாய் 25

 

Mathiyani  piraanin  manam kulir  Nayaki

Pathiyudan  ridabathil  bhavani  varum  unnai

Gathiyena  ninaikkum  maanidar  palarin

Vidhiyinai   vendrida   vegamaai   varuvai

 

Oh  Goddess  who makes the mind of  the lord who wears the cool moon, cooler

For the very many men who think  that  you,

Who  travel with your husband on the  bull is their  savior

Please come quickly  to win over   their fate

 

வருவதை அறியாது வாடிடும் போது
கருவியாய் வந்தே அதனைக்களைவாய்
குருவாய் விளங்கும் குகனின் தாயே
திருவாய் மலர்ந்தே திறனை அளிப்பாய் 26

 

Varuvathai  ariyaathu  vaadidum  pothu

Karuviyai  vanthe  athanai  kalivai

Guruvai vilangum  guhanin  thaaye

Thiruvai  malarnthe  thiranai  alippai

 

When we  fade  without  knowing what  is coming

Please  come as an instrument   and throw  that out

Oh mother  of lord   Guha who  came as our Guru

Please open your divine mouth and grand us ability

அளித்திடு எந்தனுக்கு ஆன்ம சக்தியை
களித்திடச்செய்திடும் நீயே நிலமாய்
வெளியாய் காற்றாய் நீராய் நெருப்பாய்
ஒளிர்வாய் ஒளியினைத் தந்திடுவாயே 27

 

Alithidu yenthanukku    aanma  sakthiyai

Kalithida   cheithidum  neeye  nilama

Veliyai  , kaathrai  , neerai  , neruppai

Olirvai  , oliyinai  thanthiduvaaye

 

Please grant me  the power  of the soul

You  make us happy  , you yourself  please come as,

Earth , sky , wind  , water  as well as  fire

Please shine and give us light

தந்தேன் அபயம் என்றே உரைத்து
வந்தே அருகினில் அமர்ந்து விடம்மா
கந்தன் கணபதி அன்புத்தாயே
உந்தன் புகழை இயம்புதல் இயலுமோ 28

Kandhan  ganapathi   anbu thaaye

Unthan  pugazhai   iyambuthal  iyalumo

 

After  telling me  , I have  given   you protection

Please   come  near  me  and please  sit down

Oh dear   mother  of  Skanda  and Ganesa

Will I be able  to tell   about   your fame

 

இயலாச்செயலையும் இயக்கிடச்செய்து உன்
தயவால் தருமமே தழைத்திடச்செய்தாய்
அயலார் வந்தெமை எதிர்த்திடும்போதே
புயலாய் அவர் தமை விரட்டியே விடுவாய் 29

 

Yiyalaa  cheyalayum   iyangida  cheithu un,

Dhayavaal dharumame   thazhaithida    cheithai

Ayalaar   vanthemai   yethirthidum pothe

Puyalaai  avar thamai   virattiye

 

By making  impossible   things  possible,

By your kindness please greatly nurture  dharma

When outsiders come   and oppose me

Become  a storm and  drive them away

விடு விடு விடுவென விரட்டிடுவோரையும்
சிடு சிடு சிடுவேனச்சீரிடுவோரையும்
கடு கடு கடுவென கர்ஜிப்போரையும்
நடு நடு நடுங்காமல் காத்திடு காளியே 30

 

Vidu vidu  vidu yena virattiduvorayum

Chidu chidu chidu yena cheeriduvorayum

Kadu kadu kadu   yena Garjipporayum\

Nadu nadu  nadungaamal   kaathidu   Kaaliye

 

Those who drive us   with all vigour

Those  who with  great  anger shout at us

And those  who roar us with great  hatred

Oh Kali please protect us from shivering oh Kali

Yaaliyin meethe  amarnthe  varuvai\

Kolili yemperumaan  Deviye

THaalinen pathinen Dhaya  Pariye

 

You are  the primeval Sakthi  in the form of Kali

You would sit  on the Yaali   and come

Oh Goddess of the God  without  any planets

Oh Merciful one  , I have caught your feet

பரிதனை நரியாக்கி நரிதனை பரியாக்கிய
விரிசடையோனின் வியன்மிகு நாயகி
திரிபுர சுந்தரி திவ்யஸ்வரூபிணி
கரிமுகத்தோனின் அன்னை பராசக்தி 32

