Harihara Abedha sthuthi

This great Stotra    was composed when  the great savant  went to  Chidambaram Nataraja temple , where from a particular  point you can see  God Govindaraja as well Lord Nataraja, In this stotra in every verse  he praises lOrd Shiva as well as Lord Vishnu

DikShita - also known as VakShasthalacharya who was in  the court of Shri Krishnadevaraya. Appayya was an   endearing form of his real name, Vinayaka Subramaniam.  The 16th century AD, in South India was an age of confusion  when begotry and vigorous proselytism were rampant. Persecution of one sect by  another with the help of the ruling dynasties  was quite common. In such an age, the need was felt for a  rare scholar with comprehensive vision and imagination, whose missin life would be the reconciliation of the various creeds,  cults and philosophies. Shri Appayya DikShita filled this essential  need. He was a peace maker who pleade for harmony, tolera nce and mutual  goodwill and understanding at a time when people were  quarrelling among themselves as to who was superior Vishnu or Shiva. मारमणमुमारमणं फणधरतल्पं फणाधराकल्पम् ।

मुरमथनं पुरमथनं वन्दे बाणारिमसमबाणारिम् ॥ १॥

மாரமணமுமாரமணம் ப²ணத⁴ரதல்பம் ப²ணாத⁴ராகல்பம் ।

முரமத²னம் புரமத²னம் வந்தே³ பா³ணாரிமஸமபா³ணாரிம் ॥ 1॥

Maaramanam umaramanam  phana dara  Thalpam   phana dharaa kalpam,

Mura madhanam  pura madhanam  vandhe  banaari masamabanaarim.

Consort of  Mahalakshmi , Consort of Parvathi  , sleeping on Adhi sesha , wearing  Adhisesha .

Killer of Mura , destroyer  of tripura , salutations to  enemy of Bana, enemy of Kama.

गोनयनमिलानयनं रविशशिनेत्रं रवीन्दुवह्न्यक्षम् ।

स्मरतनयं गुहतनयं वन्दे वैकुण्डमुडुपतिचूडम् ॥ २॥

கோ³னயனமிலானயனம் ரவிஶஶினேத்ரம் ரவீந்து³வஹ்ன்யக்ஷம் ।

ஸ்மரதனயம் கு³ஹதனயம் வந்தே³ வைகுண்ட³முடு³பதிசூட³ம் ॥ 2॥

Gonayanamilaanayanam  ravi sasi nethram   raveendhu vahnyaksham,

Smara thanayam  , guha thanayam  vandhe  Vaikunda mudupathi choodam

He who is a cowherd , he who rides on a bull, he    who has  sun and moon as eyes, He who has sun, moon   and fire as eyes,

He whose son  is  Manmatha, He whose   son is Subrhamanya  salutations   to him     whose name is Vaikunta , he who wears   the moon.

कृष्णतनुमुमार्धतनुं श्वशुरगृहस्थं सुमेरुशृङ्गस्थम् ।

दशवपुषं वसुवपुषं वन्दे भूजानिमखिलभूपालम् ॥ ३॥

க்ருʼஷ்ணதனுமுமார்த⁴தனும் ஶ்வஶுரக்³ருʼஹஸ்த²ம் ஸுமேருஶ்ருʼங்க³ஸ்த²ம் ।

த³ஶவபுஷம் வஸுவபுஷம் வந்தே³ பூ⁴ஜானிமகி²லபூ⁴பாலம் ॥ 3॥

Krishna  thanum , umardha  thanum  swasura  grahastham , sumeru srangastham,

Dasa  Vapusham , vasu vapusham  Vandhe bhoojanimikhila bhoo paalam.

He who has a black body  , He whose half body is Uma, He who lives in his father in law's home , He who lives  on top of the  mountain,

He who took ten bodies , He who has  eight  vasus as  bodies I salute   consort  of Bhoodevi  and who both protect  all the three worlds.

कुध्रधरमुदग्निधरं जलधिसुताकान्तमगजाकान्तम्।

गरुडस्थं वृषभस्थं वन्दे पञ्चास्त्रमखिलदिग्वस्त्रम् ॥ ४॥

குத்⁴ரத⁴ரமுத³க்³னித⁴ரம் ஜலதி⁴ஸுதாகாந்தமக³ஜாகாந்தம்।

க³ருட³ஸ்த²ம் வ்ருʼஷப⁴ஸ்த²ம் வந்தே³ பஞ்சாஸ்த்ரமகி²லதி³க்³வஸ்த்ரம் ॥ 4॥

Kudhramudhagni dharam   jaladhi   suthaa kaantha magakaa kantham,

Garudastham  , Vrushabastham  vandhe   pancha rathna  makhilaadhigvasthram

He   who holds the  axe, he who is armed with an axe, he whose   wife was bon in ocean of milk, He whose wife is daughter  of the mountain ,

He who rides  on Garuda , He who rides on a bull  salutations to God who holds   five weapons and he who holds    eight directions

ब्रह्मसुतमृगातिनुतं गजगिरिवासं गजेन्द्रचर्माङ्गम्।

सुरशरणं हरिशरणं वन्दे भूदारमखिलभूदारम् ॥ ५॥

ப்³ரஹ்மஸுதம்ருʼகா³தினுதம் க³ஜகி³ரிவாஸம் க³ஜேந்த்³ரசர்மாங்க³ம்।

ஸுரஶரணம் ஹரிஶரணம் வந்தே³ பூ⁴தா³ரமகி²லபூ⁴தா³ரம் ॥ 5॥

Brahma  sutha mrugaathi thanum  , gaja giri vaasam  , Gajendra  charmaangam,

Sura  saranam  Hari saranam  vandhe  boodhaara , makhila  bhoodaram.

