(Krishnagatha (Malayalam: കൃഷ്ണഗാഥ) is a 15th-century poem written in Malayalam language; It is also known as Krishnapattu. it belongs to the poetic form Gatha. The author of the poem is believed to be Cherusseri Namboothiriwho lived in Cherusseri near Vadakara in Kerala, India. It deals with the story of Krishna)

 

 

കാർവർണ്ണൻതന്നുടെ കോമളപാദങ്ങൾ

കാളിയന്മേനിയിലേല്ക്കുന്നേരം

വമ്പുറ്റുനിന്നൊരു വങ്കുന്നു വന്നിട്ടു

തങ്കലേ വീഴുന്നൂതെന്നു തോന്നി.

 

Kaar  varnan  thannude  komala  paadhangal

Kaliyan  meniyil  yelkkunneram

Vambuthu  ninnoru vankunnu  vannittu

THangale   Veezhunnathennu  thonni

 

The pretty feet of one who is the  colour of black cloud

When it was  hitting   the  body  of Kaliya

He felt that a huge  mountain  coming

From a huge anthill  was falling on him

 

വീരനായുള്ളോരു കാളിയൻവായീന്നു

ചോര ചൊരിഞ്ഞുതുടങ്ങീതപ്പോൾ.

ക്ഷീണനായ് നിന്നങ്ങു കേണു തുടങ്ങിനാൻ

പ്രാണങ്ങൾ പോവോളമായിക്കൂടി.

 

Veeranaayulloru  kaliyan vaayennu

Chora  chorinju   thundangeethappol

Ksheenanaai ninnangu  kenu  thudanginaan

Pranam povolamaai  koodi

 

When  blood started  flowing like rain   from  ,

The  mouth of  the valorous  Kaliya,

He became tired and started begging

And felt as if his soul was  going from him

 

വേദങ്ങളുള്ളിലെക്കാതലായ് നിന്നുള്ള

പാദങ്ങൾ തങ്കലങ്ങേല്ക്കയാലെ

ദുർമ്മദം പോയങ്ങു നിർമ്മലനായ് വന്നാൻ

കല്മഷം നീങ്ങിനാലെന്നു ഞായം.

 

Vedangalullile  kathalai  ninnulla

Paadhangal   thangal   yelkkayaale

Durmadham  poyangu nirmalanai  vannan

Kalmasham neenginaalennu  jnaayam

 

Due  the feet which   are  most strong

Part  of Vedas hitting  his  body

The bad pride  went away and he became pure,

There  is a theory  that  the dirt  has been removed

 

ആരിതെന്നിങ്ങനെ പാരാതെ ചിന്തിച്ചു

നാരായണൻതാനെന്നുള്ളിൽ നണ്ണി

പാദങ്ങൾ കുമ്പിട്ടു "പാലിച്ചുകൊള്ളേണം

വേദത്തിൻ കാതലേ!" എന്നുചൊന്നാൻ

 

AArithengine paaraathe  chinthichu

Narayanan  thaan  yennu  ullil  nanni

Paadhangal  kumbittu,”palichu  kollenam,

Vedathin Kaathale”   yennu chonnan

 

Without seeing  , he thought , who is like this

And  within his mind  thought  it is nArayana himself

He saluted the feet and said, “Please  protect me,

, The strongest  part of Vedas”

 

കാളിയൻതന്നുടെ കാമിനിമാരെല്ലാം

ബാലകന്മാരെയും കൊണ്ടുവന്നു

കേശവൻതന്നുടെ പാദങ്ങൾ കുമ്പിട്ടു

കേണുതുടങ്ങിനാർ വീണു ചെമ്മേ.

 

Kaliyan thande  Kaminimaarellam

Balakanmaareyum  kondu vannu

Kesavan thannnude paadhangal kumbittu

Kenu thudanginaar   veenu chemme

 

The  wives  of  Kaliya

Along  with   the children

Saluted  the feet of Kesava

Started  crying and fell down

 

എന്നതു കണ്ടൊരു കാർവർണ്ണൻ ചൊല്ലിനാൻ:

"ഇന്നിലം കൈവിട്ടുപോകണം നീ."