 

Pari thanai nariyaakki , nari thanai pariyaakkiya

Viri chadayonin, viyan migu  Naayaki

Tripura sundari, dhivya swaroopini

Kari mukatthonin annai   Parasakthi

 

You are  the wonderful wife of God with open  tuft,

Who made horses in to fox and foxes in to horses

Oh beauty of three  cities who has  a divine  form

Oh Divine Sakthi who is mother of Elephant faced God

சக்தியின் மலரடி சத்தியமாய்ப்பணிய
பக்தியும் பெருகிடும் பாவமும் விலகிடும்
முக்தியே கிடைத்திடும் மும்மலம் அகன்றிடும்
யுக்தியே வேண்டாம் சத்தியம் நம்பினேன் 33

 

Sakthiyin malaradi sathiyamai paniya

Bakthiyum  perukidum Paavamum  Vilakidum

Mukthiye   kidaithidum , mummalam  Akandridum

Yukthiye vendaam  , Sathiyam  Nambinen

 

If we truly  bow before the  flower like feet of Sakthi

Devotion will increase   and sins will go away

We will get salvation, Three   defects would go away

There is no need for any tricks, This is the truth, which I believe

நம்புவோர் அனைவரும் நற்கதி பெறுவர்
தும்புரு நாரதர் தேவரும் பணிந்ததால்
கொம்புடை மகிஷனைக் கொன்றே அழித்தனை
சம்புவின் சிவை மகிஷாசுர மர்த்தினி 34

Dumburu naradar devarum paninthathaal

திடமுடன் அவ்வூனினைப் படைத்தனன்
கடவுளும் அதனை அன்புடன் ஏற்றனர்
கடமை மறந்தனன் வீடும் துறந்தனன்50

அருகிலே வந்து திண்ணனும் கண்டான்

To complete  the action which he has  decided,

The lord of Kalahasthi  shed  blood  from  his eye

And Thinnan  came  near  and saw it

And tried  to stop the greatly  flowing blood

பார்க்கும் வேளையில் குருதி நில்லாமையால்
யார்க்கும் தோன்றா மதியினால் தான்
பார்க்க இருக்கும் (தன) கண்கள் தனையே
வார்க்க அம்பினால் குத்தியே எடுத்தான்53

At   the time when he saw since blood flow did not stop

 With   an idea   which no one would have thought in his brain

With   the arrow  of his  , he  took out,

His own eyes   that  which he used to see things

எடுத்த கண்ணினை ஈசர்க்கு அப்பினான்
கொடுத்த கண்ணினால் குருதியும் நின்றது
அடுத்த கண்ணினில் குருதியைக்கண்ட தன
அடுத்த கண்ணையும் எடுக்க முயன்றான்54

And the blood stopped due to the  eye that he gave

And then  seeing  blood in the other eye, he

Tried to take  out his other  eye also

முயன்ற வேளையில் ஈசரும் அவனை
இயன்றதற்கு மேல் செய்தனை நீயென
வியந்தே நில்லு கண்ணப்ப என்றே
இயம்பிடத் திண்ணனும் கண்ணினைப்பெற்றான் 55

Viyanthe  nillu  Kannappa   yendre

Iyambida   thinnanum  kannai pethran

 

When he was trying, god told him,

You have done things  beyond your  possibility

And with wonder he told  “stop Kannappa”

And when he told  that, THinna   got  back his eye

கண்ணினைப் பெற்ற திண்ணன் வேடனும்
கண்ணப்பர் ஆயினர் இத்தலந்தனிலே
விண்ணோர் கூறும் பஞ்சபூதங்களுள்
ஒண்ணாய் விளங்கிடும் வாயு இத்தலமே56

The hunter  THinna who got back his eye

Became  Kannappa , in this place

And this place  became  the place of Wind

AS per what  the devas  in heaven tell

இத்தலந்தனிலே முக்திபெற விழைந்த்திட்ட
அததியும் சிலந்தியும் காலமாம் பாம்பும்
எத்தினமும் ஈசனைக் காக்க எண்ணி
நித்தியப் பூசையால் முக்தியும் பெற்றன57

