(Hanumman Chalisa is possibly one  of greatest prayer  of Hanuman , written by  Saint Thulasi das  in Language  Avadhi,..Many tamil people chant it  without understanding the meaning . Chanting it, I am sure many devotees  would benefit. .There  are many more  such translations)

 

ஜெய ஹனுமானே! ஞானகுணக் கடலே!

உலகத்தின் ஒளியே வானரர் கோனே. (1)

 

Jaya  Hanumaane , jnana  Guna  Kadale

Ulagathin oliye , vanarar kone   1

 

Hail  Hanuman , ocean of knowledge and good qualities

Light  of the world , king  of monkeys

 

 

 ராமதூதனே! ஆற்றலின் வடிவமே!

 அஞ்சனை மைந்தனே! வாயு புத்திரனே..(2)

 

Rama Dhoothane  , aathalin  vadive

Anjanai  Mainthane , vayu  puthirane 2

 

Emissary  of Rama, personification of  ability

Son of  Anjana  , Son  of Vayu

 

 மாபெரும் வீரனே! பெருந்திறல் வடிவே!

 ஞானத்தை அருள்வாய், நன்மையை தருவாய். (3)

 

Maaperum  veerane , perum thiral  vadive,

Jnanathai  arulvai, nanmayai  tharuvai    3

 

Oh very great  hero , Who has form of great  efficiency

Please grant me knowledge , grant me  good happenings

 

 தங்க மேனியனே, பட்டாடை அணிபவனே!

 மின்னும் குண்டலமுடன் அலைமுடியும் கொண்டவனே. (4)

 

THanga  meniyane  , pattadai  anibhavane

Minnum  kundalamudan, alai mudiyum  kondavane

 

Oh  golden bodied one, who wears  silk cloth

He who  wears shining  ear globe  along with his  wave like hair

 

 

 இடி,கொடிமிளிரும் கரங்கள் கொண்டோனே!

முஞ்சைப் பூணூல் தோ ளணிவோனே! (5)

 

Idi , kodi  milirum  karangal condone

Munjai  poonol  thol  anivone

 

He who has hands  shining with thunder  and  flags

He who wears   sacred  thread  on his sholuders

 

 சிவனின் அம்சமே ! கேசரி மகனே!

 உனதொளி வீரத்தை உலகமே வணங்குமே! (6)

 

Shivanin  amsame  , kesari  magane

Unatholi  veerathai   ulagame  vanangume  6

 

A part of Lord Shiva , son  of Kesari

Your  light  of valor   would be saluted by the world itself

 

பேரறி வாளியே! நற்குண வாரியே!

ராமசேவைக்கென மகிழ்வுடன் பணிவோனே! (7)

 

Oh very   great scholar , oh ocean  of good qualities

He who bows with joy  to do service  to Lord Rama

 

 உன் மனக் கோவிலில் ராமனின் வாசம்

ராமனின் புகழை கேட்பது பரவசம்! (8)

 

Un mana  kovilil  Ramananin vaasam

Ramanin  pugazhai  ketpathu  paravasam 8

 

Rama lives  in the temple  of your mind

Hearing fame of Rama  leads yu to ecstacy

 

 

நுண்ணிய உருவாய் அன்னைமுன் தோன்றினாய்!

கோர வுருவினில் இலங்கையை எரித்தாய்! (9)

 

Nummiya  uruvai    annai  mun thondrinai

Ghora  uruvinil   ilangayai yerithai  9

 

You  appeared  before mother  Sita in a small  form

And in a fierce  form burnt   Sri Lanka

 

 அசுரரை அழித்த பெரும்பல சாலியே !

ராம காரியத்தை முடித்த மாருதியே ! (10)

 

Asurarai  azhitha   perum  bala saaliye

Rama  Kariyathai  muditha  Bala Saaliye  10

 

Oh Very strong one who destroyed   Asuras

Oh Strong one  who finished  job of Rama

 

 சஞ்சீவி கொணர்ந்தே இலக்குவனை எழுப்பிட

விஞ்சிய அன்புடன் ராமனுனைத் தழுவினார்! (11)

 

SAnjeevi  konartnthe   ilakkuvanai  yezhuppida

Vinjiya  anbudan  Raman unai thazuhuvinaar  11

 

When you brough sanjivini and  woke up Lakshmna

With   with great  affection , Rama hugged  you

 

 ராமன் உன்னை பெரிதும் புகழ்ந்து

பரதனைப் போல நீ உடனுறை என்றார்! (12)

 

Raman  unai  perithum  pugazhnthu

Bharathanai  poala nee udan  urai yendraar  12

 

Rama  praised   you very greatly

And told, like  BHaratha   you   stay with me

 

 ஆயிரம் நாவுடை ஆதி சேஷனுன் பெருமையைப்

புகழ்வதாய் அணைத்தே சொன்னார்! (13)

 

AAyiram naavudai   aadhi  seshan un  perumayai

Pugazhvathai  , anaithe  sonnaar  13

 

Hugging   you , he told that  Adhi sesha ,

With thousand toungues  is praising   you.

