Using   the letters  like the letters  Namashivaya, for me

To tell  abbreviated  songs,

 let  ganesa as well as BHavani

 Arise in my mind and bless  me

From birth of Rama till marriage  with Sita

 

ராம: கௌசிகம் அன்வகாத் பதிமுனேர் வாசா வதீத் தாடகாம்

ஸத்ரம் தஸ்ய ரரக்ஷ தேன கதிதா: ஸுச்ராவதாஸ்தா: கதா:

கத்வாதோ மிதிலாம் விதாய த்ருஷதம் யோஷிந்மணிம் ஸந்முநே:

பங்க்த்வா தூர்ஜடி சாபமாப ரமணீம் ஸீதாபிதானாமபி ||

 

Rama kaushikam  anvagathpathi  muner  vaachaa  vadheeth  thadagaam

Sathram thasya rarakshathena gathithaa sushravadhasthaa  kadhaa

Gathwaa  tho   mithilaam  Vidhaya thrishatham yoshinmanim sath  mune

Pankhthwaa dhoorjati chapam   aapa    ramaneem  sithabhi dhanamapi

 

Rama accompanied sage  Kausika   and   as per his word  killed Thadaga

After  protecting  his fire sacrifice, he heard   well the stories from sage

They  went to Mithila, stepping on      gem like women   as perwords of sage

Then breaking the  heavy  bow, he   made   the pretty   Sita   ashis

 

2.பரசுராமரை வெல்வது முதல் சுக்ரீவ பட்டாபிஷேகம் வரை

From Victory over  Parasurama till crowning of  Sugreeva

 

ஸீதாயா: கரலாலனேன ஸ க்ருதி ஜித்வா முனிம் பார்கவம்

ஸாகேதம் தரஸா ப்ரவிச்ய ஜனனீம் ஆனந்தயன் மத்யமாம் |

ஆஸீத் யோ விபினே சதுர்தச ஸமா ரக்ஷன் முனீன் ஆனதான்

ரக்ஷஸ்ஸங்கம் அதாவதீத் அகடயத் ராஜ்யம் ச ஸூர்யாத்மஜே ||

 

Sithayaa  kara lalanena as  krithi jithwaa munim   Bhagavam

SAketham   sarasaa pravisya , jananim aanandayam  madhyamam

3.Aaseth yo  vipine  chathurdasa samaa  rakshan  muneen  aanathaan

Raksha  sangam  adha vadheeth   aghatayath   rajyam   cha    sooryathmaje

 

He caressed   the hands  of Sita as a job and won over  Parasurama

With pleasure  after  entering Ayodhya he drowned his m mother  in joy

He came to the  forest for fourteen years  protected  the sages due to that

For protecting   his group  he killed   and gave country to son of  Sun God

 

3.அநுமன் தூது செல்வது முதல் ராவண வதம் வரை

From going of Hanuman as messanger till killing of Hanuman

 

வாயோராத்ம புவா ததோ ஹநூமதா பாதோதி பார ஸ்திதாம்

ப்ராணேப்யோபி கரீயஸீம் ப்ரியதமாம் விஜ்ஞாய ரக்ஷோ ஹ்ருதாம் |

ஸேதும் வாரிநிதௌ விதாய விவிதானந்தாக வித்வம்ஸனம்

லங்காயாம் விலுலாவ ராவண சிரோ ப்ருந்தானி வந்தேய தம் ||

 

Vayor   athma  bhuva thatho  Hanumathaa   padhothi   bhara  sthithaam

Pranebhyopi gareeyaseem priya thamam vijnaya  raksho  Hruthaam

SEthum  varinidhow vidhaya  vividhanandhaka   vidhwamsanam

Lankayaam   vilulava  Ravana  siro brindani   vandhena   tham

 

The darling  of wind god  Hanuman then crossed   the ocean

He came to know the place of the wife of Rama who is deaer than his life and informed him

After building the  bridge over the ocenby expert who became  happy in many ways

They reached Lanka and cut off the head of Ravana and was saluted  by the army

 

4.சீதா ராம பட்டாபிஷேகம்

Crowning of Sita  and Rama

 

