The Dwadasa stotra –II

 The Dwadasa stotra –II

By

Sri Madhvacharya Bhagawat Pada

Translated by

P.R.Ramachander

(Madhvacharya also known as Ananda theertha Bhagwat Pada  had composed

12 prayers at the time of consecration of the Krishna idol in Udupi. These are

Considered as very sacred by his followers. I am trying to translate them

Individually . The second prayer is  a prayer addresseed  to Lord Hari. It tries to

Bring the contradictions  in his God form.. The text in devanagari is available  in

http://www.dvaita.net/pdf/others/dstotra/d_stotra.pdf)

1.Swajano dhadhi samvrudhi poornachandro gunarnava,

Amandhananda sandhro na priyatham indirapathi.

Is not the husband of Lakshmi the complete and flawless bliss,

And  like a full moon creating tides in the ocean,

He creates  waves of devotion in the mind’s  of good people.

2.Rema chakori vidhave  dushta darpraoda  vahnaye,

Sath pandha jana gehaya namo narayanaya they.

He gives happiness to Lakshmi , like a full moon satisfies Chakora birds,

He is like a fire in burning the evil people with  sinful acts,

And he is  the resting place of good travelers towards God,

And my salutations  to that Narayana.

3.Chitha chit bhedm akhilam vidhaaya aadhaya bunchathe,

Avyakrutha grahasthaya , rama pranayine nama.

The world is filled with conscious and unconscious things,

And he creates it , looks after it and destroys it,

And this householder with his consort Lakshmi is not affected by it.

And my salutations  to such a Lord.

4.Amandha guna saarobhi manda haasani veekshitha,

Nithyam indiraaya aananda sandro yo naumi thamn harim.

Though he is the essence of unalloyed joy,

He daily sees the  soft smile of Lakshmi  with great joy,

And I offer my salutations  to such a Hari.

5.Vasee vaso na kasyapi yo ajitho vijithakhila,

Sarva Kartha na kriyathe tham namami rema pathim.

The consort of Lakshmi is the doer of everything but does not do anything,

And though he is made theirs,   by all the world,

He remains undefeated  and is victorious over all the world.

6.Agunaaya gunodhreka swaroopaya adhikarine,

Vidharaithari sanghaaya vasudevaya they nama.

Though he is without any qualities, he is the only Lord ,

Of the  unlimited forms of  all qualities and is the one ,

Who has destroyed all his enemies  both internal as well as external,

My salutations  are due  to Such a Vasudeva.

7.Aadhi devaaya devaanaam padaye saadhitharaye,

Aanaadhya ajnana paaraya nama paaravaraaasraya.

He is the most ancient God among all Gods,

And he is the  Lord of all  the gods,

And makes us cross the beginning less ignorance,

And my salutations to him greatest among all gods.

8.Ajaaya janayithre asya vijithaa akhila dhanavaa,

Ajaadhi poojya padaya namasthe garuda dwaja.

Though you are one who  is never born, you create the entire world,

And you also have won over all asuras,

Oh one  whose feet is worshipped By Brahma,

My salutations to him who has Garuda in his flag.

9.Indiraa mandha sandraa agya kadaksha prekshithathmane,

Asmad ishtaika kaaryaya poornaya haraye nama.

You are attracted by the slow , devotion and love filled,

Side long glances  of Goddess Lakshmi,

And you fulfill our desires and you are complete in yourself,

Muy salutations to you, God Hari.

Ithi Srimada Ananda theertha Bhagawat  Padacharya  virachitham,

Dwadasa stotreshu Dwitheeya stotram sampoornam.

Thus ends the second prayer  of the book of twelve prayers,

Composed  by Sri Ananda Theertha known as Madhwacharya.