In this place, the elephant   , spider  and

Thought   of protecting   the   God forever

By doing daily   worship and they   got salvation

முக்தி தந்திடும் பலப்பல தலங்களுள்
சக்தி பீடத்தில் ஒன்றாய் விளங்கிடும்
பக்தி மனதுடன் பலரும் வந்தே
சக்தியை வழிபடும் தலம் மாங்காடே58

There  are  very many places   that give us salvatiom

That place  which is one  of Sakthi peedas

And where  very many people  come with devoted mind

And   worship  the Goddess  Sakthi  is the place Maangaadu

மாமரங்களடர்ந்த மாங்காட்டினிலே
காமனை அழித்த ஈசனின் நாயகி
வாமனன் நாரணன் நலம் மிகு சோதரி
சோமனை அடையவே தவமியற்றினளே59

Is it possible  to describe the great  penance  that she  did,,

By effort    she  lit  the   five types  of  fire

And in the fire which was blowing like a storm

She who had passionate eye  , stood on her  fingers

விரலினால் நின்றே இயற்றிய தவத்தினை
அரவணி பிரானும் பார்த்தே மகிழ்ந்து
விரைவில் செல்வாய் காஞ்சி மாநகர்க்கென
அரனும் பணித்திடச் சென்றனள் கஞ்சிக்கே61

Aravani  piraanum  paarthe magizhndhu\

Viravil chelvai  kanchi maanagarkkena

Aranum  paninthida, chendranal  kaanchikke

 

The God who wears the snake saw the penance ,

Done   by standing on a finger    and became  happy

And that Lord Shiva  ordered her   to go  with speed,

To the city  of Kanchipuram and she  went to Kanchi

கஞ்சி மாநகர் கவின்மிகு மூதூர்
கொஞ்சும் அழகுடன் ஒளிர்ந்திடும் ஓரூர்
பஞ்ச பூதங்களுள் பூமித்தலமாம்
நெஞ்சையள்ளும் பழம்பெரு நகரே62

 

Kanchi maa nagar , kavin migu  moothoor

Konjum azhakudan olirnthidum   oar  oor

Pancha  bhoothangalukkul  , bhoomi thalamaam

Nenjayullum    pazham   peru  nagare

 

The city of Kanchi  is a very pretty and ancient  town

It is  a city which shines with great lisping  beauty

It is the place  of earth among the five  elements
It is a  old  big city which attracts   your mind

நகரேஷு காஞ்சியென காளிதாசன் புகழ்ந்த
நகரினில் வந்தே மாமரத்தடியினில்
நிகரிலாத் தவந்தனை பின்னும் தொடர்ந்ததை
பகரவே விழைந்து நினைத்தேன் மனதினில்  63

 

Nakareshu  Kanchi yena  kalidasan pugazhntha

Nagarimil vanthe  , maa marathu   adiyinil

Nigarilaa thavathinai pinnum thodanthathai

Pakarave  vizhainthu  ninaithen   manathinil

 

Reaching the town which    was praised  by poet Kalidasa

As “ Among cities the  Kanchi” , she sat below a nango tree

And continued   again the  penance  which had no equal

And I desired   to tell about   it , in my mind

மனதினில் திடமுடன் ஈசனை மணக்கவே
சினமது இன்றியே சிவபக்தியினால்
கனமிலா மணலால் லிங்கமே அமைத்து
தினமும் பூஜையை அன்புடன் செய்தனள்64

 

Manathi dhidamudan   eesanai  manakkave

Chinamathu  indriye , shiva  bhathiyinaal

Ghanam illaa  manalaal   lingame  amaithu

Dhinamum   poojayai   anbudan  cheithanal

 

With a firm mind   , to marry lord Shiva

Without anger , due to devotion to Lord Shiva

Making  a shiva Linga  with light   sand

With love  she daily  did the worship.

செய்த பூஜையில் மகிழ்ந்த ஈசனும்
பொய்கை நீரையே வெள்ளமாக்கினார்
செய்வதறியாது தவித்திடும் வேளையில்
உய்விக்க வந்தார் ஏகாம்பரனார்65

 

Cheitha poojayil ,magizhntha   eesanum

Poigai  neeraye   , vellamaakkinaar

Cheivathu ariyaathu   thavithidum  velayil

Uyvikka  vanthar ekambaranaar.

