qualities of Goddess Durga,.)
1.Om sannaddha
simha kandasthaam swrna varnaam
manoramaam,
Poornendu vadanaam
Durgaam varnayaami gunarnavaam.
1.OM I am describing
Durga sitting ready for battle on the shoulder of a lion,
Who is of gold
colour , who steals the mind and who has
a face
like the full moon.
2.Kireeda
haara graiveya noopuraangadha kankanai.
Rathna
kanchyaa rathna chithra kucha
kanchuka thejasaa.
2.Shining with
crown, garland of pearls, anklets
, bracelets , bangles,
With gem studded waist belt and dress
decorated by gems.
3.Virajamanaa
ruchiraambaraa kimkini mandithaa
,
Rathna
mekhalayaa rathna vasopari
bhooshithaa.
3.Shining in pretty dress , decorated by small
bells,
And by the gem studded waist belt worn over gem studdeddress.
4.Vichithra choodamaninaa
rathnadhya thilakena cha,
Anarga nasaa maninaa sobhithasya saroruha
,
4.Shining like an
open lotus wearing a well made
gem studded ring,
Wearing gem
studded ear globes , thilaka and invaluable nose
stud .
5.Buja keerthyaa
rathna chithra ganda suthrena changithaa,
Padmakshinee
subimboshti padma garbhadhibhi sthuthaa.
5.Who was prayed
to my Lord brahma , who was
wearing armlets , gem necklaces ,
Mangalya tied by a
thread and who has lotus like eyes
and well made lips.
6.Kabari bara vinyastha
pushpasthambaka visthaaraa,
Karna neelothphala chala sath brumandala thvishaa.
6.Who is bent due
to the load of flowers used to
decorate her head,
Who has waving
neelothpala flowers decorating
her ears and who
has splendorous eyebrows.
7.Kunthalanaamcha
santhyaa shobhamanaa shubha pradhaa,
THanu madhyaa
visalora sthala pradhu nithambini.
7.Who shines in
her long hair curls, who grants auspiciousness,
Who has very
narrow middle and very broad buttocks ,
8.Charu deerga bujaa kambugreevaa jangaa yuga
prabhaa,
Asi charma gadhaa shooola dhanur banangusa adheenaa.
8.Who has pretty
long hands , conch like neck and two
shining thighs ,
Who keeps others
in control with sword, mace, trident, bow , arrows and
goad.
9.Vara abhayabhyaam
chakrena , sankhena cha lasad
karaa,
Damshtrogra
bheeshana syotha hoomkararthi tha danavaa.
9.Who has her hands showing protection and boon and her
shining hands holding wheel and
conch,
Who is fearful to
the asuras due to her teeth
as well as the hoom sound
produced by her .
10.BHayamkaree surareenaam suraanaam abhayankari,
Mukunda kimkari, Vishnu
bhakthaanaam mouktha sankari.
10.Who is fearful to the enemies of devas. Who is
the protector of devas,
Who has lord mukunda as
her assistant and who is the
Sankari who grants salvation to
devotees.
11.Surasthree
kimkaribischa vruthaa ksemangari cha na
,
Aadhi
mukhodgeernanana aamnaayasargakari puna.
11.Who is surrounded by deva maidens as her maids, who confers happiness,
Who has the Vedas
which were produced earlier by
words and who created the world
again.
12.Nisarga muktha bhakthaanaam trivarga
phala dhayini
Nishumba shumba
samharthree Mahishasura mardini.
12.Who grants her devotees , the fruits of
wealth , dharma and desire
Who has killed
Nishumbha and Shumbha, who has
killed Mahishasura
13.Thamasaanaam
thama prapthyai,
MIthyaa jnana
pravurthikaa ,
Thamoabhimanani payaadh
Durgaa
swargavargadhaa.
13.She who
gives out false knowledge,
So that those
with dark qualities would become ignorant ,
She is the favourite goddess for those with dark qualities,
The Durga who
grants heaven and salvation.
14.Imam durga
sthavam punyam,
Vadhi rajaayadheeritham,
Padan vijayathe
sathroon mruthyum,
Durgaani chothareth.
14.He who reads
this praise of Durga ,
