Vaitheeswaran koil   is a temple occupied  by  Lord Shiva   as   the Doctor king form of Lord Shiva . It also is called  Pullirukuum velur in Tamil because  devotees believe the Bird Jatayu  , The RigVeda    and the Vel   worshipped Lord Shiva   at this temple .It is believed that Lord Rama and Lakshmana performed the cremation of the bird Jatayu in this spot. It is also believed that Lord Angaraka (planet Mars) who was afflicted by leprosy got cured in this place. It is also believed that Lord Subramanya got his trident (vel) after worshipping in this temple.
There is a temple tank called Siddha Amrutha Theertha (the all curing nectar water) in this temple. Bathing in this tank is supposed to cure all diseases. This tank is devoid of fishes and frogs, till this day. Tiru Chandu pills distributed in this temple are considered as a cure of all diseases. This is purported to be the medicine, which Vaidyanatha gave to Angaraka to cure his illness.. Pilgrims who come here to get their illness cured take this medicine after observing the following directions. They are first required to take bath in the Angasanatana Teertham on an auspicious day during the Sukla Paksha, get the Mrittika (mud) in a new pot to the temple, mix it with sacred ash and a few drops of water from Siddhamurta Teertham.
They should grind this into a paste and offer it in prayer to the Goddess and take it in with a little water from the Teertham, whereby they will be relieved of any sort of illness. After the abhishekam, the feet of Lord Subrahmanya are covered with sandal paste mixed with saffron powder in equal weight and devotees receive it as prasad.
It is also believed that Lord Rama worshipped Lord Shiva in this temple Lord Shiva faces west in this tewmple. It is believed  that worshipping Lord Shiva facing west is equivalent of worshipping  in 1000   shiva temples  .

     This great  prayer in Tamil   has been written by Sri Saanu  Puthiran , in a very peculiar   circumstance  . He happened to see   The great Mettur Swamigal(a great  sishya  of Maha Periyava)  in Thiruvidai  Marudur  , When he he had gone  there  to submit  one of his works  before Sannidhanam of Maha Periyava . It seems Mettur swamigal instructed him to write a prayer   addressed  to  God Vaidyanatha  of Vaitheeswaral koil  who was his kuls deivam then and there. Sri Saanu Puthiran did and this great  prayer  was the  result .

     Since lord Vaitheeswaran is my Kula Deivam also  I translated it ,If there  is any mistake or error in interpretation  please  do write to me  .I   would immediately correct it

உலகமெலாம் அடிபணியும் ஆதிசிவன் பார்வதியின்
ஆனைமுகத் தலைமகனாம் ஐங்கரனே ஐயனே
ஓங்குபுகழ் புள்ளிருக்கு வேளூர் பாமாலையிதை
புனைந்திடவே அருள் தருவாய் சசிமங்கள கணபதியே!

Ulagam yellam    adi paniyum   aadhisivan  parvathiyin,

Aanai mukha thalai makanaam  iynkarane   ayyane,

Ongu pugazh  Pullirukku   Velur   paamalayithai  ,

Punainthidave    arul tharuvai   sasi mangala  Ganapthiye

Oh Lord  with five hands   who  is the elephant  faced son,

Of Adhi Shiva   and Parvathi before whom the entire world bows,

Oh Ganesa with moon and mars please give me your blessings,

To  compose  this garland of verses  about the God of  the town

பிறைநிலா சூடிய சிகை உடையோன் தாள் போற்றி!
பித்தனவன் ஒருபாகத்து உமையாள் தாள் போற்றி!
ஆனைமுகத் தலைமகனாம் ஐங்கரன் தாள் போற்றி!
அழகுமுத்துக் குமரனவன் அருட்திருத் தாள் போற்றி!
அடியார்தம் குறைபோக்கும் அங்காரகன் தாள் போற்றி!
அருட்தேவன் தலவிருட்சம் வேம்பின் தாள் போற்றி!
வெள்ளமென அருள்புரியும் சித்தமிர்த தீர்த்தம் போற்றி!
புள்ளிருக்கு வேளூர்தல புண்ணியமே போற்றி! போற்றி!!