 

The god  who was greatly  pleased with  the  worship done by her

Made   the pond   water  in to a great  flood

And at the time she was  not knowing what to do,

For saving  her , Lord Ekambaranatha came

ஏகாம்பரனார் எழிலுடன் வந்தே
ஏகாந்தமாய் நின்ற காமாட்சி தேவியை
பாகாய்க் கரையும் பரிவுடன் அன்பாய்
லோகாம்பிகையை மணமே புரிந்தார்66

Yekanthamai  nindra kamakshi deviyai

Paakai  karayum parivudan anbaai

Lokambikayai maname purinthaar

 

Lord Ekambara  coming in a handsome way

Saw Goddess  Kamakshi who was  standing alone

And with pity that  melts  , with love

Married  the  mother of the world

புவிதனில் ஷண்மதம் அமைத்த சங்கரர்
கவிகள் பலருடன் வாதம் புரிந்தவர்
கவின்மிகு சங்கரமடம்தனை அமைத்ததை
நவிலுதல் இங்கே அவசியம் அன்றோ67

குணமதில் குளிர்ச்சியைப் பெற்றவளாகியே
கணமதில் கருணையைப் பொழிந்திடும் தாயே
ருணமதைத் தீர்த்தே வைத்திடுவாயே69

 

Ganapathi meethu   nee konda   anbinaal

Gunamathil  kulirchiyai  pethravalaakiye

KaNamathil karunayai  pozhinthidum THaaye

Runam athai   theerthe  vaithiduvaaye

 

Due to great affection   that you had   with Ganapathi

In your conduct you got to  became cool,

And became a mother who showers mercy  in a second

And you would   see to it that  our liabilities  get over

Lord nataraja danced   in the  divine temple

He who wears a  serpent which has opened  hood

The  darling Shivakami  of the god with dancing feet

By doing only good to those who approach her

Is like the one who protects the  crop that  is wilting

Would put an end of problems of  devotees  who crowd there

தீயாய் நின்றான் அண்ணாமலையில்
சேயாய் எண்ணியே மக்களைக்காத்திடும்
தாயாம் உண்ணாமலையம்மையுடன்73

The   fire is also  an element  among the five elements

And in Annamalai  he stood as  fire

Along  with mother  Unnamulai who,

Protects  her devotes like her  own child

மருவும் மலையில் உலவும் முனிவர்கள்
குருவாய் அமர்ந்தனர் பலரும் என்றுமே75

In the thiruvannamalai which  has divinity,

To get blessing of Guru which never  dies

In the mountain we go , in the mountain of flame

The Ramanasrama which showers  its blessing

On those who go there, like the mother cow   seeing its calf

ஈஸ்வரனின் அங்கமாய் அமைந்த
ஈஸ்வரியின் புதல்வாராய்ப் பிறந்தோர்

There is nothing called  hermitage there

There   those  born there as sons  to the goddess

Are  part of   the God himself

And are leading  the hermitage  life

வாழ்வினில் பலவிதம் கண்ட அருணகிரி
பாழ்மனம் சஞ்சலம் அடைந்தபின் கீழே
வீழ்ந்திட இருந்தோனைக் காத்த முருகன்
ஆழ்ந்த ஞானத்தை அளித்தனன் அவர்க்கே78

Arunagiri  who had seen many   aspects of life

When his useless mind started moving down, And he

Who was  about to fall down was saved by  Muruga

And gave  him very  deep   wisdom

அளித்த ஞானத்தால் அருமையாய்ப் பாடினார்
தெளிந்த பக்தியால் பரவசமடைந்து
களித்து மகிழவே திருப்புகழ் தனையே
கிளியாய் அமர்ந்தார் கோபுர வாயிலில்79

He  sang    extrement   with wisdom  blessed  on him

He became  completely  immersed by the  clear  devotion

And for others to become happy and joyous,

He sat as  a parrot on the door  of temple tower and sang Thirupugazh

வாவென அழைத்திடும் போதே வந்து
காவெனக் கூப்பிடும் போதே காத்து
மாவேனக்கதரிடும் கன்றினையோத்த
சேய் எனக்கருவாய் திரிபுர சுந்தரி80

