Goddess Mansa Devi is the revered Hindu goddess of snakes and venom. She is worshipped for protection against snakebites, as well as for fertility, healing, and prosperity. She is predominantly venerated in East and Northeast India, though her prominence extends across the country. [1, 2]

Mythology and Lineage

Mansa Devi’s mythology is rich and varies by region. She is often described as the daughter of the sage Kashyap and Kadru, the mother of serpents, making her the sister of Vasuki, the king of Nagas. Other traditions depict her as a mind-born daughter of Sage Kashyap or as the daughter of Lord Shiva. She is married to Sage Jaratkaru and is the mother of the sage Astika, who famously saved the Naga race from destruction.

Goddess Mansa Devi, the wish-fulfilling form of Shakti, is primarily worshipped at two highly revered shrines in North India. Both are heavily visited during the Navratri festivals

देवी त्वां स्तोतुमिच्छामि सा विनां प्रवरा परम् ।
‎परात्परां च परमां नहि स्तोतुं क्षयोsधुना ।। १ ।।

 

Devi  thwaam sthothumichaami saa vinaa pravaraa param

Parathparam  cha nahi sthothum Kshayo aadhunaa

 

Oh Goddess  , I desire  to pray you without being  a great family

Though  I will not pray  in a great  manner, I should not go down from the present

स्तोत्राणां लक्षणं वेदे स्वभावाव्यानत: परम् ।
‎न क्षम: प्रकृति वक्तुं गुणानां तब सुव्रते ।। २ ।।

 

Stotraanaam, Lakshanam  Vedhe swabhavyanath  param

Na Kshama prakruthi  vakthum  gunaanaam   suvruthe

 

I will not study  the greatness of the prayer , along my present conduct

I am not one with patience nor one  with very  good  character

शुद्रसत्वस्वरुपा त्वम् कोपहिंसाविवर्जिता ।
‎न च सप्तो मुनिस्तेन त्यक्तया च त्वया यत: ।। ३ ।।

 

Sudhra   sathwaa  roopaayaa thwam  kopa himsaa vivarjitha

Na cha  saptho  munisthenathyakthayaa cha  thwayaa  yath

You are  viewed  as  having very pure form who has left off anger  and Violence

Nor have the  seven sages  abandoned you  for They  are  yours

त्वं मया पूजिता साध्वी जननी च यथाsदिति: ।
‎दयारुपा च भगिनी क्षमारुपा यथा प्रसु: ।। ४ ।।

 

THwam mayaa poojithaa  saadhvi  , Janani  cha  yadha adhithi

Dhayaa roopaa cha  Bhagini , kshamaaroopa yadha  prasu

 

You are  the pious mother or Adhithi worshipped  by me

One with form of merciful sister , or one with form of patience  from birth

त्वया मे रक्षिता: प्राणा: पुत्रदारा सुरेश्वरी ।
‎अहं करोमि त्वां पूज्यां मम प्रीतिश्छ वर्धते ।। ५ ।।

 

THwayaa  mein rakshithaa pranaa, puthradhaara  Sureswari

Aham karomi thwaam poojyaammama preethischa vardhathi

 

You  are the one  who saves my soul , giver of sons  and  goddess  of devas

I am doing worship o you  so  that your liking  for  me increases

नित्यं यद्यपि पूज्यां त्वां भवेsत्र जगदम्बिके ।
‎तथाsपि तव पूजां वै वर्धयामि पुन: पुन: ।। ६ ।।

 

Nithyam  yadhyapi PoojyaamThwam  bhave  athra  jagadambike

Thadhaa aapi thava  poojaam  vai  vardhayaami  puna puna

 

Though if  I  daily   worship you, you  will  be the mother of universe

Then also  I would increase worships  to  you again and again

ये त्वयाषाढसङ्क्रान्त्या पूजयिष्यन्ति भक्तित: ।
‎पञ्चम्यां मनसारव्या यां मासान्ते दिने दिने ।। ७ ।।

Ye thvayaa aashaada  samkraanthyaa  poojayishyanthi Bhakthitha

Panchamyaam manasaa aaraadhya yam  masaantha  dhine dhine

 

Either you do pooja  in the month beginning of  Ashasa(Aadi/Karkidakam)  with devotion

Or  pray mentally  during Panchami Or the  end of month daily

पुत्रपौत्रादयस्तेषां वर्धन्ते न धनानि च ।
‎यशस्विन: कीर्तिमन्तो विद्यावन्तो गुणान्विता: ।। ८ ।।

 