He whose son is Brahma, he who is praised by Vedas, He who lives on elephant  mountain,  He who wears hide  of king   of elephants,

He   who is the protector of devas, He protects  Hari salutations to he who lifts the earth and He who is the  lord   of the entire universe.

पार्थसखमुपात्तमखं जलधरकान्तिं जलन्धरारातिम्।

विधितनयं गुहतनयं वन्दे नीलेशमखिलभूतेशम् ॥ ६ ॥

பார்த²ஸக²முபாத்தமக²ம் ஜலத⁴ரகாந்திம் ஜலந்த⁴ராராதிம்।

விதி⁴தனயம் கு³ஹதனயம் வந்தே³ நீலேஶமகி²லபூ⁴தேஶம் ॥ 6 ॥

Partha sakhamupatha makham  jala dhara  kanthim  jalandharaaraathim,

Vidhi thanayam  guha thannayam vandhe  neelesa makhila bhoothesam

He who is friend  of Arjuna, He who destroyed  Yaga of Daksha, he whop shines like a cloud, He who killed Jalandharasura

He whose sin is Brahma, he whose son is Guha, salutations to Lord of Neela and  who are   the lord of universe.

पीतपटमरुणजटं परिमलदेहं पवित्रभूत्यङ्गम्।

जलजकरं डमरुकरं वन्दे योगस्थमखिलयोगीड्यम् ॥ ७॥

பீதபடமருணஜடம் பரிமலதே³ஹம் பவித்ரபூ⁴த்யங்க³ம்।

ஜலஜகரம் ட³மருகரம் வந்தே³ யோக³ஸ்த²மகி²லயோகீ³ட்³யம் ॥ 7॥

Peetha  patamarunaa jatam   parimala deham , pavithra  bhoothyanagam,

Jalaja  Karam   Damaru karam  vandhe yogastham  Akhila  Yogeedyam.

He who wears yellow cloths  , He who has red tuft , He who has  scented body , He who is pure and Lord of bhoothas.

He who holds the conch, he who holds a drum,  Salutations  to him  who is in Yoga   and  worshipped by all yogis

चक्रकरमभयकरं मणिमयभूषं फणामणीभूषम्।

विधृतधनुं गिरिधनुषं वन्दे गोविन्दमनघगोवाहम् ॥ ८॥

சக்ரகரமப⁴யகரம் மணிமயபூ⁴ஷம் ப²ணாமணீபூ⁴ஷம்।

வித்⁴ருʼதத⁴னும் கி³ரித⁴னுஷம் வந்தே³ கோ³விந்த³மனக⁴கோ³வாஹம் ॥ 8॥

Chakrakaramabhayakaram  Manimaya bhoosham  phanaa mani bhoosham,

Vidrutha dhanum  giri Dhanusham  vandha   Govinda managha gadhob vaaham.

He holds  the wheel in his hand, He who grants protection by hand ,. He who wears  gem studded   dress, He who wears   snake stone

He who holds the bow, He who uses  mountain as bow Salutations   to He who loves  the cow  and he who goes on the bull.

वस्तां पिशङ्गं वसनं दिशो वा

गरुत्मता यातु ककुद्मता वा।

निद्रातु वा नृत्यतु वाऽधिरङ्गे

भेदो न मे स्यात्परमस्य धाम्नः ॥ ९॥

வஸ்தாம் பிஶங்க³ம் வஸனம் தி³ஶோ வா

க³ருத்மதா யாது ககுத்³மதா வா।

நித்³ராது வா ந்ருʼத்யது வாऽதி⁴ரங்கே³

பே⁴தோ³ ந மே ஸ்யாத்பரமஸ்ய தா⁴ம்ன: ॥ 9॥

Vasthaam   pisangam   vasanam  diso  vaa,

Garuthmathaa  Yathu   kakuthmadhaa   vaa,

Nidhrathu   vaa  nruthyathi  vaa adheerange  ,

Bodho   na  may  syaathparamasya  dhaagna

Whether  he wears yellow silk or the   directions themselves,

Whether   he travels on Garuda   or whether    he travels on a bull,

Whether   he is found sleeping    or found to be dancing ,

In my conscience  I do not have  Shiva and Vishnu as different .

॥ इति श्री अप्पय्यदीक्षितेन्द्रैः कृता हरिहराभेदस्तुतिः समाप्ता ॥

॥ இதி ஶ்ரீ அப்பய்யதீ³க்ஷிதேந்த்³ரை: க்ருʼதா ஹரிஹராபே⁴த³ஸ்துதி: ஸமாப்தா ॥

Ithi sri  Appayyadeekdsghithendrai   kruthaa   Hari hara Abedha  Sthuthi Samaptha

THus ends the Prayer  of no difference between  Shiva and Vishnu   which was written by  Sri Appayya deekshithar.