Coming immediately   when I call you “come”

Protecting me   when  I call you  “please protect”

Oh Triprasundari please bless  me your child

Who is like  the calf  which calls its  “mother”

திருவாரூர் வாழ் கமலாம்பிகையே
திருக்கருகாவூர் கர்ப்ப ரக்ஷாம்பிகையே
திருவையாற்றில் தர்மசம்வர்த்தினி

Oh Garbha  Rakshambika  who  lives in Thirukarukavur

Of Dharma  Samvardhini   of  THiruvayuru

And mother  Lalithabika of Thirumeychoor

அம்பிகை கௌரியும் கடுந்தவம் இயற்றிய
செம்மலை கொண்ட திருச்செங்கோட்டில்
நம்பிரான் நங்கையைப் பாகமாய்க் கொண்டே
உம்பரும் போற்றவே சைவச்க்தியானார்82

Umbarum  pothave  Saiva   sakthiyaanaar

 

When mother  Gauri  did  severe penance ,

In Thiruchengodu where  there is a red mountain

The Lord made  the  Goddess   as  his part

And became  Shiva Sakthi , with praise  of devas

சக்தியும் சிவனும் ஒன்றாய் இணைந்ததால்
சக்தியைப் பாடுங்கால் சிவனையும் பாடவே
சக்தியே தந்தது ஞானசக்தி அச்
சக்தியே நித்தமும் மக்களைக் காக்கும்83

 

Sakthiyum ,  shivanum  ondraai inainthathaal

Sakthiyai paadum kaal , Shivanayum  paadave

Sakthiye  thanthathu jnana sakthi

Achakthiye nithamum makkalai   kaakkum

 

Due to the merging of God Shiva and Goddess  Sakthi

When you sing about Sakthi, we have to sing about Shiva also

And Goddess Sakthi herself gave that  power  of knowledge

And  that  Sakthi only protects the  people daily

காக்கும் கடவுளர் அம்மையப்பனின்
நோக்கும் விழியினால் நோய்கள் அகன்றிடும்
தாக்கும் தாக்குதல் தன்மை நீங்கிடும்
வாக்கில் வளத்துடன் வன்மை அளித்திடும்84

Nokkum vizhikalaal , noikal  agandridum

Thaakkum thakkuthal   thanmai  neengidum

Vaakkil  valathudan  vanmai alithidum

 

The mother  father God are the  Gods who protect

And just  by the seeing by their eyes , disease  will go away

The nature of hurting by that which causes  the hurt  would  go away

Apart  from power  of the speech, it would also give   strength

அருணன் இந்திரன் அம்புலி குபேரன்
வருணன் அனைவரும் வணங்கிடும் அன்னை
தருணம் வரும் வரை தயங்கி நிற்காமல்
கருணை உள்ளத்தால் காத்திடுவாயே85

Varunan  anaivarum   vanangidum   annai

THarunam varum varai  thangi  nirkkamal

Karunai ullathinaal  kaathiduvaaye

 

The mother  who is saluted by all the Lords Aruna,

Indra , moon , Khubera varuna   and  others
Without hesitating for   the   chance  to come

Please protect  by your merciful  heart

காத்திடும் கடவுளர் ஒன்றேயாயினும்
நேத்திரத்தாற்கண்டு பரவசமடைந்து
தோத்திரம் செய்து புண்ணியம் பெறவே
க்ஷேத்திரம் பலவும் தொன்றியதன்றோ86

 

Kaathidum  kadavular  ondre aayinum

Netherathaar  kandu  paravasam   adainthu

Thothiram   cheithu  punniyam  perave

Kshethiram  palavum thondriyathandro

 

Though all   the gods  who protect us  are the same

Seeing them by the eye ,we  attain ecstasy

Pray to them  and get  blessings

Did not all  the temples    take  shape?

