English Translation of Malayalam Stotras and Krithis
By
P.R.Ramachander
Malayalam
is spoken by people of Kerala .They all
believe cleanliness is next only to Godliness , whatever the religion may belong
The
Hindus in Kerala are spread all over the state .The major communities are Brahmins, Ambalavasis, Nairs and Menons,
Ezhavas, Panikkara, Ezhuthachans etc
Most of
them have been trained to have a morning
bath, go to temple in wet cloths and wear
sandal wood mark .They also have been trained to daily chant the names of God in the dusk(sandhya
namam) .Due to this they are greatly attached to their temples, You will rarely find a dilapidated temple in Kerala .During the local temple
festivals , Vishu, and onam festivals ,
rivers of people would flow to kerala
The
most popular gods are Lord
Guruvayurappan, Lord ayyappan and
various goddesses (bhagwathi)
The
bakthi movement in Malayalam was possibly started by Thunjathu Ezhuthachan and carried forward
by Poonthanam and Bilwa mangalathu
Samiyar
Most of the keralites with great devotion chant the malyalam prayers and get immersed in them
Being born in Kerala and deicated to guruvayurappan , I get immersed in Malayalam Prayers .
Unlike
prayers there are very few
Malayalam Carnatic composers
