Dasaratha mannanin –Velviyin Balanayi
Arasiyar eendranar-pudhalvar nalvarai
As as a result of Yaga conducted by king Dasaratha,
The queens gave birth to four sons
Rama, Lakshmana, Bharatha, Sathrugnan
Yendre peyarum ittu valarthaan
He named them as Rama, Lakshmana
Bharatha and Sathrugna and brought them up
Vasishtrai Guruvai kondu Nalvarum
Kalaikalil chiranthanar , guru kulam thannil
With sage Vasistha as Guru all the four
Became experts in arts in the Guru Kula
Kaushikan arasanin sabayinil vanthu
Ramanai Kettaan –arakkarai azhikka
Sage Kaushika came to the kings court
And asked for Rama to kill the Rakshasas
Aadhiyil arasan maanamum Kalangi
Iruthiyil Rama-Lakshmana sodarar
Iruvararai munivan Kaushikan poruppil
Kanakam chella-manamum isainthan
First the king’s mind was shattered
And the end , consented to send
Brothers Rama and Lakshmana to the forest
Under the care of the saghe Kaushika
Kanakam chendra sodarar iruvarum
Thadakai mudhalai arakkarai azhithanar
The brothers who went to forest
Destroyed Asuras like Thadaka
Akalikai saapam theerthaan Raman
Kallai kidanthaval-pennai yezhunthaal
Rama put an end to the curse suffered by Ahalya
She who was lying as stone, got up as a lady
Manam magizhntha -Kaushika munivan
Kumararai cherthanan –janakanin Sabhayil
The sage Kaushika who became happy
Made the lads enter Janaka’s court
Shivanin villai, murithaan Raman
Janaki thannai kaithalam pidithaan
Rama broke the bow of God shiva
And held the hand of Janaki
Mandarai cheitha-choozhchiyin vilaivai
Mani mudi thuranthaan-annal Raman
Due to bad trick player by Mandhara
Rama gave away the crown
Manaiviyum ilavalum-avanudan chera
Aayathamaakinar kanakam chella
With his wife and younger brother joining him
They became ready to go to the forest
Maravuri darithu, mananin aanayaal
Yellayai kadanthanar-sumandhiran theril
After wearing tree hide, as per order of the king
They crossed the border in chariot of Sumanthra
Gangai karayil -kandanar guhanai
Avanin anbil, karinthaan raman
They saw Guha on the banks of Ganges
And in his affection Rama melted
Naalvarudan nee chernthu aivar aanom
Yendre Guhanai thammudan cherthaan
Along with we four became five
Saying this Rama joined Guha with them
Makanin pirivaal manamum kalangi
Innuyir neethaan Dasaratha mannan
Getting mentally upset due to parting of the son
The king Dasaratha gave away his sweet soul
Pazhi chol yethra Bharathanum vanthaan
Annalai kandaan-Chithra koodathil
Bharatha who got the bad name , came
And saw his elder brother in Chithra koota
Avan manam magizha , Ramanum eenthaan
Padukai thannai ariyanai yera
To make him happy , Rama gavr,
His slippers to get in to the throne
Kanakam vantha , RavananThangai
Ramanin azhakil manamum mayanginaa
Ravana’s younger sister who came to forest
Lost her mind to the handsomeness of Rama
Arakkiyin azhakai chidaithaan lakkuvan
Valai yeduthu, aval naasiyai aruthan
Lakshmana destroyed the beauty of the Rakshasi
Taking his sword, he cut off her nose
Kopam konda soorpanakai aval
Pazhikku pazhi yena sabadam cheithaal
Soorpanaka, who became very angry, took an oath
For revenging the wrong committed to her
Annal Ravanan manathai
Keduthaal, sitayai kavara thittam vaguthaal
She spoiled the mind of her elder brother Ravana
And set up plan to steal sita
Maya maan yenave -maareechan vara
Lankai venthan kavarnthaan annaiyai
With Mareecha coming as the magical deer
The king of Lanka, stole the mother
Vaan vazhi chillum velayil thadutha
Paravai Jadayuvai, thaakkinaan arakkan
When the bird Jatayu stopped them
When they were going through sky,The Rakshasa attacked him
Sitayai thedi Ramanum Varave
Nadanthathai uraithaan Paravaikal venthan
When Rama came searching for Sita
The king of birds told him as to what happened
Thannuyir neetha avanai cherthaan
Amarar ulagil-Annal Raman