കാളിയന്താനുമാക്കാർവർണ്ണൻതന്നോടു

ലാളിച്ചുചൊല്ലിനാനെന്നനേരം:

 

Yennathu kandoru  kaar  varnnan chollinaan

Innilam  kai vittu  pokanam  nee

Kaliyan thaanum aa  kar varnnan thannodu

Laalichu  chollinaan    anneram

Seeing  that  The black coloured  one told

You have to leave  this  place  and go

Then Kaiyan  told  that  black coloured one.

With  love  in his voice  at  tha time

 

"എങ്ങളെക്കാണുമ്പോൾ കൊന്നുടനന്നേരം

തിന്നുമുടിക്കുമേ വൈനതേയൻ

എന്നുള്ള പേടികൊണ്ടിന്നിലംതന്നിലേ

എങ്ങൾവസിക്കുന്നു തമ്പുരാനെ.

 

Yengale  kaanumbol  konnudanneram

THinnu  mudikkume   Vaina  theyan

Yennulla  pedi kondu ee nilam thannile

Yengal  vasikkunnu   Thamburane

 

If  Lord Garuda  sees us  , he  will,

Kill us   and eat  all of us

Due  to this fear, we are,

Living  in this land . oh lord

 

സൗരഭിയായൊരു മാമുനിതന്നുടെ

ശാപംകൊണ്ടിങ്ങവൻ വാരായിന്നും."

കാളിയനിങ്ങനെ ചൊന്നതു കേട്ടൊരു

കാർമുകിൽവർണ്ണനും ചൊന്നാനപ്പോൾ:

 

SAurabhi  yaayoru  maamuni  thannude

Saapam  koningavan  Vaaraayinnum”

Kaliyan  ingane  chonnathu  kettoru

Karmukhil  varnanum   chonnan  appol

 

Due  the curse  of a sage  called,

SAurabhi  , he will not come here”

Hearing  what  kaliyan  told

He who is of colour  of blaxk  cloud told then

 

"എന്നുടെ പാദംകൊണ്ടങ്കിതനാം നിന്നെ

വന്നിനിത്തീണ്ടുമോ വൈനതേയൻ?

വൈരിയായുള്ളൊരു വൈനതേയന്തന്നെ

വൈകാതെ ചെന്നിന്നു കണ്ടാലും നീ."

 

“Yennude  paadham  kondu   ankhithanaaam ninne

Vannu ini  theendumo, Vainatheyan?

Vairiyayulloru   Vainatheyan  thanne

Vaikaathe   chennu innu  Kandaalum nee”

“Will Garuda  ever touch you  , who

Has  been  ornamented  by my feet,

Now Garuda  is not your enemy,

Without  delay  , go and see  him mtoday”

 

എന്നതു കേട്ടൊരു പന്നഗവീരന്താൻ

നന്ദകുമാരനെക്കുമ്പിട്ടുടൻ

ഉത്തമമായുള്ള രത്നങ്ങളെക്കൊണ്ടും

മുത്തുകളെക്കൊണ്ടും പൂജിച്ചപ്പോൾ

 

Yennathu  kettoru  pannaga  veeran thaan

Nanda  kumarane  kumbittudan

Uthamamaaya   rathnangale  kondum

Muthukkale  kondum  poojichappol

 

Hearing that  the  serpent hero

After  saluting   The son of Nanda

Did worship    with good quality gems

And   with  pearls and then

 

മശ്ധവിലോചനന്‍തന്നെയും തന്നുടെ

മസ്തകംതന്നിലെടുത്തു മെല്ലെ

 പാദങ്ങഠം കുമ്പിട്ട്‌ , ഖേദം  കൈ വിട്ടു

പഠലിച്ചുകൊള്ളേണമെന്നു ചൊന്നാൻ

 

Mathsya  vilochanan   thanneyum  thannude

Masthakam   thannil yeduthu melle,

Padhangal  kumbittu  , khedam kaivittu

Paalichu  kollenam  yennu chonnan

 

He  took  the fish eyed  Krishna.

On his hood and lifted him slowly

Saluted his feet , left his sorrow

And told him  , look after  me.