Pirai  nilaa   soodiya   sigai udayon thaal POthri,

Pithanavan   oru bakathu   umayaal thaal pothri

Aanai muga   thalai maganaam   aiynkaran thaal  Pothri

Azhagu muthu   kumaranavan  arut thiruthal  pothri,

Adiyaar tham   kurai pokkum Angaarakan  thal pothri

Arut thevan  thala vrksham vembin thaal pothri

Vellamena   arul puriyum   chithamrutha   theertham pothri

I praise   the feet  of he who has the crescent of moon on his head,

I praise the feet  of Goddess Uma   who occupies  one part of that God(mad god) ,

I praise the feet of his elephant headed son who  has five hands,

I praise the blessed divine feet  of the pretty Lord Muthu Kumara,

I praise   the feet of planet mars(kuja)  who removes the problem of devotees,

 I praise  the feet of the neem tree which is the temple tree of the blessed God,

I praise  the sacred waters of Sidhamrutha  tank which  bleeses us like water,

I praise   the bleesings of the  place where temple of Rig veda, Jatayu, Sun and Skanda stands

தென்புலத்துக் காவலனே தென்னவர்தம் கதியான
தெளிவுள்ளம் தானளிக்கும் தென்னாடும் உடையோனே
தையலவள் மனையாளும் பொன்னுருவப் பெருமானே

Then pulathu kaavalane  , thennavar   tham gathiyaana  ,

Theli vullam   thanalikkum  thennadum udayone  ,

Thayyalaval   manayaalum    ponnuruva    perumaane  ,

Oh guardian of the south  , who has   control  of the southern country,

Which grants a pure mind which is the fate  of the southerners,

Oh God with the golden form  who rules  the home of Thayyal nayagi,

அஞ்சேல் என்றருள்செய்து அரக்கமனம் அகற்றியெமை
ஆபத்து வேறேதும் அண்டாது அருள்புரியும்

Arul vadivanavane  , aru marunthanavane  ,

Anjel yendru arul cheithu     arakka  Manam  agathi yemai,

Aapathu   verethuvum andaathu arul puriyum  ,

Oh God with divine form  , Oh God who became a divine doctor,

Who told  “do not get scared” and removed our  Rakshasa  mind ,

And continues to bless   us so that  no other danger  approaches us,

இறைபிரம்மன் மாலவனும் ஆதியந்தம் தாமறியா
இறைபெருமான் எனவேகும் ஈசனென புவிபோற்றும்

Irai Brahman  malavanum    aadhiyantham  thaamariyaa ,

Irai perumaan   yenavegum   eesanena  puvi pothrum,

EEyum  undhan   arul vendi   alaivor   tham chumai agathrum,

Oh Lord who is praised as that God  to know whose  beginning,

As well as end   God Brama and God  Vishnu   went,

Oh God who removes the burden   of those who wander searching for his blessings  which he gives,

உளங்கனிந்து உனையறிந்து சிவவோமென துதிபாட
உருபத்துத் தலையரக்கன் சிரங்கொய்து வினையகற்றி
ஊர்மேவும் குறையாவும் நீக்கியருள் புரிந்தவனே
புள்ளிருக்கு வேளூரின் வைத்தியநாத சுவாமி போற்றி!

Ullam  kaninthu   unai arinthu    Shiva om   yena  thuthi paada  ,

Uru pathu    thalai   arakkan  siram   koithu vinai   agathi,

OOrmevum   kurai yaavum    neeki arul  purinthavane,

Pullirulkku velurin Vaidhyanatha   Swami pothri

I sing your praises  by saying Shiva Om   with a tender  heart   and after  understanding you,

Who   cut off the head   and changed the fate  of  a ten headed  Rakshasa,

Oh Lord  who removes     the troubles   that   are spread   all  over,

Oh God  Vaidhynatha of  the land of  bird, Rik, Vel  and Sun , my praise to you

எத்திசைக்கும் புகழோங்க நான்மறையும் போற்றிவர
ஏவுவினை யாவையுமே நீக்கி நலம் காத்தருளி
சித்தியும் முத்தியும் சேர்க்கும் அரும் மருந்தாகும்
புள்ளிருக்கு வேளூரின் வைத்தியநாத சுவாமி போற்றி!