The great Rama made him who lost his life
Join the world of devas
Aaranyam thannil , alainthu thirinthanar
Seethayai thediya Rama Lakshmanar
In the forest wandered and Wandered
The Rama and Lakshmana who were searching Sita
Vanar veeran anmanai kandanar
Sugreevan than thozhamai pethranar
They saw Hanuman the monkey soldier
And got the friendship of Sugreeva
Than nilai uraithaan Sugreevanume
Valiyai kondrida udavaiyai naadinaan
Sugreeva explained his state of affairs
And sought their help to kill Vali
Annalum Valiyai vathaikka isainthaan
Valiyai porukku azhaikka panithaan
The Lord agreed to kill Vali,
And requested him to call Vali for war
Sahodarakal iruvarin poril Raman
Marainthu nindru yeithinan ambai
In the war between the btothers,
Rama hid himself and shot an arrow
Maithaan Vaiyai, alithaan ariyanai
Thozhamai konda sugreevanukke
He killed Vali , gave the throne
To Sugreeva who became his friend
Disaikal yengenum Sitayai thedi
Chendranar vanara veerarkal palarum
To all directions , searching Sita
Went many monkey warriors
Then disai nokki-anumanum chendraan
Raman alitha kanayaazhiyudan
To the south went Hanuman,
Along with signet ring given by rama
Ramanin namam cholliye, kadalai
Thaandi chendraan Vayu kumaran
Chanting the name of Rama, the son of wind god,\
Hanuman crossed the ocean and went
Lankayai adaintha hanumanum kandaan
Asoka vanathil Janaki annayayai
Hanuman who reached Lanka, saw
Mother Janaki in the asoka forest
Ramanin perumayai Anuman koora
Avalum alithaal chooda maniyai
When Hanuman told about greatness of rama
She gave him her head brooch
Ravanan sabaikku chendravan Vaali
THeeyai vaithanar, kodiya arakkar
Whhen he went to the court of Ravana
The cruel asuras set fire to his tail
Arakkar itta theeyinai konde,
Vaalaal yerithaan Lanka nagarai
Using the fire set up by the asuras
He burnt city of Lanka by his tail
Annalai kana Vaanil yezhunthaan
Kanden Sitayai, yendru uraithan
To see the lord , he rose up on the sky
And told him “I have seen Sita”
Magizhchi konda Ramanum Anumanai
Sitayil nilayai koora kettan
The Rama who became happy Asked Hanuman
To tell the state of affairs of Sita
AAra thazhuviya Annal Ramanin
Anbil Anuman moozhki thilaithaan
IN the love of Rama who hugged him tightly
Hanuman got drowned with joy
Sitayai meetkka por thaan vazhiyena
Raman iruthiyai mudivinai yeduthan
To save sita , war is the only option
In the end Rama took this decision
Nallavai uraithum thiruntha Annanai
Viduthu Ramanai chernthaan Veedanan
Leaving his brother who did not change ,
Even when Good was told Vibeeshana joined Rama
Vanara padayudan Anilum chernthu
Ramanukkaka amaithanar Sethuvai
Along with monkeys a squirrel also joined
And constructed the Sethu(bridge) for Rama
Akilam nadungave, porkkalam kandanar
Ramanin kanayil Dasa Mukan veezhnthaan
With world shivering they saw the battle field,
And by the arrow of Rama, the ten headed one fell
Arakkar kulame azhinthathu poril
Annal Ramanin dharmam vendrathu
The entire clan of Asuras got destroyed
And the Dharma of Lord Rama won
Ilankayin ariyanai veedanan yera
Vethri thirumakan Ayothi adainthaan
With Vibheeshaa getting throne of Lanka
The victorious divine prince reached Ayodhya
Devarkal, munivarkal, periyor choozha
Ariyanai anuman thaangi pidikka
Arasanai annal mani mudi darithaan
Bhuvanam muzhuthum Magizhchiyil thilaikka
Surrounded by devas , sages and elderly people
With Hanuman holding the throne
The lord wore the crown as the king
Making the entire world drown in joy
Ramanin Kadayai karuthudan oathum
Anaivarum peruvar nanmaikal palavum
All those who read the story of Rama ,
With its meaning would get many good things
Kalathai kadaintha Sathiyam ithuve
Vaazhiya Vaazhiya ivvavayyakam vazhiya
This is the truth tht has crossed the time
Long live, long live this earth long live’