 

சனகாதி முனிவரும் பிரம்மாதி தேவரும்

ஈசனும் நாரதர் கலைமகள் சேஷனும் (14)

 

 எமன், குபேரன், திசைக் காவலரும், புலவரும்

 உன் பெருமை தனை சொல்ல முடியுமோ? (15)

 

Sanakaadhi  munivarum , brahmadhi   devarum

EEsanum  , naradar  kalai magal  seshanum  14

 

Yeman  , khuberan  , disai  kavalarum , pulavarum

Un perumai  thanai  cholla  mudiyumo?  15

 

Sages  like Sanaka , Devas  including  Brahma

God Shiva , narada  , , sarswathi  , aadhi sesha

Yama, Khubera , guardians  of directions, poets

Will  they all  be  able  to tell  your greatness .

 

 சுக்ரீவனுக்கு அரசை அளித்திட

ராமனின் நட்பால் உதவிகள் செய்தாய்! (16)

 

Sugreevanukku   arasai  alithida

Ramanin natpaal  udhavikal   cheithai  . 16

 

For giving   kingdom to   Sugreeva

Using   friendship with  Rama, you helped

 

 உன் அறிவுரையை வீடணன் கொண்டதால்

அரியணை அடைந்ததை இவ்வுலகு அறியும்! (17)

 

Un  arivurayai  veedanan  kondathaal

Ariyanai  adainthathai  yivvulaku    ariyum  17

 

Because  Vibheeshana accepted your wisdom,

He attained the throne, this  is known to   all the world

 

 தொலைவினில் ஒளிரும் ஞாயிறைக் கண்டே

சுவைதரும் கனியெனப் பிடித்து விழுங்கினாய்! (18)

 

THolaivinil   olirun  Jnayirai  kande

Suvai  tharum  kaniyena  pidithu   vizhnginai   18

 

Seeing the sun shining  very far off  ,

Thinking it as tastey fruit , you caught  and swallowed it

 

வாயினில் ராமனின் மோதிரம் கவ்வியே
ஆழியைக் கடந்ததில் வியப்பெதும் உண்டோ! (19)

 

Vayilinil  Ramanin  mothiram  Kavviye

Aazhiyai  kadanthathil viyappethum undo? 19

 

Holding the ring  of Rama  in your mouth

Is there  any thing surprising   in your crossing the ocean

 

 உலகினில் முடியாக் காரியம் யாவையும்

 நினதருளாலே முடிந்திடும் எளிதாய்! (20)

 

Ulaginil  mudiyaa  kariyam  yaavayum

Ninathu  arulal  mudinthidum   yelithai   , 20

 

All impossible   things  of the world,

Would be done   due  to your  blessing.

 

 ராமராச்சியத்தின் வாயிற் காவலன்நீ!

நுழைந்திட வியலுமோ நின்னருள் இன்றி! (21)

 

Rama  Rajiyathin  Vayir kavalan  nee

Nuzhainthida  viyalumo ninnarul  indri  21

 

You are  the guard of the gates of Rama’s  kingdom,

Would we be able   to enter it without  your  blessing

 

 உனைச் சரணடைந்தால் இன்பங்கள் நிச்சயம்!

 காவலாய் நீவர ஏதிங்கு எமக்கு அச்சம்! (22)

 

Unai saran adainthaal  inbangal  nichayam

Kaavalaai  nee vara yethingu  yemakku  acham  . 22

 

By surrendering to you , sweet  life is definite

When you are  coming as our guard , why   fear  to us here?

 

 நின்னால் மட்டுமே நின்திறல் அடங்கும்!

 மூவுலகும் அதன் முன்னே நடுங்கும்! (23)

 

Ninnaal  mattume  nin  thiral  adangum

Moovulagamum  athan  munne  nadungum.  23

 

Only by  you, your power  can  be controlled

All the  three  worlds  would  shiver  before that.

 

பூதப் பிசாசுகள் நெருங்கிட வருமோ!

மஹாவீர னுன் திருநாமம் சொல்வாரை! (24)

 

Bhootha  pisachukal  nerumgida  varumo,

Maha veera un  thiru namam  cholvaarai   24

 

Would ghosts and devils  can come  near

Oh great hero, to those  who tell your divine name

 

 நோய்களும் அகலும் துன்பங்கள் விலகும்!

 பலமிகு நின்திரு நாமம் சொல்லிட! (25)

 

Noikalum  agalum , thunbangal  vilakum

Balam  migu nin  thiru namam chollida  25

 

Diseases  would go far  away, sorrow  would part,

When your  powerful divine  name is chanted

 

தொல்லைகள் தொலைந்திட அனுமன் அருள்வான்!

 மனம், வாக்கு, செயலால் தியானிப் பவர்க்கே! (26)

 

Thollaikal  tholainthida Anuman  arulvaan

Manam, vakku cheyalaal  dhyanippavarkke  26

 

Hanuman will bless  that  problems  should vanish

To those  who meditate with  mind, word  and action

 

தவம்புரி பக்தர்க்கு வரங்கள் நல்கிடும்

ராமனின் பணிகளை நீயே செய்தாய்! (27)

 

Thavam  puri  bhakatharukku  varangal  nalkidum

Ramanin  panikalai neeye  cheithai  27

 

The job of giving boons  to devotees  who do penance

Of Lord Rama  , was done  by  yourself only

 

 வேண்டிடும் பக்தர்கள் ஆசைகள் நிறைவுறும்!