தோற்றம் அளித்திடும் ஈசனின் தலங்களில்
நாற்றம் மிகவுடை மலர்களால் அர்ச்சித்தே
மாற்றம் மனதினில் மிகுதியாய்ப் பெற்றே
ஏற்றம் பெறுவது மிகையிலை திண்ணமே87

Naathram  migavudai  malarkalaal   archithe

Maatham   manathinil  miguthiyaai  pethre

Yethram  peruvathu  migayillai  , thinname

 

In the  places   where  gods   have appeared,

Worshipping   by flowers   with great  perfume

And by  great   changes in the mind,

Getting great progress is not exaggeration but definite

திண்ணமாய் இதனை நம்புவோர்க்கு முக்
கண்ணுடை ஈசனும் காமாட்சி அன்னையும்
எண்ணிலா நலன்களை இன்பமாய் நல்கியே
மண்ணினில் வாழவே செய்வர் வரத்தால்88

 

THinnamai  ithanai  nambuvorkku  , mukkanudai

EEsanum  , Kamakshi   annayum

Yennilaa  nalankalai inbamai   nalgiye

Manninil   vaazhave   cheivar  varathaal

 

To the people who have strong   faith in this

The three  eyed  God   and mother  Kamakshi

Would  sweetly   give limitless  good things

And make them live on this earth  by their boons

வரமதால் புவிதனில் இறைவனின் புதல்வராய்
பரமதில் பரவிய அறுபத்து மூவரும்
சிரமதில் கங்கையைக் கொண்ட ஒருவனே
பரமென எண்ணியே அப்பனைப் பாடினர்89

 

Varam athaal puvi thanil  iraivanin pudhalvaraai

Paramathil  paraviya   arupathu moovarum

Siramathil   gangayai  konda  oruvane

Param   yendru   yenniye   appanai  Paadinar

 

Due to boon of  being born as   sons of God

And spread all over  the heaven are   the sixty three  saints

And they   sang about Appar   thinking that

The God carrying ganges    is the  only divine one

அப்பரும் பாடினார் அரனைப் போற்றியே
செப்பரும் தமிழிலே இசைநயத்துடன்
முப்புரம் எரித்த சிவனைப் பாடிட
அப்புரமமைந்த அம்மையும் அருளினள்90

Chepparum   thamizhile   , isai  nayathudan

Muppuram   yeritha  sivanai paadida

Appuram  amaitha  ammayum arulinaal

 

Appar also song praising that  goddess

In tamil beyond description with  musical quality

And that mother  who had  made the city  ,

Also told him to sing about  Lord shiva who burnt the  three  cities

அன்று தடுத்தாட் கொளப்பட்ட சுந்தரர்
நின்று பாடினார் திருவொற்றியூர் தனில்
கொன்றை அணிந்த பிரானின் சந்நிதியில்
நன்று மணம் புரிந்தார் சங்கிலி தனையே91

 

Andru thaduthu  aatkolla  petta   sundarar

Nindru paadinaar  thiruvothiyoor   thanil                         

Kondrai  anintha  piraanin  sannidhiyil

Nandru  manam purinthar  Sangili  thanaye

 

That Sundara  who was greatly  influenced on that day,

Sang standing  in Thiruvothiyur

In  front of the temple   of Lord who wore kondrai (cassia) flower

And he got well tied  by the chains

சங்காபிஷேகம் தனை விரும்பிடும் நாயகன்
கங்கையணிந்தவன் புகழைப் பாடினார்
மங்காப் புகழெய்திய மணிவாசகரும்
செங்கலும் உருகிடும் திருவாசகந்தனை92

 

Sankhabhishekam  thanai  virumbidum naayakan

Gangai   aninthavan pugazhai  padinaar

Mangaa  pugazh yeithiya  maanikka vaasagarum

Chenkallum  urugidum   Thiru vachakam  thannai

 

Maninkka  Vasagar  who had attained  never fading fame

Also sang fame of the  lord who liked abisheka  with conch

And who   wore   ganges  on his head

In Thiruvachakam which will even melt the  brick

தனக்கமுதூட்டியதாரேன் தந்தை வினவ
எனக்கமுதூட்டியது தோடுடைய செவியன் என
மனக்களிப்புடன் பாடிய சம்பந்தர்
தினம் தினம் ஈசனைப் பாடியே மகிழ்ந்தார்93

 

THanakku  amudhoottiya thu aar, yendru  thanthai vinava,

Yenakku amuthoottiyathu thodudaya  cheviyan yena

Manakalippudan  paadiya  sambandhar

Dhinam  dhinam   eesanai  paadiye  magizhnthaar

 