Puthra  pouthraadhaya  sthosham vardhanthe na Dhanaani cha

Yasavina  keerthimantho  Vidhyavanthi, gunaanvithaa

 

Joy of son and grand son will increase , also money

They  will become famous, very  educated and be with good character

ये त्वां न पूजयिष्यन्ति निन्दन्त्यज्ञानतो जना: ।
‎लक्ष्मी हीना भविष्यन्ति तेषां नागभयं सदा ।। ९ ।।

 

Yeh  thwaam  poojayishyanthi nindhanthya  ajnanatho  jana

Lakshmi  heenaa bhavishyanthi theshaam naaga bhayam  thadhaa

 

Those who donot worship and with ignorance and due to ignorance  blame it

They  will become without money and  will have  fear of serpents always

त्वं स्वर्गलक्ष्मी: स्वर्गे च वैकुण्ठे कमलाकला ।
‎नारायणांशो भगवन् जरत्कारुर्मुनीश्वर: ।। १० ।।

 

THwam  Swargalakshmi swarge, Vaikunte  Kamalakanthaa

Narayanaamse Bhagwan  jarathkarur muneeswara

 

In heaven you are swargalakshmi, In vaikunta goddess  Lakshmi

The king of sages  Jarathkaru  is  a part of Narayana

तपसा तेजसा त्वं च मनसा ससृजे पिता ।
‎अस्माकं रक्षणायैव तेन त्वं मनसाभिदा ।। ११ ।।

 

THapasaa thejasaa cha  manasaa sasruje  pithaa

Asmaakam rakshanayaiva  thena thwam mansaabhidhaa

 

With his  penance and power father  created her  mentally

For our  protection you were  named Manasa

मनसादेवी त्वं शक्त्या चाssत्मना सिद्धयोगिनी ।
‎तेन त्वं मनसादेवी पूजिता वन्दिता भवे ।। १२ ।।

 

Manasaa devi thwam sakthyaa cha  aathmanaa siddha  Yogini

Thena thwamManasaa devi poojithaa vandhithaa  bhave

 

Oh Mansa devi by  power and soul  you are an occult  yogini

And so  you became  Mansa Devi who is worshipped and saluted

यां भक्त्या मनसा देवा: पूजयन्त्यंनिशं भृशम् ।
‎तेन त्वं मनसादेवीं प्रवदन्ति पुराविद: ।। १३ ।।

 

Yaam  bhakthyaa manasaa  devaa  poojanthyanisam brusam

Thena  thwam Mansaadevi pravadanthi puraavidha

 

The devas always   worshipped  you  with devotion greatly

And  in the olden times they    called  you  Manasa devi

सत्त्वरुपा च देवी त्वं शश्वत्सर्वानषेवया ।
‎यो हि यद्भावयेन्नित्यं शतं प्राप्नोति तत्समम् ।। १४ ।।

 

Sathwa roopaa cha  devi thwam saswathsarvashevayaa

Yo hi yadh  bhavaye nithyam satham prapnothi  thath samam

 

Oh Goddess  you hacve real form, you are permanent and searched by all

He  who daily  thinks  about you , Will get equal to hundred perccent

इदं स्तोत्रं पुण्यवीजं तां संपूज्य च य: पठेत् ।
‎तस्य नागभयं नास्ति तस्य वंशोद्भवस्य च ।। १५ ।।

 

Idham Stotram punya  veejam  thaam  sampoojya  ya padeth

THasya  naaga  bhayam naasthi thasya  vamsodhbhavasya   cha

 

This  prayer  which  is very blessed  if you read it completely

Then he will have no fear  of serpent and his clan will increase

विषं भवेत्सुधातुल्य सिद्धस्तोत्रं यदा पठेत् ।
‎पञ्चलक्ष जपेनैव सिद्ध्यस्तोत्रो भवेन्नर ।।
‎सर्पशायी भवेत्सोsपि निश्चितं सर्ववाहन: ।। १६ ।।

 

Visham  bhaveth sudhaa thulya , Sidha  Stotram ya padeth

Pancha laksha  japenaiva sidhya stotro  bhaven nara

Sarpa saayi BHaveth so api Nischitham  sarva  vahana

 

Poison will become equal to nectar, if this Powerful  Stotra is read

If read  five lakh time That man would become  powerful occult practitioner

He will become  one who sleeps  on serpent and daily one who travels in all beings

‎।। इति महेन्द्रकृतं मनसादेवीस्तोत्रं समसम्पूर्णम् ।।
Ithi Mahendra krutham Manasaa devi  Stotram  sama sampoornam