 அழியாக் கனியாம் அனுபூதி பெறுவார்! (28)

 

Vendidum  bhaktharkal aasaikal  niraiverum

Azhiyaa  kaniyaam   anubhoothi  peruvar   28

 

The desires  of the devotees  who ask  would be fulfilled

They would get divine benefit  of non destructible   fruit

 

நான்கு யுகங்களும் நின்புகழ் பாடிடும்!

நின்திரு நாமமே உலகினில் சிறந்திடும்! (29)

 

Nangu  yugangalum , nin pugazh  paadidum

Nin thiru namame, ulakinil  chiranthidum  29

 

All   the four ages  of time  would sing about your fame

And your divine name  will become   the best  in the world

 

 ஞானியர் நல்லோரைக் காப்பவன் நீயே!

தீயவை அழிப்பாய்! ராமனின் கனியே! (30)

 

Jnaniyar  naallorai  kaappavan  neeye

Theeyavai  azhippai  , ramanin  kaniye  30

 

You are  the one who protect  the wise and good people

You will destroy evil oh fruit  of Rama

 

 எட்டு ஸித்திகளும் ஒன்பது செல்வங்களும்

கேட்டவர்க்கு அருள்வரம் சீதையுனக் களித்தார்! (31)

 

Ettu   sidhikalum , onpathu   chelvangalum

Kettavarkku  arul varam  , seethai  unakku alithaar  31

 

Sita  gave you the boon of ability   to grant ,

Eight  occult powers and nine type of wealth , to those  who request.

 

 ராம பக்தியின் சாரமே நின்னிடம்!

அவனது சேவகன் நீயே! (32)

 

Rama Bhakthiyin  Saarame  ninnidam,

Avanathu   sevakan neeye  32

 

The  essence of devotion to Rama  is with you,

You are his  only servant

 

 நின்னைப் பற்றியே ராமனை அடைவார்!

தொடர்வரும் பிறவித் துன்பம் துடைப்பார்! (33)

 

Ninnai pathriye  Ramanai  adaivaar

Thodar varum  piravi  thunbam  thudaippar  33

 

Only by catching you, one can attain  Rama

He will wipe away the sorrow  of Karma which follows you

 

வாழ்வின் முடிவினில் ராமனடி சேர்வார்!

ஹரியின் பக்தராய்ப் பெருமைகள் பெறுவார்! (34)

 

Vaazhvin mudivinil  Ramanadi  chervaar

Hariyin bhaktharaai  perumaikal  peruvaar  34

 

At the end of life , they  will reach Rama

By devotion to Hari, they will get honours

 

 மறுதெய்வம் மனதில் நினையா பக்தரும்

அனுமனைத் துதித்தே அனைத்தின்பம் பெறுவார்! (35)

 

Maru  deivam manathil  ninayaa  Bhaktharum

Anumanai   thuthithe  Anaithu  inbam peruvaar35

 

The devotees who do not thinkof any other God in the mind

Would pray  Lord Hanuman and  get  all pleasures

 

 துன்பங்கள் தொலையும் துயரங்கள் தீர்ந்திடும்!

வல்லிய அனுமனை தியானிப் பவர்க்கே! (36)

 

Thunbangal  tholayum , thuyarangal   theernthidun,

Valliya  anumanai dhyanippavakke 36

 

Sorrow will be lost, problems   will  come to an en end

To those who meditate  on the  great  Hanuman

 

 ஆஞ்ச நேயனே! வெற்றி! வெற்றி! வெற்றி!

 விஞ்சிடும் குருவே! எமக்கருள் புரிவாய்! (37)

 

Anjaneyane  , vethri , vethri , Vethri

Vinchidum   guruve    yemakku   arul purivai . 37

 

Hanuman is  only success, success, success

Oh Guru  who excels , please  bless  us

 

 நூறுமுறை இதைத் துதிப்பவர் எவரோ

அவர் தளை நீங்கியே ஆனந்தம் அடைவார்! (38)

 

Nooru murai   ithai  thuthippavar  yevaro,

Avar   thalai neengiye  , aanandam adaivar  38

 

Those who pray    this one hundred times

Their ties  will be broken and they  will  get joy

 

அனுமனின் நாற்பதைப் படிப்பவர் எல்லாம்

சிவனருள் பெற்றே ஸித்திகள் அடைவார்! (39)

 

Anumanin  naarpathai  padippavar  yellam

Shivanarul  pethre sidhikal  adaivar. 39

 

All those who read  this Hanuman forty,

Would get blessings of lord shiva  and achieve  great powers

 

அடியவன் துளஸீ தாஸன் வேண்டுவான்

அனைவர் உள்ளிலும் திருமால் உறையவே! (40)

 

Adiyavan  thulasee  dasan  venduvaan,

Anaivar  ullilum  thirumal  urayave  40

 

The  devote  Thulasi das will request

That lord Vishnu be  in every one’s heart