When his father  asked him , who fed you

“The lord Shiva who wears  the studs  did it”

Said Sambandar said  with  extreme  joy

And he daily  sang about   the God and became happy

பாடுவர் ஆடுவர் பரமனை அடையவே
நாடுவர் அவனது இணையடி நீழலே
தேடுவர் அவனிடம் ஞானத்தைப் பெறவே
கூடுவர்  கோயிலில் தம் வினை தீரவே94

 

Paaduvar , aaduvar  paramanai  adayave

Naaduvar  avanathu  inayadi  nizhale

Theduvar    avanidam jnathai  perave

Kooduvaar   koyilil   tham  vinai  theerave

 

They will  sing and dance  to reach  lord Shiva

They will wish for the shade of the shadow  of his feet

They will search in him to get  the wisdom

And they  will assemble  in the temple so that their  fate  gets vanished

தீராப் பசியினைத்தீர்த்திடும் எண்ணத்தில்
தாராளமாய் அளித்திடும் அன்னத்தை
ஏராளமாய் கோயிலில் வழங்கியே
பேரானந்தம் அடைந்திடுவார்களே95

 

Theeraa  pasiyinai theerthidum  , yennathil

Daralamai alithidum  annathai

Yeraalamai koyilil   vazhangiye

Peraanandam adainthidu vaargale?

 

With a thought  satiating hunger  which never gets satiated,

By giving  large   quantities  of cooked rice

In the temple  again in large  quantities

They would attain   extremely  great joy

வாழ்வினில் வளம்பெற எண்ணுவோர் கோயிலில்
தாழ்மையுடன் பல தொண்டுகள் செய்து
ஊழ்வினை தீர்ந்து உய்வும் பெற்று
ஏழ்மையும் நீங்கி எழிலுடன் விளங்குவர்96

 

Vaazhvinil  valam pera   yennuvor  koilil

Thaazhmayudan  pala  thondukal  cheithu

Oozhvinai  theernthu  uyuvum  pethru

Yezhmayum neengi  yezhiludan vilanguvar

 

After performing several  services   with humility

In the temple where  people think of becoming prosperous

Getting rid of the   fate and  becoming prosperous,

They would get rid of poverty and  would  stay attractive

விளக்கினை எரித்திட எண்ணையும் நல்கி
விளக்கமாய் ஆன்மிக நல்லுரையாற்றி
குளத்தினை எப்போதும் தூய்மையாய் வைத்தே
வளத்துடன் நீடூழி வாழ்வார் வையத்துள்97

 

Vilakkinai   yerithida  , yennayum  nalgi

Vilakkamai  aanmeega  nallurai  aathri

Kulathinai   yeppothum thooymayai  vaithe

Valathudan needoozhi   vaazhvaar  vaiyathul

 

After giving oil so  that  lamp gets lit

After giving spiritual good talks in clear  terms

And after  keeping   the pond   always neat

They would lead a prosperous life in this world

வைகறை நீராடி நல்லாடை உடுத்தி
மெய்யில் முழுவதும் திருநீறு பூசி
கையில் கற்பூரம் பூ பழம் கொண்டு
ஐயன் இணையடி தொழுதிடச்செல்வோம்98

 

Vaikarai  neeraadi , nalladai  uduthi

Meyyil muzhuthum   thiru  neeru poosi

Kayyil   karpooram  poo pazham kondu

Iyyan   inayadi  thozhithida selvom

 

After  taking bath at  sun rise, wearing good cloths

Applying  sacred  ash  all  over  the body

Taking camphor  and fruits in hands

We would go  to salute  the feet of the God

செல்வம் நற்குணம் திருவருள் பெற்று
கல்வி கேள்விகளில் திறமையும் பெற்று
நல்லோர் பலரின் ஆசியும் பெற்றே
பல்லாண்டு பல்லாண்டு புவிதனில் வாழ்க99

 

Selvam , nar gunam , thiruvarul  pethru

Kalvi kelvigalil  thiramayum pethru

Nallor palarin   aasiyum  pethre

Pallandu  pallandu puvi thanil  vaazhga

 

Getting wealth , good conduct  and blessing of god

After  getting greatness in education  and fame                                             

And after getting  the blessings of good many people

Please  live in this earth   for very many years