ஆருஹ்யாத விபீஷணேன ஸுபகம் பக்த்யா ஸமா வேதிதம்

மான்ய புஷ்பகம் அஞ்ஜஸா நிஜபுரீம் ஆகத்ய மித்ரைர் வ்ருத: |

ஆனந்தாய வஸிஷ்ட காச்யப முகை: பட்டாபிஷிக்தோ விபு:

தஸ்மின் ஜாக்ரதி ஜானகீ ப்ரியதமே கா நாம பீதிர் மம ||

 

AAroohya adha   vibheeshanena  subhagam  bakthya  samaa vedhitham

Maanyam  pushpakam anjasaa nija pureem agathya mithrair  vridha

AAnandhaaya   vasishta  kashyapa  mukhair, pattabhishiktho   vibhu

Thasmin  jagrathi  janaki  priyathame, kaa naama bheethir  mama

 

After  crowning Vibheeshana who was a good devotee after  travelling

In in the great  pushpaka  plane, he came  to his own city  and saw his friends

Became very happy and the lord was crowned  by Vasishta  and Kashyapa

Keeping his darling Janaki  happy and let that remove  my fear

(Lord Kiratha (hunter) Sastha is the son born   Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvathi when they  took the form of hunters to  give Pasupathasthra   to  Arjuna. This form is worshipped in Erumeli Kotta temple  , Baluserry Kotta temple  , Nilambur temple  , Trivandrum Kizhakke  Kotta temple  . The great book “SAthru Pooja Kalpadruman” explains in detail   the method of worship of Kirtha Sastha (I am indebted for this information to Sri Aravind Subramanyam,  a young authority   on everything   related to Sastha)

There is an opinion held by  people that  The Vettakku Oru Magan  worshipped   in many temples (including Baluserry Kotta temple)    in Malabar , where there are few  temples dedicated  to  Sastha, is same as Kirata  Sastha)

 

Dhyanam

Kodandam  sasaram  bhujena   bhujagendra bhogaa bhasaa vahan

Vamenachurikaa  vibaksha dalen pakshena  dakshena   cha

Kaanthyaa  nirjitha neeradha  purabhidha kreedan kiraatha  krithe

Puthrosmakaanalpa   nirmalayaa  cha  nirmathu   sarmanisam

 

He who holds kodanda  like bow along with arrows, like  the shining king  of snakes  Adhi sesha

Who holds  churika in his left hand which is capable of splitting the enemies,

Who shines  like the rain rich clouds  , who is like a  hunter with spotless fame

Who is  the  the pure  son of lord Shiva  , may   always grant us  pleasure

Prathyartha  vraatha  vaksha  sthala rudhira   suraa paana   mathaa  prshthkam

He who has put on hunter’s form , who has the arrow  which pierces  the enemy’s chest

Drinks the blood from there like alcohol and  becomes fat, who removes worries of

My lotus like  heart  , the  son of Lord Shiva who wears the peacock’s feather

Who becomes happy  with water rich cloud and who saves me   from dangers always

 

AAkhetaaya vane charasya giri aasakthaaya, sambho sutha

Traathum   yo  bhuvanam  puraa  samajani khyaatha  kirathakruthi

Kodanda  kshurikaa  dharo  ghana rava pinchavathamsojjwala

Sa thwam  mamava   sarvadhaa  ripu  gana thrastham   dhaya  vaaridhe

 

He who was son of shiva , who was affectionate  to Parvathi , who wandered  in forest forhunting

Who is famous for protecting    the world, who took the famous hunter’s form

Who carried the bow   and arrows, who shined  in colour of water rich cloud, who wore peacock feather

Oh ocean of mercy , always protect me who is afraid  of my enemy crowd.

 

Yo  maam  peedayathi prasahyaa   sathatham  dehi thya  anyasyrayam

Bhithwaa   thasya   ripo rura  kshurikayaa sathaagrayaa  durmathe

Deva  thwath kara pankajollasithayaa  srimath  kirathakruthe

That pranaan  vithraanthakaaya   bhagawan  kaalaari  puthraanjasaa

 

Please always   grant me your support  to me   ,by  splitting,

The   chest of my  evil natured enemy   by using  the  dagger  in your lotus like hand

And take away his soul, Oh  Lord   who has taken the form  of a hunter,

 oh son of   the enemy  of  God of death

 

Vidho  marmasu  durvachobhira  sathaam  santhaptha  salyopamai

Drupthaanaam  dwishathaam  asantha manasaam  khinnosmi   yaavath  brusam

Oh God who has  taken the form of a hunter, My ignorant enemies   with confused mind,