Yethisaikkum pugazh onga   naan marayum pothri vara ,

Yevu vinai  yavayume   neeki  nalam kathu aruli,

Sidhiyum  Muthiyum   serkkum   aru marunthaagum,

Oh God  Vaidhynatha of  the land of  bird, Rik, Vel  and Sun,

Whose fame   is  spread  all around, who   is accompanied by four Vedas  praising him,

Who is the divine medicine   who removes  all the karmic   bonds and ,

Who blesses  us   with comfort and adds achievement and salvation, I praise you 

ஐயனே எனக்கதறும் மார்க்கண்டரைக் காக்க
காலனை சாய்த்த விடமுண்டப் பெருமானே
ஐம்பூதம் அணையாள அடியார்க்கும் அருள்புரியும்

Ayyane yena kadarum  markandanai  kakka,

Kalanai   chaaitha   vidamunda   perumale,

Iymbootham  anayaala   adiyakkum arul puriyum,

Pulliruukku  Velurin  Vaithiyanadha  Swami  Pothri

Praise Lord  who took poison , who killed  Yama,

To protect markandeya who was crying loudly “Oh Lord”,

Oh Lord  Vaidyanatha  of  the town of bird, Rik, Vel  and Sun,

Who blesses   his devotees  to   control   the   five elements.

ஒருமறையாம் சிவலோக நெறியறியச் சிந்தைதரும்
ஓங்காரப் பொருளாகி தையலவள் மனையாளும்
எங்கள்குல தெய்வமாம் தவசிகாமணி நாதன்
புள்ளிருக்கு வேளூரின் வைத்தியநாத சுவாமி போற்றி!

Oru Marayaam  Sivaloka  neriyyariya   chinthai tharum,

Ongaara porulaagi   , thayyalalaval   manayaalum,

Yengal  kula deivamaam    thava   sikha mani  naadhan,

Pulliruukku  Velurin  Vaithiyanadha  Swami  Pothri.

Praise the  Lord  Vaidyanatha  of  the town of bird, Rik, Vel  and Sun,

Who churns our thought so that  we know the rules  of the  land of Siva which is a Veda,

Who becomes the meaning   “Om”  and  rules over the home  of the lady,

And who is top most lord of penance   and the  God of our clan.

இசையால் மிகப்பாடும் அடியார்கள் உறைதலத்தில்
தாளதனைத் தொழ நின்ற பரஞ்சோதி பயிலுகின்ற
வேதத்தின் உறையதனால் வெண்மணலே சிவமான
புள்ளிருக்கு வேளூரின் வைத்தியநாத சுவாமி போற்றி!

Yisayaal  miga paadum   adiyaargal urai thalathil,

Thalathanai  thozha nindra paramjothi payilukindra,

Vedathin uraivathanaal   ven manale   sivamaana,

 Pulliruukku  Velurin  Vaithiyanadha  Swami  Pothri.

Where the white sand itself became  Lord Shiva  due to the  power,

Of Vedas   learned  by Parannjothi   who was waiting to salute the feet

 in the place  where devotees  who sing  with music live ,

பொற்சடையில் சூடிபுவி காத்தருளும் வைத்தீசன்

Effect of prayer

Praise the feet of the Lord Vaidyanatha   who  decorates  his golden tuft  with,

The ebbing ganges river and the moon’s  crescent and protects the world,

Who blesses  us along with Goddess  THailambal with golden mind,

And who lives in the city of bird, Rik, Vel  and Sun

புவியிடரும் ரோகமதும் தீமைகளும் விட்டகல
பிறவிவினை தாம்போக்கி புண்ணியமும் தானேக
புனைந்த பாமாலையிதை படிப்போர்க்கு என்றென்றும்
புவியிதனில் நல்வாழ்வும் சீர்வளமும் சேர்ந்திடுமே!

Puvi idarum   rogamathum   theemaikalum  vittakala,

Piravi vinai thaam pokki punniyamum thaan yeka,

Punaintha  Paamaalai ithai padipporkku   yendrendrum,

Puviyathanil  nal vaazvum    seer valamum   chernthidume

Those   who read this garland of prayers   for getting   rid of  ,

The diseases and evils  that trouble  the world to go away   ,

And also  remove the karma of birth   and give   divine  punya,

Would forever  nicely live in this earth along with prosperity