Who are  bad    are  troubling  me often by hitting me with heated  irn pinf

Please come with your    sword   as well as  arrows  in my mind

Quickly and within a second kill them all  

 

Harthum  vithama dharmathi  mamaratha schorascha   ye  durjanaa

Stheshaam    marmasu   thadayaasu  visikhai thwath karmukhaan nisruthai

Saasthaaram   dwishathaam  kiratha  vapusham sarvarthadham  thwamruthe

Pasyam yathra purari puthra Saranam naanyam  prasannosmyaham

 

Oh Lord Sastha  with hunters form  who grants us  everything, who is son,

Of God  who destroyed  tripuras , some thieves  are  trying to hurt me  ,

By  stealing my wealth, spoil my luck, please hurt them inplaces that kill

By the arrows starting from your  bow  as I do not have  any one to ask me to protect

 

Yaksha pretha  pisacha  bhootha nivahaa , dukha  pradhaa  bheeshanaa

Badanthe nara  sonithoth  sukadhiyo   yo maam  ripu  preritha

Chapajyani nadhasi sthwam eesa sakalaan samhruthya  dushta  grahaan

Gowreesathmaja  daivatheswara kirathaa kaaraa  samraksha maam

 

Oh Son of husband  of Gauri , oh God  of Gods, The lord who has taken up  hunters form

The Yakshas  , prethas  , ghosts  , devils which are fearsome and cause  sorrow

Which have been sent by my enemies   to drink my blood and trouble me

Please protect me by sending arrows  from all these evil things

 

Dhogdhum  ye nirathasthva nmadhyaa  pada  padmai  kantha  bakthaya  may

Mayaachanna kalebharaa sruvishadhaa nadhyai sadhaa  Karmabhi

Vasya sthambana  maaranaadhi  kusala  prarambha dakshanareen

Dushtaan   samhara deva devesa baraakaaraa trilokeswaraa

 

Oh God of Gods  , the god of all the three   worlds, please protect me   who

Firmly  prays to your  twin lotus like feet with great  devotion from enemies

Who hava invisible body due  to illusion, who may feed   me poison

Who attack me  through methods  of black magic  and  want to attack me

 

Thanwaa vaa  manasaa  giraapi sathatham dosham  chikeershathyalam

THwath padha pranadhasya  niraparadhasyami ye maanavaa

SArvaan samhara thaan gireesa  sutha may   thapa thrayoughanapi

THwaamekam  sabaraakruthe bhayaharam  nadham prapannosmyaham

 

Oh son of   Gireesawho killed  everything, to me who salute  your lotus likr feet

Who is innocent  , there  are bevy of enemies   who want to create  sorrow

By  body   mind and words and Oh lord who destroys them

And  and removes   all my fears, I surrender  to you

 

Klishtou   raja  bhatai  sthadhaapi  pari bhoothoham  kulai  vaibhi

Scha anyai ghora tharai vipajjala   nidhou magnosmi  dukha thuram

Ha ha   kinkaravai vibho shabhara  vesham thwa abheeshta arthatham

Vandeham para daivatham kuru krupaa nadhaartha bandho mayi

 

He  who is filled up everywhere, He who puts on a form , oh great  God

Who grants  a boon when  it is asked  in a second,I have been greatly

Suffering, by  servants of bad kings, by horses of enemies and by other strong people

I salute the divine God whoshows mercy  on the one who does not have any friends

 

Phala Sruthi

 

Stotram  ya prajapeth prasantha  karanai nithyam Kiratashtakam

Sa kshipram vasagaan karothi nrupathee naa badha  vairaanapi

SAmhrudhyath athma virodhena khila janaan  dushta   grahaan   apyasou

Yaathyanthe Yama  dhootha bheethi rahitho divyaam gathim  Saaswatheem

 

If this stotra called Kiratha  octet  which grants  peace  is chanted  daily

He would easily make his the enemies     who surround him

And would destroy bad people bad planets and

Would get rid of the fear  to emissaries of God of death and reach permanent good state

 

Kiratha  moorthaye   Saranam Ayyappa

I surrender  to the hunter  form of Lord Ayyappa

 

Ithi kirathashtakam sampoornam
